Wow someone was really offended about my opinion that children should not be nearly naked in a classroom! Yes, goons are literally arguing that children should be able to go naked in classrooms and I am the one that gets a hosed up custom title! I guess the notion that underwear is not appropriate school dress belongs back in 17th century England! Goons really are a progressive sort...

For the record, I don't think young boys should be able to wear tight underwear uncovered in school either... the title is funny but totally inaccurate.

Speaking of BRCA1/2, this fellow is Robert Nussbaum and he started the Sharing Clinical Reports Project. You see Myriad Genetics, Inc. has a patent on both BRCA1 and 2, so no one else is allowed to perform research, diagnosis or treatment related to those two genes. However there is a loophole, Myriad must return the patients gene sequence along with their interpretation of that sequence to the requesting hospital or clinic; so the SCRP asks institutions to give them all the data they've received so they can try to reverse engineer what Myriad is looking for and how they interpret results without running afoul of the patents.
Yeah, I think that here they "know" who has the gene because of the gene bank we got going on and so they don't need to check for it, honestly, while I think this sorta science needs to be supported through some manner of monetary compensation, the patent system, especially the yank one, just seems to be mindblowingly retarded. Eh, maybe coming from a country where monetizing healthcare is the devil makes ya think of it in a different way but the fact that people have to go through hoops to help people find out if they might have the gene is just sickening to me.

Clegg had some brief appeal in the debates stage based on being an alternative on the (social) left to Labour, which was absolutely foundering by the end, but that didn't actually translate into votes on election day. When it became clear that the only realistic government would be a Lib-Con coalition, there was some outrage on the left (although the required rainbow coalition to keep Labour in power was a practical impossibility), but maybe a little optimism that things couldn't get much worse, and Clegg could be a moderating influence on the Tories.

Ha loving ha.
Ahhh, well in comparison our Tories just suffered their second greatest defeat in recent memory, sadly our leftist parties had the greatest defeat in Icelandic political history, possibly European history, I forget if it was that bad.
The real winner was the, hah, "Progressive" party, a right-wing agrarian party that people picked as an alternative to both to our Tories and our, well, they're not as bad as Labour but still, roughly Labour neo-liberalism.
And so we're left with a coming government whos first message, before even forming government is: "Woah, it looks like our promises are idiotic and the state is doing way worse than we thought!". Despite them discovering nothing new. Ah well.

Legos being about "realism" isn't so much the problem as that is literally a childrens product normalizing sexism. Hong Kong never had an army, for obvious reasons. Although during the British days, there was a Hong Kong garrison in which locals were allowed to serve. Nowadays, Hong Kongers are completely forbidden from serving in the People's Liberation Army. As such, the Hong Kong Police Force (formerly Royal Hong Kong Police Force) serves as the closest thing, and has some units that are really the same as military units, including snipers in the SDU or Special Duties Unit, "The Flying Tigers."

So check out these recruitment videos. This first one is from the 1970s:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prRfjzSZqNA
Most of the dialog is in Cantonese, but you can hear the British officers giving orders in English.

Now check out these newer ones:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvBKOjn8WWQ
You can hear them mixing Cantonese and English orders on their radios, left over from the British days. Police here still use tons of English vocabulary, even in an official capacity (it is still an official language of the SAR).

Melancholia is about how people who suffer from depression are constantly told by the people around them to just deal with it as though mental illness is something you can bootstrap your way out of. Everyone around Justine interacts with her as though their rational behavior will snap her out of depression. Later, when everyone around Justine is put in a position of intractable hopelessness, they are less capable of dealing with it than she is and, unsurprisingly, rationality does not help them.
