Oh man, Guest Stars. So many different options, so many people's lives I can complicate. :getin:

Anyways, some thoughts on possible Guest Stars. I'm pretty sure I want to Guest Star in Maynard Song's Volume Three, just have him and his crew pop in to find Aidan going "WHAT DOES HASTUR LOOK LIKE" on some poor soul. At least that's the idea I have at the moment. I don't quite have any other ideas for guest starring in other's volumes though, other than "show up, blow poo poo up, get out."

And that's about where my thoughts end. I am not good at guest starring.

There's an obvious tie-in between Maria and Murasaki's OVAs and killing a whole bunch of CoC mooks fits nicely with Anna's OVA style.

Corporate sabotage. Not Maria's favorite in the list of dirty work the company makes her do. Sure it involves breaking things, but who has time to sneak around to do that when Cthonians out there need an RPG in the face? Well, Hakurei thought that she did, since they tossed her all the way towards to a war zone to mess around with Duvalle. Something about a disgruntled contractor as well? Yeah.

She came in late in Storms' crusade against Duvalle, but at least she came in as well with heavy ordinance from Hakurei Industries. When Maria located the marine, a gang of lizardmen pinned down his weary, sorry rear end in middle of a shanytown. He ignited half the place to slow them down, she tore apart the other half to help him out. (Don't worry, the lizardmen scared off all the inhabitants earlier.) Turned out Duvalle was up to some sick occult poo poo, so Hakurei offered to pay Storms almost twice his lapsed for what he knew.

That was rad and all, but they still needed to stop Duvalle operations on this side of the world. Maria wanted this poo poo done quickly, so she opted for the biggest and most important facility in the enemy compound. Storms drew fire and distracted the lizardmen and their lizard tanks, while Maria snuck in and drew a ritual circle in the facility's control room.

If it took a really long time to complete, it's because she made the circle out of C4, gunpowder, dynamite caps, five boxes of shell casings and a 20th century bunker buster (it just stood there). She leaned on her eldritch "companion" for help on this, and the Beast really wanted her to work for those sick explosions. At least Storms kept them busy for long enough!

"Okay, remember." She said later on as the facility imploded behind them. "Cool guys and girls drive away from explosions."

"Do I gotta be one at the back of the bike?"

"Yes!"

OVA: You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!

Invokes: make good use of explosions, jury-rig solutions to difficult problems, find the important parts of something, blow the bloody doors off

All right, well in the interests of keeping things moving along I'm going to go ahead and just do my second guest spot and if it needs to change and/or TurninTrix doesn't want me there I can go back and change it.

Guest Starring in: Akuryou Taisan, Akuryou Taisan!

Following the trade expo in Tokyo (and what a disaster that had turned out to be, though she had gotten to try out quite a few new guns over the course of the day so it hadn't been a total loss) Juliana remained in the city, waiting for the call that would return her to Dubai and the job she'd left behind.

Waiting. And waiting. And waiting...

***

Juliana jerked awake, gasping (and how stupid was that? Still no lungs.) as the afterimages of the dream she'd been having took their sweet time fading away...fire slowly consuming her body inch by inch until nothing remained, the sort of dream she'd been having since Dubai...and looked around for a few moments until her sleep-fogged mind remembered that the insistent ringing of an incoming call was coming from inside her own head.

She irritably accepted it, watching as a face appeared in her heads-up display's caller ID...Yoshiro Sakamoto, Senior Vice-President of AEI Tokyo. He'd introduced himself the day she'd arrived for her checkup. What on earth was he doing calling her at this hour?

"Miss Morgan, I apologize for the lateness of the call. Did I wake you?"

"You did," she said, a bit more peevishly than she'd intended. "Just because I'm a brain in a bloody jar now doesn't mean I don't need to sleep anymore, you know."

"I see." He cleared his throat, pausing awkwardly for a moment before going on. "Miss Morgan, there's an emerging situation that we believe requires your attention."

