It's a shame Lara's voice actress hasn't spent much time in the UK. A fair few American words and phrasings are in her dialogue and I guess she didn't correct them.

There's a lot of Underworld and legend's DNA in this. The designs of the island complexes often are very reminiscent of Kazakhstan from TRL. The general lighting and "look" is very underworld, albeit with slightly more realistic characters - although whoever designed zip managed to sneak his hairstyle onto Reyes, very cunning. I groaned a bit when the Kiwi (who looks like he's meant to be a Maori/pacific islander, and they even loving named him JONAH) went all "WHEN I WAS YOUNG ANCIENT TRIBAL WISDOM ALSO TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS". The characters aren't terrible, but they aren't reaching very far outside the stereotypes here.

Oh my god the combat dialogue gets even better.

"Kill her already! She's just one girl!"

"A girl who's KILLING US ALL :byodood:"

The actors must have been screaming their lines in that booth.

Some of the accents are bugging me. The Scottish fella is shouting stuff about being from Glasgow but has a weird not-quite-Scottish accent and the "Northerner" sounds like an Irish bloke trying to do some weird Scouse/Yorkshire mix.

Tell you what though. I'm way more invested in the story than I thought I'd be. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all pans out.

As an aside it was kind of nice that only 1 demented chud shows up in the underground prison. After the previous Decent scene I was expecting a little bit where a load of insane spindly dudes swarm you like in Aliens. But nope. Just one, you got all prepared to fight a horde with 3 arrows for nothing.

That's not really how voice acting works though. When you take a voice acting gig, you're given the script and told to read it, in the great majority of cases you are not given input into the writing of the script, even if you know for a fact that there are inaccurate phrasings based on the language or accent you are being asked to do.

Look at Civ 5, for example, where the leaders all speak their native (sometimes dead) languages, but the lines were written in english and translated either by an idiot or by a machine, and the voice actors just had to say what was on the card. The guy who voiced Augustus wrote somewhere that he pointed out the phrasing was incorrect and was told to voice the incorrect Latin anyways. Only the guy who voiced Kamehameha managed to get an input into the translation, by making the opportunity to translate his own lines a condition of his being hired.

There is normally a script, but the few times I've observed VA work being done if the actor was a native speaker they would be allowed to correct small things like word usage that the script writer got wrong.

I guess it just depends. In this case, I would imagine she would have been able to effect some change.

So i gave the game another chance and finished it (after 8 hours there are still some stuff to collect but dunno if im going to get them)
By far my favorite part were The ancient lost tombs, those were mostly great and i would love a sequel with a focus on bigger tombs like that.
But there are still alot of stuff thats really annoying you kill so many enemies it gets really stupid really fast, the plot was boring and predictable most of the stuff you do as a player does not make sense at all if you compare to the stuff in the cutscenes (I killed about 20 wolves with a bow and she reacts like she hasnt seen that many, the same with her killing.

Its not a perfect game but its not a bad game at all, they could improve so much in a potential sequel and make it really really good.

Everything changes, Pit.
Even gods.

So what's the multiplayer like in this? A total afterthought? Do singleplayer EXP things carry over to it in some form? I've seen absolutely nothing about this game's multiplayer, and it seems a really weird inclusion in general to a game that'd probably have sold fine without it.

Apparently it's pretty much an afterthought. It's fairly Uncharted-like with some traps, etc. etc.

Fuck you say?
I was watching the Giantbomb quicklook and Lara's friend on the radio goes "Remember when we climbed Snowdon?" and I had to do a double take, because I totally climbed it too!

He reminds her that she said "The key was knowing all you have to do is keep moving" and it's pretty accurate. It just keeps going on and on for ages but drat is it rewarding when you get to the top. Also lots of cheerful little goats at the base of it :3:

Finished it. Ending was... kind of what you expect. The final bow looks like wings when you climb!

Lots to like in the game, lots that could have been done better. Still very much worth the money, I enjoyed it.

Although the troels-folmann-less soundtrack is really pretty forgettable and has nothing on Legend.

When the circle closes on the button prompt (or for a brief period after before the circle shrinks entirely).

Does anyone who's completed the game know if you're free to continue exploring the island afterward?

Yes, despite there being a 'point of no return' loading your save after completing the story allows you to start back at the first camp with every other camp opened up.

Although for this particular one, you need to press F instead.

6 hours in, really enjoying the game. I do feel as if the 'survival' angle was ridiculously oversold and would love to see a mod bringing some of that into greater prominence. I really liked Underworld after having had a complete break from Tomb Raider following TR2, and this really feels like it's morphing into classic Tomb Raider territory, despite the new spin on things. Great stuff!

Anyone getting lots of crashes and artefacting with Nvidia cards? Every time Lara goes through a relatively narrow passage, usually some kind of transition area, i get very obvious blips of artefacting that are gone a brief moment later. And occasionally, just after an auto save point, I get a crash.

Also, using TressFX without an AMD card literally halves your framerate. With everything on high except DOF and SSAO and with TressFX on, I got about 30-50fps on average with my 660ti. Without TressFX I easily got 70-80 fps, and with maxed DOF and SSAO as well I got 60-70fps. No VSync and triple buffering.

e: Just kidding, I can get up to 100 fps with everything maxed but TressFX.

Yea, I feel like a lot of the "survival" elements are missing. Also, killing animals for scrap is a weird mechanic that seems to suggest some sort of hunger management thing was cut out.

I haven't seen the concept art, but I have been reminded of Silent Hill while playing the game. Just a small similarity, mind you, the game is nothing like Silent Hill.

Edit: I hope they make some awesome single-player DLC or extensions for this game.

There was some really wierd pre-concepts for this game early in development; a bunch of different permutations were basically Shadow of the Colossus/Ico. With Lara riding about on horseback, fighting giant monsters with the aid of a small child.

Yeah, I really hope they put some kind of performance patch in and that it's just Tress being weird. It's really odd that a hair effect of all things somehow makes a computer perform worse than Skyrim with ENB on. :stare:

That said, it's a really, ridiculously beautiful game even without the TressFX on. Can't wait to be done with errands so I can get to playing beyond the intro sections tonight. Lara still has it after all these years!
