because our character has the 'poet' trait, this update shall be told in the format of a rap battle.
Well, that was the perfect sendoff to an evening of excellent heisting.

I found a group of pubbies who were roundly competent and we went through Rats, Firestarter and Bank Heist at very hard-overkill a few times together and racked up solid cash. And then we went in for one final round of Rats, just on Hard difficulty.

And then they started cooking meth. And they kept cooking meth. And they didn't leave the house because they wanted to cook more meth. Four bags. Six bags. I'd fallen into a targeting trance, acquiring target and terminating with the mosconi, over and over. Seven bags. I began to wonder if this was some kind of hell. Eight bags. "ok i think we're ready" said one of them. Not even the host. They hadn't co-ordinated this in any chat I had access to, and they'd gone through Rats before with me entirely normally. Anyway, turns out I killed 108 cops that round, but whatever. Lotsa money, right?

Next level. The gangsters betray us. Cops swarm in. Suddenly everybody's on their asses and we lose. Nice big fat gently caress you in the form of 0xp for the day to go with it.

"Well, it's been good but I'm done for the night," I said.
"Hail satan," said the leader of the pubbies.
"Hail satan indeed," I responded, and wandered away.

Historically, game devs and other fiction creators receive polite calls from the government if they're planning to depict attacks on government facilities, especially in DC, and especially the White House. I think the Secret Service are the ones who do it. It's not that the government try to stop you from rendering such an attack (they legally can't, with an incredibly narrow exception for express guidance/incitement), they just don't want anyone to even think that the depictions might work as a sort of blueprint. I hear a classic example of this is the White House mission at the end of Hitman: Blood Money. The usual solution, as seen in that game, is that the end product is so unlike the actual building/security that no one would think they could rely on it to carry out an attack.

Long story short, if the Overkill folks do render a Treasury or White House heist, it will probably take them longer to make and look very little like the real thing.

If they were going to hit anything, my vote would be the National Archives.

As long as you've got some buddies (either IRL friends with the game or some goons) to help you over the initial level hump, you'll be golden. It's honestly not as frustrating as some have made it out to be; a few heists of "learning the ropes" and you'll be ready to go.

I wouldn't call it frustrating to play at a low level, like, at all. You can play pretty well the moment you get rid of your starting weapon which is almost immediately. The main issue is the dearth of content: it's got fewer missions than it really needs and I don't know how likely it is there will be free DLC anytime soon. I am and still will have a fuckton of fun, but it seriously needs more missions.

This game is fun as hell to play, ignore the people in this thread who moan about not getting sparkly bits for their blingy guns after every run.

If you get in a goon group you will level up quickly, and teamwork is more useful than any of the skills, weapons or mods.

The game doesn't really have classes so you never really play as a Tech/Enforcer/Ghost/Mastermind per se, you can just buy whatever skills you have the skillpoints, money and access to.

For instance I have maxed out Enforcer but am also dumping points into Mastermind cos that is where the fun stuff is, I know guys who have almost all of the basic skills across the four trees.

Nothing breaks your will like trying to play Frames and Oil with pubbies. Seriously, gently caress em'.

I actually managed to finally complete Big Oil with a group of pubbies. Though it was an unusually competent group, that did things like *help kill the Bulldozer that was chasing me through the house on Day 2* and were otherwise pretty good at murdering things and using bullets well.

I told them to cover me while I found the right engine. They were plenty patient even though I probably took a bit too long. Things got a bit hairy at the end, where I think me and another guy had absolutely zero ammo left, no ammo bags, and I'm basically stranded out on the runway weighed down by the engine, but we pulled it off.

That run also confirmed something I didn't quite know - the cops dynamically take objectives, rather than it being scripted. I've seen them run in and kick the drill on the downstairs door to instantly jam it before, but if you keep them away from the power box at the main door, the power will never go out (unless they hit a different box..but I'm not sure where/how). :downs: Seems obvious in hindsight, and as I recall was also a thing in PD1 (though only in the DLC maps and was more of a pain in the rear end), but it never clicked with me until now. Though I suppose it's really only useful to know for Big Oil and maybe Frames.

