CerebralDonut posted:This is probably a dumb question, but is this game worth getting in its current state? I've read through a few pages of the thread and I get the impression its frustrating to play unless you're leveled high, as well as other frustrating stuff. Should I just wait for an influx of new players before I try this game? I'm having a great time with this game in its current state. I think its best suited to people who are into doing things well (i.e. being efficient) but not into min-maxing in game situations where I can see some of the mechanics getting frustrating. In general I'm finding it is a casual fun cooperative experience best played with friends although I've met some good guys outside of the goons who weren't complete incompetents. The things that are slightly annoying: The map -- this is how you get missions and its just not a great way to do it. Sure it has a fiction around it but its not a fun mechanic. They should just give you a list to pick from. Keep it random if you want but this scrolling around the map looking for a mission to play is just kind of annoying for no reason. The card system -- very little rhyme or reason for it. The illusion of randomness and a weird set of rules guide this mechanic. It seems like they felt it was easier than developing a coherent and cohesive unlocking/buying system for gears, masks and equipment. That said, if you're a casual player, leveling organically and just playing the game, these things don't matter much in the long run (other than silencers which I just received randomly at level 38) If you're the kind of person that gets mad when some random guy makes a mistake in a game, this game probably isn't for you. If a mistake is made and you say "oh man, the jig is up. change in tactics guys" and roll with things, then its gold.

The game seems to have gotten really buggy with the last patch. We've had tons of issues the last few days with people not being able to join games. My friend loses his voice chat so he can't hear anyone else, yet his mic still works (that's actually always been an issue). We had a game on Four Stores were someone was downed but wouldn't go into custody, it just sat at 0, so we couldn't finish the map until he quit. There seems to be a new bug now, where if someone joins a lobby and leaves there is a chance that that position in the game will be stuck. So you'll playing a bunch of good rounds, someone will quit and then you'll just NEVER get a fourth person to join. It's gotten to the point where just getting a solid game in with no issues is becoming difficult.

Yeah, since an unalerted guard goes down in one hit, just sprinting up to them and doing a flying body tackle is both more effective and more satisfying than shooting them. Shooting is for cameras. After the guards are all dead. Also, I have the ghost skills that increase your knockdown chances with melee and level one of the enforcer melee damage boost. Is the enforcer skill that much of a boost, or should I just shoot for berserker or not bother? The knockdown is really useful for keeping three guys stunned when I don't have time to reload, but it always seems like I have to spend 2 minutes bopping each one in turn before they keel over.

I haven't really noticed it being that useful, personally, and I'm a Tier-6 Enforcer with the Ghost "Martial Arts" skill. Workshop support would be amazing for the graphical stuff alone. I think we were chatting about that last night, actually. Changing the zip ties to pink fuzzy handcuffs and such. Our group last night was solid; 4 people all with the skills to stealth missions (aka smooth talker and dominate) made Framing Frame hilarious and quick. Guards getting mugged by 3 people in the bathroom, dominated suckers everywhere, good teamwork and the ability to react quickly to keep things under control. I blew a stealth Nightclub mission when we got to the office because I clubbed a civilian standing in front of the window to the dance floor. Oops. Dropped an ECM and went about picking the safe while the rest of the team ran downstairs to crowd control; someone else dropped another ECM, more shouting and zip-tying and somehow the cops got called about half-way through our wait for the escape van but we made it out without an Escape or anything. My biggest complaint with the game right now is the low/med/high textures setting; I play on Low because my comp sucks, but the in-game textures on Big Oil are affected so I can't read clip boards or check gauges. Similarly, when customizing masks the mask textures are low-res and awful looking (despite the black helmet structure of the thing being the same res at all settings). I have to switch to High textures, customize my mask, then switch back. Actually I wonder if it'd be possible to just copy the high textures for those things into the Low settings and leave everything else as-is. Hm.

