Hey. Hey kid. Come closer. Ya like dags? The most inframe shot of him you'll see in this LP Tales of Vesperia (テイルズ オブ ヴェスペリア or "Teiruzu obu Vesuperia" in the glorious Nippon language) is the tenth main title in the Tales series of video games. It was developed by Namco Tales Studio and published by blah blah blah you can read the wikipedia article here. Vesperia is a JRPG. In my experience, JRPGs almost always contain dumb teenagers with rainbow colored hair and relationship issues saving the world for no other reason than they're bored while fulfilling animè tropes such as "protecting others" and "having a hot-springs scene". Seeing how I have some experience with one of the previous titles in this series, I suspect that this one will be no different. "Now Kuvo", you may say, "why are you LPing this game when its obviously you won't like it?". For the same reason I watch bad movies; to make fun of them. No one likes to watch bad movies by themselves, but get some friends (and alcohol) and you can have a great time. To facilitate this, joining me in this LP will be Geop, Minifoo and Vicas (later on Adus and Admiral H. Curtiss sub in too). All three of them are LP veterans, and are (IMO) funny guys. They also all have either played or beaten this game, which is good. Because I haven't. "Kuvo", you may continue, "don't you know that blind LPs are never good!". While I would normally agree with you, the last one we did didn't turn out so bad. Plus Minifoo will be fighting in battles along side me, and Vicas knows the game so he can steer me in the right direction "But Kuvo, If Geop is making gut-wrenchingly terrible puns over cut-scenes how am I suppose to relate to these animê people! Talking over dialog is the NO. 1 LP SIN!". You voted on it. I thought you were streaming it? I had planned on it, but now FF14 is taking up all of my free time. Is this going to be like Symphonia where you sucked at every fight, paid no attention to the game, got drunk and yelled and even passed out in a few episodes? I can't recall the events you're talking about. How often are you going to release video? Was planning on Mon/Fri, but in all likelihood it will be whenever I feel like it. Can you upload a version without you guys talking over everything? No. Why do you do this to yourself? Rationalization for my alcoholism. Will you fight the super secret tsundere badger boss? If Vicas knows of it and he thinks it's funny, probably. PM him if stuff like this exists in the game. What happened to the drinking word? They led to bad things. Though if you want to follow along at home, Minifoo suggests blastia and aer. Why is the dog named Pangloss? You can change the names of the 7 main characters though the status menu, which is reflected in dialog. I think it's funny to name them on a theme, and I try to drop hints throughout the episode. If you're too uncultured to get the references (or too lazy to google them), here's a list 01-12: original names 13-17: some stupid poo poo 18-21: anime words 22: THIS EPISODE IS CANON 23-26: Characters from The Big Lebowski 27-30: Callsigns from TOP GUN 31-33: Characters from The Legend of Galactic Heros 34-37: the 7 deadly sins 38-42: Characters from SDF Macross 43-46: Characters from Dune 47-50: Characters from Twin Peaks 51-54: Characters from The Brothers Karamazov 55-60: Characters from Planetes 61-65: Characters from Kurt Vonnegut novels 66-70: Characters from Candide 71-75: Characters from Cave Story 76-80: Characters from The Diamond Age 81-85: Characters from Catch 22 86: The Monty Python cast 87-91: Characters from The Moon is a Harsh Mistress 92-97: Characters from Cromartie High School 98-103: Members of Castlevania's Belmont clan 104-109: Characters from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 110-111: Kuvo fucked around with this message at 16:18 on Nov 18, 2014 |

While you guys are spot on in saying that Repede is the best character in this game, it should be noted that Yuri is the best protagonist in the Tales series because he is the least whiny anime. He's also not clinically retarded (ie: Lloyd)

Yeah, Yuri is pretty great, but honestly most of the cast of this game is really solid. It delves into the common tropes once in a while but it actually manages to dodge some of them as well. I'm sad there won't be 4-player shenanigans like Symphonia but I look forward to this either way. Also I really like this game and for some reason punished myself by getting all the achievements so keep me in mind for like, back-up commentary or something. Oh this will be neat. As you might be able to tell because of my SSLP, I love this game, mostly because of the great main character cast and their interactions. That's not to say that this game isn't without its flaws (certainly not!), but it's overall very fun.

Is the video supposed to be in widescreen? Because porting it into Polsy (and... a lot of other videos into polsy, now that I think about it) boxes it up and scrunches the video for no actual reason.

I'm slightly sad this isn't one of the stupider Tales games. I mean, Vesperia's not high art, but it's downright intelligent compared to, say, Graces.

A note regarding your basic battle system attacks that I believe you missed, if you attack normally while holding the Free Run button (the one that allows you to run around the entire battlefield), you do an extra attack that's not included in the basic combo. You can chain it at the end of a normal combo and before an Arte. Yuri's is pretty useful, so maybe keep it in mind.

As for the Yuri thing, the VA is named Yuri Lowenthal and the character Yuri Lowell, and he couldn't voice him because he voiced the main character in the previous game and I guess they didn't want a similar voice for two protagonists in a row.