Before I went Mosconi/Bronco for life I used the CAR-4 almost exclusively and even with the couple upgrades I have it's pretty good. It's rear end for bulldozers but does enough damage to not be a bother for about everything else. Extremely accurate burst fire, accurate hip fire, pretty low recoil, good concealability if you need it.

I could see people using it on overkill regularly with rifle-focused skills. I bet modded out with all the rifle perks, + the ammo bag infinite ammo skill you could literally drop a bag, line up at head-level on a gigantic pack of cops, and hold the button down and not really need to move the house to keep it steady enough to dole out hundreds of bullets worth of headshots.

I did a more experimental respec today just to see what life is like at maxed out mastermind and if I'm being terribly honest, Kilmer and Ace doesn't seem much worth it. Even guns like the JP36 kick the sights around due to their firing animations even if the recoil doesn't push the sights vertical at all. Faster reload is nice but eh, not as much use as it is for the shotguns in enforcer.

Why on earth would you use the AMCAR? Even with mods it's still completely lackluster. The CAR4 on the other hand is wonderful and I've almost finished completely kitting mine out to my specifications (just need to unlock the folding stock and the exotique). The Amr and the 7.62 both have admirable firepower tempered by low ammo capacity. I personally would say the 7.62 is better of the two since it's easier to pull off single shots with it, basically making it into a more combat oriented 308.

Insert name here posted:

For ARs only my go to weapons on overkill are the AKM and M16. After that I have the AUG and the LR 300 (CAR-4) if I want to mix it up. The AUG in particular is surprisingly good once you have the Leadership skill aced (50% recoil reduction on everything) and get a hang of the recoil since it's a loving tack driver, having a higher base accuracy than the M14. On lower difficulties I also have the Ak 5 which is really fun to use but you really feel the lack of damage on overkill, though if I know I'm running with a good crew I'll take it sometimes anyway cause I can get away with it.
3 things in no particular order:
*The LR300! That's why the CAR4 seemed so familiar, because I was saw it in STALKER all the drat time! Man, why is it so great here and so crap in those games?
*That's why I recommend people go back and play some games on normal difficulty using other weapons. A lot of the weapons in this game would be a hell of a lot more useful and would allow for a lot more variation in choice if they just boosted their stats a little bit. The MP5 in particular would be a fantastic secondary if they just boosted it's damage a little bit. It really feels to me like there's a whole different set up of weapon tiers depending on your current difficulty.
*Do you really recommend the AUG? It's been like a siren calling to me for a long time with that huge accuracy rating but the recoil and the fact that I can't do much about it without taking a huge hit to mobility mean I've been hesitant to use it. I guess once I get some more mods for it I'll give it a test run.

Exact same problem here. I've honestly had to go through my posts on here before and edit those out because I can't even remember half of the genericised (is that a word?) names. Some of them are fine, like Crosskill since there have been so many variants of the M1911A1 that I could see that being a name but I honestly can't even remember the in-game name of the MP5 or the M9.

I use it almost exclusively as my main weapon because it has a fantastic balance of overall stats but I definitely have to say that until you unlock a lot of mods for it you're probably better off sticking to one of the more powerful ones. Long barrel+stubby boost its damage up to the point that it's equal to a baseline AMR16 which really helps with its low damage. The foregrip is great because it has literally no downside, reducing recoil and visibility while boosting mobility and either the milspec or the tacmag gives it a healthy ammo boost. Basically yeah, use something else until you can mod the poo poo out of it.

Personally, I'd like to see a 7 day heist involving the white house. It would be called "The Buck Stops Here" and completing it would be the only way to unlock president masks.

I ran the CAR all the way up to the AMR unlocked. I equipped anything that would give +Damage and found it good to use. Headshots are better with all weapons and the CAR is no exception. My initial concern with the AMR was overall capacity - but in the big-boy leagues at least one person has double capacity ammo bags. I still have the CAR with the suppressed barrel - it allows you to maintain stealth while still having a Locomotive for close range clean up.