She frowned...he was being unusually evasive for someone who'd just woken her up at, what time was it? At 2:00 in the morning. "Emerging situation? What sort of emerging situation? Oh god, don't tell me those bastards came back-"

"It's not in Dubai," Sakamoto interjected. "It's here in Tokyo. A Hakurei Industries R&D facility has come under attack-"

"Wait, now hang on." It was her turn to interrupt. "Hakurei? They're some sort of occult defense contractor, wards and counterspells and the like. What does any of this have to do with us? With me?"

He cleared his throat again. "AEI has made...certain arrangements with Hakurei which necessitate our intervention at this time." Well if that wasn't a complete non-answer. "As the senior-most AEI security specialist currently within the city, along with your experience dealing with...situations of this nature, we feel that you're our best chance of resolving this matter successfully. And since you're currently on 'special detached duty,' this clears you to pursue operations such as this at AEI's discretion."

That had her intrigued, though. "What do you mean 'situations of this nature?'"

"Reports are unconfirmed, but the attack on the Hakurei facility is similar in nature to the attack on AEI headquarters. It could be the same group that attacked us..."

Juliana sat there for a long, thoughtful moment before finally reaching a decision. "Well I'll need to come in and pick up a few things, all I've got with me is a handgun."

Sakamoto's face visibly relaxed. "Oh, don't worry about that. Time is a factor, so we've already had a car sent to your address. You'll find all you should need in the trunk. Now, your primary objective is the safety of a Hakurei researcher..."

***

"Sakamoto," Juliana said as she looked down at the contents in the trunk of the black company car that had been left outside her hotel with the motor running. "Why is there a missile launcher in the boot?"

"As I said Miss Morgan, you should have everything that you need. Good luck." The call ended.

***

The car swerved as automatic fire blew through the windshield, spraying her with glass while she hit the accelerator, scattering the gunmen with a return volley from her submachine gun before crashing through the gate leading into the facility. "'Reports are unconfirmed' my arse! This isn't those bastards from Dubai, this is the bloody Green Fury!" More return fire panged against the car as she whipped it around a corner, vision flicking through multiple spectra...only to discover that was completely unnecessary as the enormous mass of tentacles occupying half the testing facility was a bit of a dead giveaway where the action was. "Bloody hell...and you only packed me a missile launcher? Sakamoto, you cock..."

Over the sounds of gunfire and monstrous roaring she could hear something else, something that was coming closer...

"Is that a motorbike?"

It was, and sitting on the back of it, unless her eyes very much deceived her, was the researcher she'd been tasked to protect. The girl on the bike didn't look like part of the Green Fury, especially given how they were all trying to shoot her, and so she made a snap decision, loosing a long burst of covering fire through the shattered windshield. Sakamoto had told her to safeguard the researcher, and right now he looked fairly well safe to her. Though the way the beast with the tentacles had its, well, whatever passed for eyes on the escaping duo, there was no guarantee he was going to stay that way for long.

The bike swerved by her as cultists scattered to cover, their return fire aimed at Juliana now instead of the cyclist, which suited her just fine. Dashing from the car, she emptied her magazine downrange as she took cover behind the trunk to reload. The ground started to tremble underneath her with the heavy footfalls of something's approach...not the mass of tentacles, this was something else.

The front of the car exploded into shrapnel as the hijacked power suit rounded the corner, opening fire with its heavy machine gun. She ducked back into cover, throwing the trunk open and fishing out the contents while high-caliber bullets continued to reduce the car to confetti around her, popping back up only once the gunfire had ceased with the missile launcher braced on her shoulder. "Right then, first things first..."

The machine gun swung towards her, and she pulled the trigger.

OK!

Shiro's Part 3 Part 1: Spellsword Sellsword

As beautiful as that corkboard with all the pictures pinned together with little strings is, it can’t keep you fed. Or in good working condition. Or under a roof with the lights on.

