I happened to be listening to another early 90's one hit wonder when I came across this and man, I'd be thrilled if Todd does an episode on Informer by Snow. Or Steal My Sunshine by Len. Or Around The World by ATC.

Not my favourite One Hit Wonderland of his but then again, the material he's covering isn't very interesting to begin with so there's not that much you can say about it.

So not exactly a review, but Fading Hearts, Jay O's "The Room of Visual Novels", just got released on Steam.

Oh, watching the edited version of that was just magical. I almost want to play it to see just how far the game does up its own rear end, but the gameplay looks absolutely dreadful. Jay O, I watched the follow-up stream you did for it the week after and... I'm sorry, I couldn't stick it through, the game was just so terrible. I salute your effort to give it a fair crack though.

Is there any chance of maybe seeing an edited version of the week two stream for Fading Hearts, or has that ship long since sailed?

Chiming in for an edited version. That's a wonderful little piece of insanity I would love to share with others who don't want to sit down and watch the full thing.

Tragically, the Steam version is reportedly fixed up with revised grammar and writing. I haven't confirmed this myself, but I think this is the case.

I know for sure at least that he had the MS Paint monsters re-drawn completely.

They don't look GOOD, but they're not bad enough to be funny anymore.

But the terrible story and underlying awfulness is all still there! ...it's not what it once was if it was finally proofread and un-MS Paint-ed though.

Let's be honest here, Steam reviews are horrible 9 times out of 10 anyway, the gamers.txt thread proved that a long time ago.

I hope Todd does another Top 10 of a random year again, I hope it's from the 90's too, such fertile ground there.

Agreed, but I think he's saving that for a rainy day precisely because it's both really fertile ground for a top 10 and because it's like a nostalgia spinal tap for his primary demographic.

I actually think early 90's, 91 or 92 would be more interesting than mid 90's just to see that awful period where we had the dying gasps of lovely 80's cheese and the first cries of garbage 90's pop as well.

yeah, I'm surprised that he's doing more of these...songs like "you light up my life" and "walking in Memphis", which..can't have had that much of a cultural impact, and/or I've never even heard of, when he could be doing really dramatic/over the top songs that absolutely everyone on the planet knows. Although I know that's my opinion, and doing the less interesting hits is probably also necessary, plus you probably want to space out the big ones.

Marc Cohn actually won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1991 on the strength of that song.

For the longest time, I had no idea who actually sang "Walking In Memphis" and just assumed it was Michael Bolton. It's been covered by Cher, of course, who also covered a couple of Michael Bolton songs or performed songs he wrote ("I Found Someone", "You Wouldn't Know Love", "Emotional Fire", probably some others I've forgotten).

His background, initially anyway, was more along the lines of country and such. So songs like "You Light Up My Life" and "Walking In Memphis" aren't so unusual for him to cover with that in mind. That said, there was so little to be said of Marc Cohn that I'm surprised that he decided to dedicate an episode to it. Todd had some clever bits throughout, but it seemed to be more prop up the subject than to enhance it; especially when a good chunk of the review is talking about things other than the artist or the song.

Any one of the artists in the opening montage would've made a more interesting subject for him to cover (I wouldn't consider Men At Work a one-hit wonder, but that's just me). A good episode, but would've been made better with an artist with more depth.

I LOATHE that Cher cover. It's clear she's just belting it out off a lyric sheet in front of her. Cohn's version, polished and whitebread as it is, has real passion in it, understanding of the feeling he's writing about. But Todd's right, dude REALLY wanted to be James Taylor.

I love One Hit Wonderland, but yeah that wasn't the most interesting episode. Though I did finally find out who sang Walking In Memphis, a song I've heard hundreds of times in stores and poo poo but never knew who sang it. So there's that I guess.

I imagine Todd went into the research for this half expecting something like The Proclaimers, who had a song that makes them sound kinda uninteresting but who were actually a really fascinating band to learn about. Can't win them all I guess.

That's a pretty insane genre. I watched one where a lady was kidnapped, forced to watch her own funeral, formed a motherly relationship with a fellow kidnapee, tried to escape, watched her new friend shot to death in front of her, and then killed her kidnapper. Then it turned out to all be an elaborate intervention on her by her husband which she only discovered after threatening her best friend/assistant(Tia Carrere) who she thought orchestrated the whole thing to have an affair with blond protagonist's husband. In the end she thanked her husband for the severe emotional trauma and decided it was just how much he loved her. Because it helped her quit booze and come to terms with her son's death. Win Win.

Some of you might remember that I wrote a book on bad movies (So Bad, It's Good). I'm working on a sequel that features contributions from a couple people who have posted in this here thread, and while I'll be sure to plug that more when the Kickstarter goes up, I bring it up now only because I just recently finished the first draft of an entry for a Lifetime/Asylum co-production called Social Nightmare. It's the story of a high school girl who has it all, until someone starts hacking her social media account and posting mean things about other people. Since we're talking about Lifetime movies, I threw it up as a "preview" of the upcoming book on my site. I mean, it's The Asylum making a movie for the Lifetime Network -- how can you go wrong? Or right?

Mother, May I Sleep with Danger is a movie that could have lived on that title alone, but it was pretty hilarious in execution, too.

That would be Cyber Seduction: His Secret Life! My favorite part of that one is that (before the kid clearly has a problem later in the film) the dad's reaction to mom finding out that their son looks at porn is "umm...you do know he's a teenage boy, right?" There's also a weird subplot about a cam girl who turns out to be insane or something.