If you stealth Framing Frames all the way through on Very Hard or Overkill you get 20 Million+ total so like 2 or 3 million in spending money. You also get a shitload of XP for a level 20. Of course you alone can not stealth this mission easily at level 20 but there is tons of goons that would be happy for you to carry bags and play lookout. It seems like single day jobs are best if you mainly want more cards. Cards = Ukranian Job, Four Stores, Jewelry Store, Mall Crashers, Nightclub Money = Banks, Rats EXP = Framing Frames and other multi-day.

This isn't a game to go into with no coordination at all. Once you get to a high enough level even this can be fun. Warning: ![]() I was playing a Pro Overkill Bank Heist yesterday and two level 29's show up along with another pubbie at level 50 who packed a saw. I'm occasionally talking over comms and using text chat but I don't really care much. This should be a milk run with a saw. We pop the vault and there is cash inside. The assault ends and I tell the pubbies that we should run bags to the van across the street (directly opposite the lobby) while the saw does his thing. We ferry all of the bags out, throw them across the street and shuffle them inside of our van. I go back in the bank to make sure the vault is clear and then the assault starts, everything seems good. He should be done with those boxes in no time. I drop one of my two ammo bags for the saw. At this point I go back to the lobby and see that both of the pubbies that helped me moved bags are still sitting by the van. I ask why and they make it clear that they're not risking coming back across the street again. They're staying put. Now I've got to cover the bank vault, the offices, the side entrance, the front entrance and the street on my own. I actually do this quite effectively because the two pubbies in the alley are drawing most of the attention their way allowing me to off shields/heavies quickly with my Mosconi. The next assault ends with a minimum of trouble and the two pubbies in the alley are out of ammo. I ferry a few more bags our saw found in the vault over to the van and drop my last ammo bag for them. I head back into the bank while telling the saw that we should probably go. "Nearly done." So I get ready to fend off another police assault largely on my own. The pubbies outside are having a little trouble and go down once or twice but they're hiding more than fighting at this point and always pick each other up. Our saw goes down once when he's on our last few boxes so I charge into the vault and kill off the two shields that had made it inside. He pops the last deposit box and moves to the lobby with a sackful of money. I grab the last bag of money and follow suit. "Don't run the bags during the assault dude." No response. We roll up to the front of the lobby and despite his ignoring my request I'm pretty confident I can cover him long enough to get the bags into the van. We're about to walk onto the street and 3 bulldozers roll up right in front of us. Our saw user falls back a few feet and instantly gets dropped. I'm pretty low on shells at this point but I manage to drop one bulldozer while the others run back out onto the street to badger the pubbies who are out by the van...and they're out of ammo. I pick up our saw user just as the other two dozers come rolling back into the bank. Our saw user, now back onto his feet, ignores my "don't charge into the dozers don't charge into the dozers" plea and makes a beeline for the front door with two dozers standing in the doorway. He immediately drops and attempts to throw his bag across the street. Keep in mind I've been continually fending off heavy SWAT and shields this entire time as well and I'm nearly dry on ammo. The bags we'd dropped inside are nearly gone except the dregs of a single bag back nearer the vault. I fire the last three or four shells into the dozer's face, blow off his facemask and use my M9 to finish the job. Without the shells for my Mosconi to drop the last dozer I know our saw user is as good as dead. I manage to pick up a little ammo from SWAT I'd previously killed inside the office and head to the front lobby - only to see a dozer charging me head on. I turn around and cut through the copier room, come up behind him and finally drop the last dozer. Our saw is in custody by this point and, having just used the few shells I was able to scrounge up on bulldozers, I'm nearly dry on ammo yet again. The street looks relatively clear so I decide I'm going to run for it. I hop out a window and make a beeline for the van, relying on my Ghost dodge chance, which ultimately pulls me through. I duck behind the dumpster, wait for my armor to regenerate, and make one last mad dash back into the street for the last two bags of cash we'd thrown there earlier. And made it out alive without ever going down ![]() ![]() fennesz fucked around with this message at 17:49 on Aug 26, 2013 |
