Zigmidge posted:It's a shame, really. Besides Notability and Stanza it's my most used and recommended app. I bought it back when it was a one time purchase and seem to have been grandfathered into keeping that status despite their announcements stating otherwise back when they released Splashtop 2. Sell your iPad and get a Windows tablet? I'm also grandfathered for poo poo with Splashtop, not that I recall what was grandfathered, Google login maybe? Some other stuff? So maybe that's why I don't notice the IAP. I forgot they added the customizable controls actually.

Anybody know a good app for saving a list of places marked on GPS? I'm traveling around a bunch of places that I want to mark, but want something easier/more organized than just adding bookmarks in Maps.

I went with an idevice because of the sheer size of the userbase - means more support, more tweaks, more people developing apps and new ideas. Those, to me, mean I'll get so much more out of my gadget than what the gadget's specific features can promise.

Really tired of Boxcar just breaking and not being able to get a hold of the company at all for any help. Are there any other decent twitter notification apps available? (I use TweetBot for twitter itself)

What do people like as a (free) TV guide app? I have What's On but it likes to randomly not load anything. I recall TV Guide being pretty feature bloated.

This might not fit your bill, but episodes (https://itunes.apple.com/app/episodes/id415127844?mt=8&ls=1) is really good. Basically you search for and set your shows to your watchlist, and the app gives you a notification (or a list view) of when your shows are airing (plus episode descriptions, channel and air time, and a day counter for upcoming shows).

Silvio Rizzi, the developer of Reeder, just tweeted that the Mac and iPad clients are currently free and will stay that way until he releases v2.0.

At least this way people can still check out the application and get a sense for the kind of work he does.

Well, he's going to build in support for other platforms like Fever (which the iPhone client already has) and Feedbin, so it's not like he's running a doomed business or anything. Google Reader was but one way to use Reeder.

Anyone know of a good iPad app for keeping a journal? Being able to edit/add entries from a Windows desktop would be a great bonus too. I'm currently using LiveJournal, but I'd rather use something designed with the technological advances of this decade in mind.

I did a review of it a few months ago, and it's still my favorite journaling app, by far. Works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Their most recent App Store reviews made mention of it as well, and I checked the official Tweetbot twitter account and the devs posted that it was a known issue (though not for everyone, I guess) and they were working on a fix. I figured it couldn't be too widespread of a problem because as many people in this thread use Tweetbot I know it would have been mentioned by now. edit: The "click here to test push notifications" button in the settings menu works, oddly enough. I just can't get actual mentions to alert me.

For any UK folks who have been waiting for the Dark Sky app to arrive over here, the developers have just launched forecast.io. It's a browser-based weather app that works pretty well on iOS. They specialise in short term forecasts (apparently very useful for making 'should I wait for this rain to stop?' kinda decisions) that, depending on how accurate the data turns out to be, could be really great for our unpredictable weather. Oh, and the launch email also ended with 'P.S. By the way, we still plan on adding support for the UK and Ireland to Dark Sky for iPhone & iPad. Probably only a few weeks away, but don't wait… use Forecast! (please)'.

I was excited about Dark Sky until I remembered that if it's raining around where I live, it's probably just going to be raining all day/week/month so just put on your rain coat and deal with it.

Wow, I've never seen any web app as polished as this. For the first time I actually buy Apple's original position of "you don't need native apps just develop web pages that play nice with iOS". (I'm still happy we got apps)

My biggest gripe about all weather apps is I can't throw it into the notification pulldown. I like to be able to quickly pull down to see what the temperature is/weather is like from within say Safari.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an app that lets you track movies/tv shows you've watched? I suppose I could use evernote or whatever but it would be handy just having a searchable list of movies where I could give them a rating how much I liked them and some notes etc.
|
# ? Apr 3, 2013 06:25 |

Springpad has an iOS app and can do pretty much that; searchable list of movies/TV shows (and books), with rating system and notes. It has some extra stuff (very similar to Evernote in that regard), but the interface is clean enough that you can ignore the stuff you don't want, and it's free.
