Dragon Age Inquisition: to be released 11/18/14

Official Website: http://www.dragonage.com/
Picking up from the events of Dragon Age 2, your character "The Inquisitor" is thrown into the middle of the mage/templar war tearing Thedas apart. Operating separately from the Chantry, you gather a group of companions and allies to fight off dragons, demons, and seek to find out what is behind the evil ravaging Thedas.

FAQ:
What systems will the game be available for?:
Game will be available for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS 3, and PS4.

What system specs do I need to run this game?

Will I be able to import my saves from my old Dragon Age Games? I'm going to buy this game for a new system/I don't want to play the old games/I lost my old saves!
Developers have released information on the Dragon Age Keep: https://dragonagekeep.com/ The keep will be open to all on October 29th, 2014.
The Keep will be the way to import decisions from DA:O and DA2 to DA:I. It allows you to make choices from both games to create a world state to use for Inquisition.

What races can I play?
Human, Elf, Dwarf, or Qunari. There will be 4 voices sets to choose from- 2 for male, 2 for female.

Are there origins?
Yes, see here: http://www.dragonage.com/#!/en_US/inquisitor
You can be a Carta dwarf, a Dalish elf, Human noble, or Qunari Tal-Vashoth Mercenary.

Who are the companions?

There will be nine companions total. They are:

Varric (rogue), who returns from Dragon Age 2. Your friendly story-telling dwarf, although he's much sweatier and sadder looking this time around. Not romancable.
Cassandra (warrior), also returning from Dragon Age 2. This time the Seeker will be a companion and love interest for Male Inquisitors.
Vivianne (mage), an Orlesian Circle described as a leader and the First Enchanter to the Imperial Court. Not romanceable.
The Iron Bull (warrior), a Qunari who joins the Inquisition to report on it to the Qunari. Iron Bull is pansexual.
Sera (rogue), a rogue elf who is described as "young and frenetic". She is a romance available to female Inquisitors only.
Blackwall(warrior), a veteran Grey Warden. He is a romance available to female Inquisitors.
Cole (rogue), a spirit who haunts a human body. Can't screw that ghost, sorry.
Dorian (mage): A Tevinter Magister intent on righting the wrongs his country has done. Also a romance for male Inquisitors only.
Solas (mage): An apostate mage who comes out of hiding to help the Inquisition. Romance available to female elves only.

Any other characters?
There will be three advisers to the Inquisition including:
Leliana- returning from DA:O and DA2. She will be your spymaster.
Josephine- the Inquisition's ambassador. She is a bisexual love-interest.
Cullen- also returning from DA:O and DA2. Unclear what his role is, probably troops/war assets. He is a love interest for female human and elf Inquisitors.

What about Morrigan? I saw her in the trailer!
She will not be a companion, but will play an important part in the game.

Will the Warden or Hawke return?
An article seems to imply they will appear, but as cameos. Hawke was shown in the "Enemies of Thedas" trailer.

How will combat work?
You can have four people in your battle party and have one selected at a time. Battle can be paused to select tactics. View can be changed from behind your character to an overhead full top-down view. You can still program in tactics to your party members. Environment can be utilized and can be destroyed. Battle can be paused to issue orders.

Healing will NOT regenerate after combat, meaning having potions will be important.

Gameplay/combat video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98Y1IAY-TYk#t=22

"I hated the recycled maps in DA2, are they repeating that?"
No, there will be a much larger, dynamic world for the player to explore, either on foot, or by horse. Exploration will be encouraged this time around. New areas are "unlocked" by completing quests and gaining influence in the world.

Several informative videos and articles are available here(from lore to romance): http://www.gameinformer.com/p/dai.aspx

Will there be multiplayer?
Yes! It will not effect the main storyline like in ME3, but there is a multiplayer element. Up to four people can play co-op in a dungeon crawl like experience. You can choose from twelve different characters to play (4 for each class). Go here for more: http://www.dragonage.com/#!/en_US/news/multiplayer-faq
Co-op video here: http://www.dragonage.com/#!/en_US/mediaGallery/videos/youtube89

Any other new info to be added here.

Have fun, discuss, dissect, but stick to the topic. This is a Dragon Age thread, so please no derailing into Mass Effect talk, there is a separate thread for that.

