I volunteer to be the Ghost. I know a few neat tricks that are almost guaranteed to score a couple of easy kills.

What sucks is that you can do LAN multiplayer with the PS3, but it's just the same as local co-op, and each players' screen is identical. NEW UPDATE Sure, we went through the caves before. But the real question is, can we make it through without any kind of bloodshed on our part? Watch as I make it through the game without having a single kill (which means no whipping, using weapons or throwing stuff at them). My bud RockLeeSmile guests. Chapter 19 - Pacifist Run

That also fulfilled my last condition, which was no hurting the -sels. So I suppose a Rescue Every -sel run is the only remaining variation on that.

One way of dealing with mummys without using bombs/spike shoes I found was to make a run for them, jump and whip at the top of your jump. You'll slip right above them, even in tight corridors. Though it helps if their back is turned to you of course. I do it all the time when I don't want to use up bombs or can't just spike shoe them.

A neat/interesting run gimmick I remember from original spelunky was just no using the whip button at all. So: No whipping/shooting/hitting. No picking up items. No throwing items. No using held items. Just no use of the attack button at all. You can throw bombs/use rope at will, and jump on enemies, everything is fair game except that one button. Edit: Though you can't open crates because no whip, you'd have to buy all your bombs/ropes Edit2: vvv True! But have fun getting an arrow trap near a crate (remember you can't carry the crates). Bombs definitely work though, yeah, didn't think of that. Also this means no picking up -sels either. Jewel fucked around with this message at 17:10 on Jan 13, 2014 |

I have one issue: Would a "no attack button" run end up that much differently than a pacifist one? I mean, to hardcore Spelunky fans sure, but I think it'd go fairly similarly to this one. I guess the only exception would be how lucky he got with bombs.

Slowbeef posted:I have one issue: If you wanted items, you'd have to be clever about it (poo poo, I forgot, you couldn't buy things from shops either!), but he didn't get any special items in the run he just did either, so yeah the major thing would probably just be not being able to throw your bombs around. Maybe he could combine it with this: Psychedelic Eyeball posted:I still have to do a no items run though! In that one, I won't be allowed to even use my bombs and ropes. There are shop items you get just by walking over them. Unless you want to disallow any kind of pick ups period, which would be hard but probably really boring.

Psychedelic Eyeball posted:It'd be doable, but doing this would be pretty much no different from an eggplant run at that point. The haunted castle is not a common sight in Spelunky, having the black market spawning inside of it is even less likely to happen, and then you'd have to use a ball and chain to break the moai statue, get a hired help or an unlockable character to bring the shield to 4-2... AND then you need to get no gold in 4-3 as well. Suffice to say you're all at the mercy of the RNG here. Anything involving carrying an item to the city of gold pretty much relies on blind luck or multiplayer, which is a pity.
