More Turtle casting news

Deadline posted:

He’s not playing a turtle in Paramount’s reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles but William Fichtner is on board for the movie. Details on the actor’s role are sketchy but Fichtner is said to be playing a lead with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology.

The confusion came from the last link with Megan Fox pictures since it doesn't mention him on the cast list, plus his absence on the photo with the mocap suits.

The Turtles look like they're being arrested in those photos, so of course Raph evades capture to break them out.

Also, Fichtner has the face to be great mo-cap for Splinter, though his voice doesn't strike me as a great fit for either Splinter or Shredder (and who else can be described as "a lead with iconic stature in Turtles mythology"?). He's probably Splinter.

content: I keep seeing people cry about childhood-ruining on Twitter because Megan Fox is playing April. Am I the only one who actually likes Megan Fox as more than eye-candy? She was funny /good in This Is 40, and though this one will be more contentious, Jennifer's Body as well.

If you let the people tweeting about childhood-ruining do the casting, they would probably cast April O'neil the porn star.

TMNT was a satire of all the stupid crazes in late 80s/early 90s comics (orientalism re: ninjitsu, anthropomorphic animals, teen drama) whose satire was lost on the children of America and in turn became an unironic franchise about turtles who were indeed ninjas, mutants, and teenagers.

This is a franchise that cannot be ruined because there is nothing sincere to ruin. If ~real 90s kids~ are mad that Megan Fox is playing April O'Neil then their opinion is worth less than nothing.

It was a huge rib on Frank Miller's Daredevil. Where they were created at the same time as Matt Murdoch was blinded and stick = splinter, Hand = Foot.

It wasn't really a rib, but it was basically an homage to that run as well as other things they liked. I don't really think it was satirical because it respected everything it borrowed from.

Yeah those comics are great, they are a great exemples of comics as a conduit for the ideas rambling around the artists's heads.

So yeah, Robert Redford spoiled a pretty major plot point for his role in Cap 2. In an interview he stated he took the role because it was something new, a villain role. We knew he is playing Alexander Pierce, Fury's boss in the movie. Looks like he might be the big bad.

Still unclear if Pierce is just himself, or someone acting as Pierce like Red Skull, since he's known to do that type of thing.

But that totally wasn't my fault. You shouldn't even be able to put the car in gear with the bar open.

Man, Fichtner is great. I loved him in that one-season tv show Invasion, where his character spends pretty much the entire show flipping off the idea of a good/evil dichotomy by being creepy as gently caress, yet reliable.

If you haven't seen it, see if you can hunt it down, people.

It's got that guy from Breaker High. No, not Ryan Gosling, the other one.

The blu-ray of that terrible Christmas Carol film Robert Zemeckis did has a picture-in-picture feature where they show the entire film in behind-the-scenes mocap actors footage, and yeah it's pretty neat and something I'd love to see more.

It looks more 60s than First Class was. I felt First Class kind of dropped the ball in making the film feel like it was set in the 60s, its a real shame and I hope they do it better in Days of Future Past. It'd make the different time periods in that film better contrasted, too.

Oh poo poo, I hope that my Redford as Strucker prediction is right. I find the Marvel films pretty boring, but I'm all aboard if this is leading up to a film in which SHIELD turns out to be controlled by HYDRA, Fury has to go underground, and the Avengers have to take on SHIELD.
