EATIN SHRIMP posted:What's the term for chicago rap like Chief Keef? I remember reading something that classified him into some subgenre that had to do with Chicago rap but I can't remember the term "Drill". It's something that critics are sucking immensely at talking about, because it's... unwordy and kinda relentless. The only other acts I'm really seeing talked about as Drill are (well, Young Chop is prob the definitive producer) Katie Got Bandz, whose mixtape I did not like, and King L(ouie), who had a very good single called 'Val venis' and whose mixtape Drilluminati I've only listened to half of but I was really into.

Sasha GoHard is cool when she's not doing love songs and Chella H is OK if not a little corny. This track with the three of them is great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0GJs8s5GQs and that is pretty much everything I know about Drill music.

This is Katie's calling card https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFR8yVn8GSo I think its kind of sweet in a ghetto way. You have to turn it up to hear the beat because yeah, its mixed weird. quote:That spin around when you see her face for the first time xD

They have good to great production but Slug (the rapper part of the duo) is incredibly mediocre, plus Atmosphere fans are the only people I've ever heard unironically talk about real hip-hop. My comment was more about the general consensus of this thread more than a critique on Atmosphere, to each their own.

Most atmosphere fans dont even know the rapper is named Slug and not "atmosphere". I think that says it all. edit: It's weird to listen to a track like "Guns and Cigarettes" in 2012. I think slug could have been as big as eminem if he had chosen that path.

I enjoy the first three albums from Atmosphere, but being a native of the Twin Cities leads to hearing about them every time you mention that you like rap Re:Lil Ugly Mane, seconding MISTA THUG ISOLATION. Also his production on tracks like Underwater Tank is super great too. Listening to LongLiveA$AP, I'm digging it. Some words that are repeated way too much (Testarosa, anyone?) and sometimes it can be boring. Really surprised by Angels for being such a blatant SGP diss track, because I understood they had buried the hatchet. Also, like the Skrillex track because the fundamentals are solid, just wish Skrillex had avoided the dubstep distortion and used synths that were lower in pitch.

I like SGP a lot but as a person he's clearly not much more than a bipolar 21-year old who can't handle hype. In any case the Klan vs. Mob beef is maybe the most boring beef in the history of hip-hop

I still can listen to it non-stop, and I dig BMW. But giving his account on twitter to the Raider Klvn and then coming back and just bleh. What I love about ASAP vs Raider is that's it just kids, most of whom probably aren't tooled up or have fired on someone. In fact, Angels is the first time I can think of where one of them addresses the other.

I'm pretty sure a Black Hippy collaboration album would be much better, and more realistic. Kendrick, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, and Schoolboy or some combination thereof on each track? Yeaaaaah edit: not even trying to be over-dramatic, I just deleted the A$AP Skrillex song because it keeps sneaking up on me when I listen to the album. I thought that list was pretty good and had a decent cross section of what was going on this year in rap. Only notable stuff I saw left off would've been something from Joey Badass (but he said he's got a bias against him so that's understandable). There's a couple random things too that I would've included on a personal list but overall it was definitely solid. And even the tracks I didn't like for the most part it would've been difficult to say they weren't influential or w/e this year. alansmithee fucked around with this message at 14:44 on Dec 21, 2012 |

Nothing overly spectaclular or energetic but if the crowd is digging it, you should too. Except a lot of Section 80 in the first half and some GKMC in the second half. He really seemed genuinely happy to be there. If you get a good crowd you should have a great time. Expect a lot of sing-a-longs for choruses too.

We get so few hip-hop gigs here (Dublin) that the crowd is usually really up for anything that comes along, although that's usually just whatever incarnation of the Wu-Tang comes to Europe.
