Thank you for sharing this. Your dog is so lucky to have found you. My boyfriend isn't a dog person but has fallen in love with our two dogs. He has a soft spot for our Chihuahua, Riley. She is a rescue too, but I doubt her history is anywhere near as sad as your dog's. She was close to being put down; she came from a large city shelter in California.

Here is a photo of them snuggling:

She doesn't snuggle much with him, at least when I'm home :)

I work in a factory. There's a lot of robot lines, automated vehicles, manned vehicles, and people walking around working. I was on my way to my toolbox to grab some zip ties when I saw this little guy pecking around the automated pickup point on one of the assembly lines.

A little sparrow was just hopping around, pecking around at bits of stuff on the ground. I noticed he wasn't moving with the same sort of vigor as most sparrows do, and he looked a bit fluffier than normal. So he might have been hurt, or came from a nest in the rafters of the building. In the picture he's pecking around in an automated traffic zone, and he's not big enough to be seen by the safety sensors on the robots so I didn't want anything bad to happen to him. Right behind me is a light curtain for one of the robot arms, I had to corral the little sparrow away from it because he was bee lining right into shutting down the machine. And I mean corral, because he wouldn't fly away. He just kept slowly hopping around looking for food. So once I made sure he was out of any danger of stopping something, I bent down and snapped a pic. Thing is, the little sparrow was completely unafraid of me. To corral him I was poking him with my bundle of zip ties. I bent right down and looked in his face and he looked up and just kept milling about. He was just so unphased by this giant person lightly poking him with plastic things. He actually seemed more annoyed than scared.

Inside a factory isn't the right place for a little, friendly sparrow. Luckily there was a door out of the building about 100 ft away from this picture. So I slowly and smoothly corralled him to the door, making sure to keep him out of the way of any vehicles or spider webs. Once we got to the wall he found a few dead bugs and went to town on them. He wouldn't move until he finished everything. By this point I'd already made a scene. People were confused why I was doing tai chi movements and wanted to see what was going on. Some people laughed, some people helped. One person held the door for us as the little sparrow and I went outside. Right outside the building is a field, and I figured he would like it better out there. For the first time since I saw him, he bounded away from me and started pecking away at things in the field. I think it was a little baby, because it didn't fly away once it got outside. And there's a group of cats that hand around an area about a kilometer from where I let the little sparrow outside. But I figured the little guy would have more of a chance outside than inside.

So that's what I did at work today. Surprisingly no one was angry at me for chasing a little bird around instead of doing actual work.

:3: That was nice of you.

Okay, I don't have pics, but I do have a small story.

Last Christmas, I was faced with the daunting aspect of gift-giving to my family...who spoils me ROTTEN. And I had very little resources to reimburse them, so to speak.

As a recently graduated art student, I decided to make everyone something. With such a small budget, I searched SomethingAwful and was given a great idea: to transfer photos to canvas. Cheap, pretty, and doable.

I spent DAYS agonizing over the photos each family member would receive. Eventually I decided on about 6 photos. After work one evening, full of virtue, I went to the local Kinkos to transfer my photos to paper for my project. I was dismayed to learn my pictures were not properly sized and it would be $5 each to resize each of them.

I walked away dejected, but after a few blocks I realized, hey! I can just resize one photo and use it for everyone. Not perfect, but good enough. So I went back.

The woman who was helping me was a sweetheart, and we starting chatting as she adjusted my picture. We talked about all sorts of things...car trouble, how expensive it is to live where we do, etc. Gradually I began to notice she wasn't just monkeying around with the one photo I'd decided on, but a few of them. Testing filters. Adjusting the grayscale for prints.

I started to panic a bit. I couldn't pay for this! So I cut it off as politely as possible, sweating all the while. At this point I had enough prints to last me 3 Christmases. Several different ones, at that. I could pay, yeah, but it would suck...

I asked what the price came to. She looked me in the eye and said,

"That will be $1.96."

I have never cried in a public place...but that was loving close.

My family loved their presents.

I posted this in the yoscattes thread, but then I remembered this thread. I think this is cute and uplifting.

We stopped in at a bar for dinner in the little town of Augusta, Montana last weekend. After we had been there for a bit, an old rancher came in and sat down for a drink. Not long after, a big black Tom came in and jumped up on the stool next to him. The old man was just constantly giving him scritches and talking to him. I met them both outside later, and apparently the old man's cat had died a few months ago, and this stray had taken a liking to him. So now, every night, they're best drinking buddies.

That's my bar cat story.