Shiro found herself hungry with a squeaky knee and about to get kicked out of the one room shack (that someone dared call an apartment on the lease) a couple months into her revenge retreat. She could have gone back home and asked for help, but that would be admitting defeat.

So she started looking for a job. It was surprisingly easy to get an interview at Hakurei for one of their “Troubleshooter” positions, apparently the job had a lot of turnover because it was difficult and had terrible hours (and something about most people resigning posthumously.) But the pay was great and she wanted to keep in good practice for when she finally found her enemy.

Her first field mission was a trip to The Beach. Now, most of Florida is made of beaches, but there is only one The Beach, a fifty foot long strip of sand where a magical disaster or weapon of some kind twisted the local space&time into a pretzel. It was actually about a mile long on the inside, and entering it without magical protections meant you either aged into dust instantly or reverted to a zygote.

It was the absolute favorite hangout for a number of outside-time-and-space beings and of course magicians who wanted a private beach to go swimming without having to deal with the crowds. There was an orange plastic fence around the outside, and that usually kept the tourists from trying anything too suicidal.

Usually.

Hakurei got the call that someone had been tampering with the fence, repeatedly, over the last week. Three people were dead, and it wasn’t stopping. Nothing was showing up on the cameras, of course. Shiro and her new coworkers had a mystery to solve.

Guest-Starring in: Black-Cat Strut

Post-Dubai was a long, annoying exercise in crossing borders under false identities and learning which parts of the NEG do not have extradition treaties with each other. Chi-town seemed as good a place as any to set up shop in the security industry once again. Storms hadn't even had time to make his office glamorously lovely (just cube walls and a concrete floor with a drain in the middle) when she walked in the door. As a Floridian, Storms should have read the warning signs; stereotypes exist for a reason, but her bright pink hair indicated either low self esteem and/or craziness. Either way, she instantly had his attention. Something something, help her make sure some kid is okay while playing supernatural hide & seek in the industrial district? Make sure she gets this cheap carnival jewelry? Fine, whatever.

His car broke down 5 blocks from the address, as he got out, the first of the gunshots began to ring through the neighborhood. Storms, proving he was one of the elite class of idiots that runs TOWARD gunfire, managed to bust through a window and follow the trail of corpses. It was pretty impressive, more so when he stuck his opticam around the corner and saw this pre-teen kid clearing house. Unfortunately, a half second after the second to last rear end in a top hat hit the ground, the kid and some jackass in a bloody snuggie were having a one way heart-to-heart conversation. Due to the freedom-hating communists running the city, proper autoweapons are hard to come by in Chicago, so Storms grabbed what he could, which happened to be a sacrificial dagger lying next to one of the stiffs cooling on the ground. It was surprisingly well balanced for some mall-katana stampforged Klingon bullshit.

Taking a moment to enjoy the spastic, terminal twitching as the dude tried to pull a hurled 8 inch blade out of his neck, Storms leaned over the kid's body. It was pretty depressing, just a tiny black haired mound of daddy issues lying there with a giant canyon through her chest. Worst of all, he probably wouldn't even get paid with her in this condition. However at this point the doodad he was told to hand off began to glow and thrum. gently caress. Probably some kind of bomb or tracking device. Storms dropped it next to the girl and began backing out the way he came, but noticed her corpse begin to twitch, and the blood oozing out of her body actually reverse direction. Not only that, it was sucking the body fluids from every other stiff in the room toward her. Normally this would be the signal to level the entire building and get the hell out of dodge but after a few moments, the hole in her chest actually began to close. Welp. As long as he got her to a hospital before she turned into a tentacle critter or something, payday was still a go. Draping the kid over his shoulder, he carried her out the door where Ms. Pink was waiting in some Eurotrash supercar that cost more that he had made over the past decade.

