I can't stop wrecking cars what's wrong with me

I made a workshop at the church. Will it auto-repair broken weapons? Will it repair weapons in my inventory? It might not even matter. I'm thinkin' of ditching the church asap. Too small. None of my guys are dead yet aside from the sickie who got capped, but Maya barely survived the Wilkinson Bros. mission. I ended up luring the fat guy toward me, running outside, grabbing my station wagon, and flattening him. Maya survived with, like, one hit left.

Cars are by far the most effective weapon in the game to be honest, it's almost never not the best option to just run back to your big rear end Zombie Crusher and go hog wild

Some guy wanted me to create a distraction so some other guy could escape, and I did donuts in a cornfield with a Trans Am all blaring the horn and plowing over zombies like road cones.

This game is cool.

Man ok this game is loving great, I can totally look past the slightly crappy graphics and the bugginess of it because its just so drat fun. I decided to move my survivors to a farm pretty much in the centre of the map, seems like a good place to hunker down. Heavy melee is also the way to go, holy crap it's fun to bodyslam a zed then smash his head in like a melon with a huge sledgehammer.

I thought it was funny how in the vet clinic mission they freak out about cars when they're really the most effective way to travel.

Alerting a horde invariably becomes a mad dash over fences and roads to find a car, any car before they tear you apart. Then in a car it's trivial.

I do really like how even with no stamina you can time the ducking and weaving just right to still dodge as they chase you, it turns into a half-stumble half-desperate heave forward with them grabbing at the air above your head, very cinematic. The animations on the whole are just really really good.

One question - It mentions in the op that outposts need to be maintained? I haven't seen anything in game like this. All I know of outposts is it costs influence to set one up, then you can use it as a safe zone with a locker and traps.

Is there anything I'm missing to it? Wondering if I can just set up a lot of them at once.

The game keeps telling me to move my base into the middle of the towns, which seems like a horrible idea. Is there one more into the countryside that's available?

I need to put a disclaimer in the OP. A lot of that is stuff from PAX East and may be out of date or misunderstood. I'm working on getting everything fixed up, but it's taking time.

But, I had my people use some supplies to repair the walls last night, so it seems like a thing.

EDIT: \/\/\/\/ No worries. No offense was taken. Thanks! :)

Yeah I thought that would be the case. It wasn't a dig at your op at all, it's really good, just little things like that can be a bit vague from previews that's all.

There's a farm almost in the middle of the map, the base is call McReady's Farmhouse. It's surrounded by fields and has quite a lot of space.

The only good thing to come out of not using a car to leave is a zombie nest on the way there just got torn apart by the crew with me, rendering the area safer.

Ed died. :smith: Dude went out on a scavenger run while I was helping out some other survivors. Radio lady tells me his situation is dire and sure enough it was. Got there right as three different hordes descended upon him along with two ferals. I did everything I could to save him but it was too little too late. His dying breath was "A little closer.....little closer....there!" followed by an explosion. Dude went out with a bang. :black101:

Mine was far less cinematic. I had him on a scavenger run as well. But apparently just out of sight but still within the draw distance he ran through a middle of the horde and got mauled. I heard him crying for help and only just found him in time for him to light a molotov to kill himself and the horde.

So i am constantly getting messages that i need to go checkout something on the other side of the map, are these missions time based? Because the whole stressed for time is really starting to get to me off.

Also if i call a survivor to come help scavange a location. Do i need to wait around for him to show up?

No, they can handle it on their own usually but occasionally you'll get told they need a rescue. It's a little slower if they do it alone as well.

Has anyone had a randomly generated character that wasn't caucasian yet?

Game's awesome. I'm enjoying the scavenging bit but I'm really worried about supplies, primarily material supplies. My demand is already -14/day but I don't know why, where it's going, or what I can do to curb that. That means to break even or turn profit I have to do two dedicated material runs a day at least, and it seems to be one of the hardest caches to find. Anyone know if caches regenerate after so long? I get the feeling I'm going to run out of material long before I can find good supplies for it.

Also, morale is miserable and they keep complaining there are infections around despite the fact that we've moved to a separate town that has NO infections. The old ones still give them PTSD I guess...

