I was borderline quitting before that as the guild I was in was falling apart among other things. For the bland generic world it was in, Rift has some incredible features and devs that actually knew what they were doing. It was refreshing, and makes so much difference.

There were many things that Trion delivered with Rift which should have set an industry standard as far as quality goes. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and instead it seems to be little more than an anomaly based on MMOs that launched after it.

It always seems like the different mmo's are just trying to play catch-up with each other, cherry-picking popular features from competitors and attempting to copy them, but never quite getting it right. Rift did that too, of course, like with the cross-realm dungeon finder for example, but also had their own cool systems like artifact hunting, instant adventures, dynamic events, dimensions, etc. Plus Rift still has the best wardrobe/costume system in any MMO to date. WoW's transmog crap can't even come close. These are the kinds of things I hope for and half-expect out of new MMO's, Wildstar included. If a game like Wildstar can pull off half the poo poo Rift did, it will be a great game. Edit: gently caress, I just hopped in on the Rift forums and they haven't slowed down at all. I am going to risk the sacred bond of my NDA here by pointing out that in today's beta patch, the breast size of humans and aurin have been reduced from "bloody enormous" to merely "kinda big." There are now multiple threads, ironic and otherwise, bemoaning this gross injustice as Carbine bends under pressure from the Feminist Lobby. And also because Chua now wear underpants. I think I have now shattered every bone in my hand from punching the wall.

Yeah, this sounds like it could produce some absolutely magical internet drama.  Edit: I really wouldn't have minded if they'd gone with something else than disney princess syndrome for female bodies, even if it fits stylistically. I don't mind the cartoony look, but trying to play as someone who looks like Jessica Rabbit, while being surrounded by people who look like that too, honestly kind of made me uncomfortable. And as someone with large breasts IRL, I can never help but feel uncomfortable for the characters when I see them with the large breasts, weird standing animations, and stick waists that happen in so many games. And then watching any who use a longbow.. I did archery in HS. That poo poo can hurt.

I never understand why mmo players get so defensive about stuff like this 90% of the time your cameras behind your character so they can't even look at the virtual boobs. Overall, I just don't see it as a big deal regardless of which side of the fence one stands. I think the people who complain about unnatural looking body parts or certain styles of clothing are just as petty and dumb as those who go apeshit whenever a design decision is made to scale things down a bit or lengthen a skirt or whatever. I understand one's desire for a variety of appearances to choose from as well as having an assortment of individual preferences but that in itself is a very simple concept and that is where it should end. The people who try to frame this as some sort of important social debate drive me nuts. At the same time, reading people's spergy posts is pretty entertaining in small doses. As someone said, you really cant see how bad it is from the pictures. I didnt really have that much of an opinion on the subject until I went in game and tried to make a female character. I cycled trough all of them and was "Welp this is horrible" and then I went in game and saw a bunch of them taking pictures of themselves with their breasts flopping out in the dumbest way possible and I felt the need to roll chua. Seriously, this is the first MMO I've played where I'll probably not roll a female character if I do get it. I've been playing MMOs with mostly female avatars since 2004.