This is where Storms should have engaged in some kind of witty, suggestive banter with the dame but all he could manage was "Ugggh" as he flipped the girl into the backseat. Taking his credit stick in payment, he handed Ms. Pink a bunch of rfid business cards; "Sunshine Security: The Silver Lining on your Personal Tragedy." He stuck one under the band of the opal doodadd too. Who knows, helping bringing back someone from the dead is probably the start of a good client relationship.

Aspect: Janitor of the Human Soul

Invoke: Listen (or pretend to listen) to someone's sob story. Do the right thing when not getting paid. Trying to save a life. Avoiding killing everyone in the area. Totally sick-awesome knife/axe/ninja star/etc throwing moves.

Compel:
Refuse to back out of obviously bad situations, Put business ahead of common sense, Do what the attractive lady says due to being a spineless, goony rear end in a top hat.

Okay, so here's how the Miami (or whatever) crew stands:

Juliana and Espinoza have guest-starred in two other stories apiece. They are done guest-starring.

Maria has guest-starred in one story (Espinoza's) and is tentatively going to be guest-starring in Murasaki's. If she does then she's done guest-starring too.

Murasaki hasn't guest-starred in anybody's yet, but mistaya said he's thinking about guest-starring in Juliana's which I'm still down with.

Anna hasn't guest-starred in anybody's stories yet, and neither has Ando.

OPEN VOLUME 3 GUEST-SPOTS LEFT TO FILL:

Juliana 1 (tentatively filled by mistaya/Murasaki)
Espinoza 1
Murasaki 2 (one tentatively filled by TurninTrix/Maria)
Maria 1
Anna 1
Ando 2

I'd say the best way is to just sort of find a spot and force your way in. Like, sometimes with stuff like this you just have to creatively edit an opening for your character to get involved at some point. Maybe it has something to do with the mysterious pink-haired lady! Maybe the cultists that Anna shot the everloving poo poo out of come looking for her while she's recuperating from being dead. Or maybe your paths simply cross for a brief, fleeting moment that results in a bunch of property damage and a whole lot of dead mooks.

Like, I guest-starred in Ando's Volume 3 and saved him from getting lasered, but that doesn't mean "and that was the end of the story." Kirisame Optical probably isn't going to be taking that lying down, and where there's one goon squad there's five or six more, plus an entire military and security trade show going on.

Okay, some slightly expanded Akathar backstory (I might put this in the OP if you want):

The Yith made the Akathar a millenia or twenty ago and buried them deep in the Great Sandy Desert, either in or near Pnakotus. They were empty backup bodies in case of emergency, and a bunch of Yith activated them in the 2050s to escape some unknown catastrophe. The original group (nicknamed the Thetans by humans, not usually to their face though) decided to make themselves known to the NEG and ask for somewhere to live in exchange for some tech, so the NEG took them in. Luckily it turns out when you are an alien with a genius intellect in the body of a space drow it is really easy to get a job.

That was a few generations ago, so the Akathar most people know are their children. They've been raised in human communities and had to deal with having reclusive aliens in the family and not much culture of their own, but they're working something out. I haven't had to define it all yet so I haven't, you are free to make something up as long as it's better than CTech's vaguely racist bullshit. Akathar can be found all over the world but a lot of the Thetans stayed in Australia because :effort: so Darwin and Perth have large Akathar populations now. (The Arcane Underground in Perth is a great place to get your hands on alien technology.)

The Thetans themselves don't get out much, instead they keep to themselves or work high-level but behind-the-scenes jobs for governments and megacorps. A lot of them moved to Mars, which annoys the NEG because they don't like the idea of losing their technological edge over those Martian jerks. Some of them work on piecing together the Yithian knowledge they lost or left behind but they are more likely to move away from Earth and leave their children to have fun with the humans than risk derailing future history by helping Earth advance science a few centuries. They are basically D&D wizards but with penthouses.

This is intentionally flexible, you can make up some stuff about Akathar and their presence in Miami/Shanghai all you want.

I suppose Maria needs a jetski function for her bike.

Your bike is possessed by some eldritch spirit/demon thing. You think a little something like the ocean is going to stop you from driving to Cuba?