Kind of neat that you can spot special zombies from towers. I saw a "Bloater," two "SWAT Zombies," and a few Ferals from a tower. Haven't fought anything but the Big Bastard and Ferals though, so I'm worried about the other two I haven't encountered yet. Oh well, c'est la vie in a world infested with zombies.

Also, I haven't lost a single person yet by my own hands. We've had a few people go missing and I told Alan to gently caress right off but I've never had the person I'm controlling get killed. Not to say I haven't been trying. :(

Oh gawd, I wish they'd use the car in the parking space when they go on supply runs. I'm more than happy to pick up random cars if they took the truck on runs.

I think I might have figured out Outposts. Instead of looting everything, discover the Resources and plonk down an Outpost, you'll get a slow trickle of whatever supply it was. So you have a small ecomony instead of running around all the time.
I think....

Also if you want a buddy with you for stuff, I just wait until you get those Fear/Angry/Sad missions with your friends. The mission is just go to this place and kill zombies but they stick around with you until you return to base.

Here's a tip: You have a maximum limit on how much influence you can store every 24 hours. The limit goes up when your fame goes up (I've noticed the journal says fame goes up when I level a skill) but beyond that, you should spend what you've got. Spend it on outposts and scavenger runners. Better yet, make a point to escort the scavenger runners when they get where they are so you can get friendship points with them and earn the ability to control them. It all feeds into each other.

There's a scripted event where Pastor Will gets the Black Fever and Alan kills him, but it's not a required scripted event--it's possible for any of the characters involved to get sick and die via the normal illness system, or get killed when zombies storm the base or whatever.

Really glad to hear most people are liking the game!

Show us what you got, what you got
I was clearing an infestation, but got outnumbered quickly and was with a guy who apparently had the stamina of my grandma. I booked it with a horde chasing me, no cars around, and got up a survey tower where luckily they couldn't reach me. I swapped over to another survivor at base and then drove out to see if I could "rescue" myself, but the dude wasn't in the tower where I left him. I checked the character sheet and it said he was "away from home" and I swapped to him and got the "Returning Home" loading screen and he loaded up right at the church.

Apparently if you have a dude in trouble, get to a safe spot and swap out for someone else, they'll make it home just fine.

Fake edit: I also found people will take guns out of the stash on their own, might be for the "defend the base" missions though. You fuckers better not touch my fancy SMG. :argh:

((gently caress accidentally closed my browser and lost all this once.))

Well, on a binge I finished the game. Thanks to the camera I missed the dramatic reveal at the end so I have no clue what the gently caress everyone was talking about in the last cutscene. :v:

So! Freaks, I've a few notes on them for folks if you like.

Ferals: These assholes are dangerous on your own. They do a lot of damage and love to knock you down repeatedly. They are, however not much tougher than regular zombies. A shot to the head will kill them immediately and they're capable of being knocked over for a finisher with a few heavy attacks.

Screamer: Basically the scrapped left4dead special. Basically screams to attract other zombies which also stuns you if you're close. A silenced bullet to it's head works well considering it's slow and has a fat head. If you can't, it's possible to rush up to it and shove to interrupt it's scream.

SWAT/Army zombies: Basically immune to bullets. Just bash their head in, no more powerful than regular zombies, honestly.

Bloater: The #1 reason for bailing your ride into a ditch or a nearby river. These dicks are basically kamikazes that explode into acid clouds that drain your stamina and health quickly. If you hit one with your car, it'll coat the vehicle and drain you while you're driving for a while. A shot to the gut instead of the head kills them safely

Big bastard: These are basically the closest thing to a boss zombie there is. Takes a lot of damage and multiple shots to the swaying head to kill. Best to keep your distance and unload your guns and any firebombs at it's face.Try to stay away from melee as it's grab attack is hugely damaging. If it grabs an ally, Rush in and begin swinging to make it drop your buddy. If you're lucky enough to have them on the open road, cars will knock them down, and a fast or heavy enough vehicle will kill them if you slam the gas and hit them again before they get up.
