Just the Famicom game. The movie is just "Nemo", and the comic strip is "Little Nemo".

For the "four letters of the alphabet" thing, I thought a bit outside the box and ended up deciding that it was going to be Murder on the Mississippi, because "Mississippi" only uses four letters of the alphabet.

The sad thing is that it's both cheaper and easier to get a uniform than it is to get one of those figures.

As much as I'd want to see this, I sadly can't see this ever happening as it's received so few console releases... Unless they've decided to pull an 'Aces of Hardware' and have Arino play it off of a Tapwave Zodiac.

This does give me an idea, though... If the film gets enough of an audience to make the Vegas challenge a reality, does playing an American game in America sound too far-fetched?

I read an interview with Miyamoto about Pikmin 3 where he mentioned M.U.L.E. as an influence, so I guess it does have some sort of presence in Japan.

It turns out the next challenge (on the 22nd) will be "The Legend of Kage" for the NES. It's just called Kage in Japan, hence the "4 letters of the alphabet" hint.

EDIT - I was wrong, it's "Shadow of the Ninja", not "The Legend of Kage".

KAGE is not Legend of Kage (that's called "Kage no densetsu" in Japan), but the highly underrated and mighty entertaining platformer known as "Blue Shadow" in Europe, and "Shadow of the Ninja" in America.
A childhood favorite, really looking forward to this episode.

Gotta Get Dem Cheevos
So I finally sat down and am playing through Retro Game Challenge, all I can say is, I am really upset that the second game never came over and I really hope that now that they know they have an American following they will release the 3ds game here. I'm very tempted to import the second game from Japan though. To anyone who has Imported the game, I understand that there is in fact 2 text adventure games and an RPG but with a 0 understanding of Japanese currently how hard would it be to play through the game, I guess if I were to try to self teach myself Japanese?

When I bought mine I was lucky enough that the previous owner did all the unlocking for me!

Besides that though, you can actually skip challenges you are too stuck on. Unlike Abe, you wont need to make someone else beat your game for you.

A Meitantei walkthrough is readily available.
And hilariously, if you just want to get through Guadia Quest Saga's challenges, they have the exact same conditions as the first game.

Progression/unlocking is really no different than RGC1 either. Once you get over the hump of the Meitantei game (and the second one is optional), you can enjoy the rest of the games just fine.

Don't worry. Due to Nintendo's stance on wanting to localize more games from Japan, there's a higher chance of getting the GCCX game here in the US. Also now that the show is popular enough here, maybe we'll get it without the references to the show taken out.

I played through the entirety of the game understanding precisely gently caress-all Japanese at the time. I think I still have a text file on my computer of extremely basic challenge translations just so I didn't have to dig through old GameFAQS threads everytime I wanted to know what I was doing.

Meitantei walkthroughs are available, so the pain is eased on that one. The RPG however, I just kinda got through by blind luck, intuition and trial and error. The first three challenges are pretty simple stuff akin to the first game's RPG challenges, last one might cause a bit more complications. It's nothing untenable though, you'll succeed eventually.

Yes, I do still have the thingy of the translated guide around.