I POSSESS QUESTIONABLE TASTE IN TOUHOU GAMES
Work's been hell, sorry for not keeping up. I'll pay Espinoza back and guest star in Maria's, and Shiro can take the second Black Cat Strut spot.

E: When on doubt, do a prologue. Like Anna went to get kitted out from Ando, or wrecked a shipment or the CoC fucks had commandeered a warehouse what was important to ExoCute.

Moriyuki Ando guest stars in...
Afrikanized Killer Water

"Oh hello sir! I was hoping I would catch you here. Ah, no, sir's ammunition has been depleted for some time now, so there's no point pulling that trigger. My name is Moriyuki Ando, I represent ExoCute technologies... yes, that's the one. Please, take my card...

Yes, those are indeed my contact details on the side of a .357 revolver. I find it eminently more useful than a scrap of... ah, I see sir has discovered that that one is empty too. Your spirited and frequent trigger pulling, however, is a testament to sir's resolve.

If you would allow me, I was in the area and I heard of your contractual difficulties. As it happens, I have a few of my own... Oh yes, sir should feel free to make himself comfortable on the floor there. Sir has sustained some impressive wounds, if I say so myself. That's quite a lot of blood there, but I am sure sir's vigorous constitution will be able to handle it. Anyway, we are both at odds with Duvalle over certain breaches of contract. I suggest a temporary alliance...

...Indeed sir. If you will bear with me one moment I may be in a position to render unto sir some medical assistance, but it is important that we settle things formally. Now, I am neither as resourceful nor as skilled as sir in the practice of being shot at. Or through. I do, however, have some modest connections to the gun trade and I cannot help but have noticed sir's temporary deficiency in the matter of weapons and ammunition, through certainly no fault of sir's. Contract disputes are a matter that sit quite personally with me, and I am willing to assist sir in an ongoing capacity, at a competitive rate far below market value. Anyway, what I propose is...

...Ah, sir is most correct. Haste is of the essence, and I believe I hear the Lizardman hosts calling to each other as we speak. I took the liberty of preparing some small documentation to commemorate the occasion. The details are trifling, I will be sure to appraise you of them at a later time. If you could just...smear a bloody handprint there, yes, that will be sufficient. As sir has taken this opportunity within our Special Bonus Period, I am able to offer a few sign-on bonuses above and beyond what I offer my regular clients. The first is this handy ExoCute Tote Bag, containing a few modest medical supplies. Sir may find the included synthetic adrenaline of particular use in the next few minutes, unless he was planning on allowing his heart to stop. The second is this little experimental rifle I have here, it is a privilege to gift it to sir before we allow them to the general public. It's chambered in a vintage little caliber, .577 Tyrannosaur. While our competitors have been exploring certain magical and arcanotechnological means in combating otherworldly hosts, we at ExoCute are leveraging the solution of larger bullets. It may pop up some trifling AR notifications asking you to evaluate its performance, it would be most helpful if you could fill out said forms and keep us appraised of how the weapon works out for you. Sir may want to relocate his shoulder before firing the weapon first time, I am informed it has something of a kick.

In any case, sir will find his first shipment of small arms and a few larger explosives in the crates behind me. Sir should feel free to ignore the markings indicating them as property of Duvalle Laboratories. As I said, a small contract dispute. I was in the area.

Now, I believe I hear the eldritch hordes kicking at the door, it's best I get out of sir's way. All the best with the new supplies, please fill out the attached feedback forms at your earliest convenience. I'll be in touch to work out a payment plan later down the road...

Ah, sir does the weapon a disservice. It is actually salmon in colour. Good day, sir."

Aspect: Lord of War

Invoke: To appear at the right time; "Ah, he's a valued client of mine..."; to have the right tool for the job; "Any colour you like..."
Compel: To disappear when needed most; "...and now he's shooting at us"; to have an experiment backfire; "...so long as it's pink."