For reference, here is a link of mods that Eightdeer has listed that people have found useful for DA:o:

EightDeer posted:

I know someone already linked you to a list of mods, but I thought I'd share my own. This has no mod conflicts whatsoever. Divided into Bugfixes and actual Mods:

Bugfixes
Awakening Quest fixes: This fixes two buggy quests in the expansion.
Baroness Reward fix: This fixes a quest reward bug in Awakening.
Bergen's Honor fix: This fixes a minor graphical bug with the bonus helmet you get with the Collector's / Digital Deluxe edition.
Blackblade Drop fix:This makes a piece of high-end equipment that wasn't dropping properly in Awakening drop.
Cailan Helm fix: If you have Cailan's armour from Return to Ostagar, you can import it into Awakening but the texture will be bugged. Here's a fix for that.
Damage statistic fix:The in-game journal keeps a record of each character's Damage Dealt and Contribution to Party Damage numbers, but it's bugged without this fix.
Dialog Tweaks: Fixes a number of bugged conversations. The second of the really important fixes on this list.
DLC import tool: Allows you to import all DLC items into Awakening. Less fiddly than the one Raygereio linked to.
Dragon Age Rules Fixpack: The core combat mechanics in DA are hilariously broken, there are so many rules fixes in this pack. :siren: If you only install one mod, it should be this one. :siren: One warning, though: It also includes a number of unnecessary tweaks. Check the readme carefully before you install it.
Golem Registry and Shaper's Life fix: Fixes two broken quest rewards in Origins.
Jowan's Intention quest fix: Fixes a bugged quest in Origins.
Make console commands visible: This ensures you can see what you're typing when you use the dev console.
Manually set plot flags: This mod allows you to manually check and modify plot flags, but I only use it to get a 100% complete codex, which is otherwise impossible.
Morrigan Restoration patch: Fixes a number of bugged dialogues with Morrigan.
Stolen gear fix: This fixes a major bug in Awakening where you can permanently lose all your equipped gear.
Unobtainable item fix: This restores a lot of items in Origins that you were supposed to be able to get but couldn't.
Vigilance/Starfang fix: If you have Warden's Keep active, the best swords in the game will look identical. Here's a fix for that. The page linked has a DLC fix tool, but ignore it and just grab the Vigilance fix.
Werewolf eye fix: Fixes a graphics bug with the former werewolves.
Yuriah's third upgrade fix: The merchant Yuriah in Awakening is supposed to upgrade his stock three times, but the third one doesn't work right. Fix here.
ZDF Dialog fix: Fixes too many dialog bugs to count. This is the third of the really important fixes.

Mods
AddItem script: This allows you to add items to your inventory with the dev console.
Advanced Party: This makes it so the game doesn't auto-assign stat and talent points. Very useful.
Advanced Tactics: This upgrades the tactics system from "passable" to "actually good".
Chargen Package: Adds a few new appearance options during character creation. There's more content-rich examples of this type of mod, but I like this particular one.
Console - Add Points: The cheater's best friend, allowing you to add attribute, skill, specialization and talent points with the developer console. I can't enjoy this game without it.
Extra Dog Slot: This means your dog can come with you without taking up a party slot that would normally be given to a more useful party member. I didn't know that it screws with the Captured part of the game until Raygereio told me, because I never surrender. :smug:
Improved Follower Items: Each party member gets an item (usually an amulet, belt or ring) that only they can use. Problem is, those items are great for immersion but suck in actual gameplay. This mod improves those. Even better, you can choose just how powerful these items are, according to your personal preference. My advice: set it on "High power". It's the only way to make Sten's sword viable in the end-game. Bonus: It can give Warden's Oath amulets to other Wardens in your party.
Improved Origin Items: A companion to the mod above, this improves the PC-only items you get in the origins, as well as the Warden's Oath amulet you get when you complete the Joining. Like its twin, you can adjust the power of the items. :siren: Do not start a new game with this mod enabled, otherwise the mod will bug out. :siren: The right way to use it is to turn it off, start a new game, save, and then turn it back on.
No Automatic Deactivations: There are a few sustained abilities that turn off automatically when you're not in combat. I got thoroughly sick of having to keep re-enabling Blood Magic, so I grabbed this mod.
Quick Shapeshifting: Shapeshifting becomes instant. I don't use Shapeshifting, ever. I have no idea why I downloaded and installed this mod.
Qunari update: This changes Sten and the many kossith enemies so that they look like the DAII kossith.
Shady Dealings: This adds a merchant to your camp that sells all the recipes, plus an unlimited number of arrows and bolts (all types), books, crafting ingredients, and runes. Also a bunch of massively overpowered equipment. Make sure you download the Plus version. Useful for not having to run across the entire map for crafting supplies.
Storage Chest: This adds a storage chest to the party camp. Simple.
Sustainable Cooldown Remover:This removes all cooldowns from sustainable abilities. I don't know how I ever played without it.

Combination of the two. You get the wheel, but when you hover over an option it shows the full quote of what you're going to say so you don't get the weird rear end "Why the hell did he say that" thing that DA2 and mass effect had.

