There's also one called "Brian and Vinnie play ball" this season. Looks like both dogs will be sticking around.

I hope Vinnie goes the way of the other Brian.

This episode was terrible, it felt like Family Guy. The underlying stories could have been done well too...

I agree, it was just awful. Boring and a complete letdown.

I did appreciate Ma-Ma getting the hots for Big Wang Bi though.

Bleh, I'd have to agree that the episode was awful. I too couldn't help but notice that the gags felt very family guy-ish, very cutaway-y. Best thing about the entire episode was the rizzoli and isles line.

Was it just me or were you guys expecting a visit from Stan's brother, Rusty, as well? I figured Stan would be in Thanksgiving Hell with Bah Bah, Ma Ma, and Rusty ruining game time, all the time.

I didn't think it was that bad...average maybe.

He mentioned at the beginning of the episode that this year there wasn't any family visiting, so no Rusty.

While it wasn't as good as last week's, I don't really get the massive hate for this episode either. Aside from maybe the first scene, nothing about it felt like Family Guy to me.

(Side note: this episode was written by Erik Richter, co-creator of Harvey Birdman.)

I think it's pretty funny that American Dad and Family Guy reference the Grimace more than Ronald McDonald or any of the other folks in McDonaldland, aside from maybe Mayor McCheese.

That did lead to one of my favourite Family Guy gags, the assassination of Mayor McCheese.

It was awful by American Dad standards which means it was average.

Tvguide gives a slightly different read on the episode:

Independent Movie
Steve and pals undertake a cross-country road trip to attend the funeral of Snot's father, and at the same time get their friend to confront his emotions over the old man's death. But Steve's commitment to Snot takes a backseat when he falls for a young lady along the way. Back at home, Stan and Roger invent an automatic cake-cutter and market it on a home-shopping network, but the partnership is tested when the two have a problem agreeing on how to slice up the profit