I think the development that I'm most happy about is that warriors get a harpoon on a string -ala Scorpion- to drag people into their kill-zone. I mean that's the right amount of dumb and function that I like to see in video games.

They showed that if you linger over a dialogue option a short description of what you can expect to happen will pop up. They said they don't want you getting into situations where you think you're choosing a reasonable response from the wheel's summary and find your character punches someone out. It'll also provide you with some information about likely outcomes if you're making a quest decision to encourage making a more informed choice. Whether "Tell me more" is in or you can glean all that from tooltips I dunno.

It really does look pretty. I always feel a bit shallow when I like good graphics, but it is nice to have.

The combat seems to be some cross between DA2 and DA:O, right? I wonder how that will work.

Goku would be ashamed of you.
Happy to see Qunari will be playable. The only way I could trudge through DAII was to mod it to play as the Arishok and choose the most sarcastic dialogue possible throughout the entire game. It was actually kind of fun playing a big scary Qunari with a European accent who trolled the hell out of everyone.

PC Gamer is not a good place to get opinions on games. Dragon Age II though did get overwhelmingly positive reviews though. I think the issue is that reviewers do not spend enough time with the games they play. They have maybe 3 days at most to play a game and get a review out. That means very little to no time at all to actually reflect on what they've played. So what you get is a lot of very positive opinions from reviewers and gamers alike, and then a month later peoples minds start to change as they have time to critically think about what they've actually played.

I've been going back through baldurs gate and will be doing baldurs gate 2 shortly. I'm really, really, really, REALLY wanting a continuation of that level of depth, character, storytelling, strategy, and immersion. They came super close with DA: Origins with the strategic play and interesting characters, but fell short with bland repetitive enemies and class imbalances. DA 2 took three steps back with its shoehorn plot, recycled areas and lack of character.

I really hope DA 3 goes back to its roots and gives us a more polished and complex DA 1 with more depth as seen in BG 2. I feel like they had a chance to make another epic franchise and dropped the ball. With this being the supposed last one, maybe we can get that BG level game by focusing on what made BG and DA 1 good.

It did not help that the first act was better than the second and especially the third act. Still, it is always a good idea to wait a week before buying the game. Some goons will probably preorder the game in any case, and we can hear what they have to say. If it is really bad there will also be uproar in the Bioware forums. Rome 2 looked and sounded awesome, and look how that release turned out.

And you should never fear to miss anything important by not preordering. If there is sufficient demand then any preorder bonus will be made available per DLC, and I would rather spend a bit more money for a DLC than buy a game which could turn out to be the next Sword of the Stars 2.

And still the choice at the end of Throne of Baal was a single text choice. Option 1 and you become a god, option 2 and you stay mortal. Your choice makes no difference to the characters except for your sister or you love interest. Kind of like ME3. The different endings of DA:O felt more natural in my opinion. And class balance, well at least you cannot use time-stop traps in DA:O.

Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale are some of the best RPGs of all time (and look better than the drab DA games), but they still had flaws.

Yes, I've played Starcraft.
I hope this game has way more character development and crazy skill trees. Even though I hate the buggy frostbite engine (probably because :dice:), the possibility of tearing down a wall with a fireball spell (better yet maybe a barbarian headbutting the wall down) to gain a tactical advantage really appeals to me. I wouldn't be surprised if none of this was added into the game, they leave the boring-rear end multiple wave combat encounters in, and they over simplify combat to be more "accessible".

This is going to be on Origin as well right? Crap I just de-hyped myself.

e: I just looked it up and this game will be on the Frostbite 3 engine. I hope it's moddable

That was a black human woman with really pointy headgear. Honestly I'm just excited to see more black people in this series; as I mentioned in the other thread I'd like to move out of white people land. I hope she's not the only one (making her the Jacob of DA:I) but I doubt it.

And yeah, I'm thinking our Qunari mage (if the option exists) was either "rescued" from Qunari society at a young age, ran away before he or she could be mutilated, or is a second generation Tal-Vashoth.

Perhaps those will even be the options for the Qunari "origin."

I hope they include the cut-off horn/whole Saarebas look as an appearance option, though. That could be wicked.

Just a heads up, Planescape: Torment is VERY heavy on the role-play and story aspect. I believe you can get through the game without killing more than 10 enemies if you play a rogue. The Icewind Dale games are just the opposite, more focused on the tactical combat, you create each character yourself and cannot gain any NPC followers. So there is no party member interaction, but the story is still nice, if not as deep as the BG games or Planescape. Baldur's Gate is like a cross between Planescape and Icewind Dale (even though it came first).
