Endorph posted:Sorry about the piracy accusation, that was a bit harsh, but I just don't get what you mean by 'not the same quality.' The game doesn't lag at all save for like two instances (and the same could be said of the original) and it works fine. You can accuse it of being a lazy port, but it's not an *incompetent* one. The big sticking point is the frame rate, which was 60 on the Gamecube and 30 on PS2, and they ported the PS2 version. I've never cared about FPS, but people swear by it.

It's night and day for me, 60 just looks so much more fluid than 30. I mean, 30 isn't unplayable or anything, but I'm pretty sure that with just a little bit of effort they could have made the PS3 version run at a solid 60 too. Hell, Vesperia runs at a fairly solid 60 at 1280x720 in battles on the PS3, and that is much more graphically intensive than Symphonia. It's just lazy.

If you can't tell the difference between 30 vs 60 FPS your eyes are scientifically broken. Besides, we should expect better as a consumer on newer hardware.

I don't really notice a difference, but I played Symphonia about six years ago on the Gamecube, so I'm not really the best judge. The only reason to buy the PS3 version is if you don't have access to the game otherwise. I don't anymore, so that's why I bought it, and I'm reasonably satisfied with it. Dawn of the New World isn't great, but I don't have as much problems with it as most do, and I still think the Skits are only beaten by Graces in terms of quality, so there's that.

Endorph posted:Having played the gamecube ToS relatively recently, and booting it up just to make sure, I haven't really noticed a difference at all. Do people actually notice a difference between 30 and 60? I can tell the difference if I'm looking at them side by side, but I wouldn't have known Symphonia HD was 30 FPS if the thread hadn't told me, and frankly I don't really care, so long as the framerate is stable (which it is, aside from one room in the Remote Island Ranch so far). Saying the port is unacceptable is a little ridiculous.

Didn't Symphonia HD randomly change Abyssion's hair to yellow? You can beat up a super saiyan, that's totally worth the price of admission right there.

Symphonia 2 isn't bad if you treat it solely as a monster raising sim. I genuinely enjoyed that part of it. Of course you do need Marta or Emil in your party at all times and monsters can't use items (which sucks) but having your little ghost teddy bear or fuckoff dragon murder people is fun. Everything else is awful though. Especially the voice acting.

If you mean Spanish as in imported from Spain, the game should be in English too (you don't even have to select the language in the options as long as your PS3 is in English). Also, even if the game was only in Spanish, the voices would still be in English, so it wouldn't be as much of a problem. I'm Spanish, my copy of the game is from UK and it's in Spanish on my PS3, so a Spanish copy should be in English on yours.

So apparently the pause glitch with Red Light Blue Light was only altered to the point where you can't pause the minigame unless the Katz is looking at you, you can still squeeze out a step or two occasionally but sometimes the game won't send you back until after you exit out of the prompt. I wouldn't bother if it weren't for the title and weapon, not that I'm going to be able to keep it after I beat the game but whatever gotta finish that Collector's Book.

Pardon me if this is a stupid question but is there any sort of pattern to the slots in Altamira? Like is there a pattern in which it goes to the mode where it's all 7's and Gels? I know it involves hitting a BAR or 777 causing the music to speed up but I've only had it go to the other mode like three times. I'm guessing it has nothing to do with a character's luck stat as I've had it go off on Sheena multiple times but I've never had it go off for Presea (Who has my highest luck stat.).

So is there any reason why Alvin wasn't the second main character instead of Jude? He's the most interesting character in the game. Pick two: a 15 year old do-gooder "doctor", personification of an ancient god, mercenary with splintered alleagences and a checkered past. I don't think I'll ever truly understand Japan...

Milla and Jude's relationship, and the way that their personalities complement each other by expanding their worldviews (science vs spirituality), are why they are the main characters. Plus they serve as a contrast for Muzet and Gaius. Also Alvin is just so poorly written. He has lots of personality, but, goddamn the writers had no clue what they were doing with him.

So Niflheim is going to have to be a second playthrough thing I take it, going through with a level 75 team wiped me out upon reaching floor 10. On the other hand, pretty much everything else is done, game's beat so I have clear data but I barely got any grade at all so I'm grinding that up so I can do a 2x EXP run next time while still keeping my Titles. So I decided to play DotNW, and other than the fantastic casting of JYB and Laura Bailey as the main characters and the graphics looking rather decent holy gently caress is everything else awful. Everything feels like its on a delay in battle, Artes have often just failed to activate, Free Run is slow and not very helpful, I got about an hour in and died to some knights. I don't think I'll be playing again, I hear from others that the control in the Wii version was solid and responsive so maybe they hosed something up in the port.

JYB being the main character is kind of ruined by the fact that he's a pathetic whiny bitch for 80% of his lines. Seriously, gently caress whoever wrote the dialogue for this game. It completely ruins what would be otherwise pretty solid Tales gameplay. The remake of the first one is pretty solid though. Does anyone know if there's a list of the new additions anywhere?

The Shortest Path posted:JYB being the main character is kind of ruined by the fact that he's a pathetic whiny bitch for 80% of his lines. I think the main problem is he's stuck with his Renton Thurston voice for normal Emil and he doesn't do his cool voice unless in battle. And on the topic of Symphonia 1's additions, the PS2 version added new costumes for each character that you get depending on your choice in the Flanoir scene (Except for Raine), though picking Zelos will also nab you Sheena's costume and picking Genis will nab you Presea's costume, Lloyd gets his with Kratos, A few new bosses were added to Niflheim which has been expanded to 20 floors, you now fight Hell Knight after Floor 5, followed by Shadow versions of Forcystus, Pronyma, and Magnius. on Floor 10, Living Armor's still at 15, and at 20 you fight Kratos, Yuan and Mithos, lastly the Casino works now, but its a bitch to actually win anything, so buy some chips and save your game, you'll need at least 150,000 to get Raine's costume. The PS3 version adds this stuff to the existing PS2 additions: -9 Cameo Costumes Lloyd: Guy (Abyss) Genis: Luke (Abyss) Colette: Rita (Vesperia) Raine: Pascal (Graces) Sheena: Judith (Vesperia) Zelos: Alvin (Xillia) Presea: Elize (Xillia) Regal: Malik (Graces) Kratos: Ludger (Xillia 2) Abyssion's been changed as well, his hair is now gold and he's immune to Unison Attacks after half his health is gone. Can still be cheesed if he's poisoned though. I might have missed something but that's pretty much everything I've seen.

No Alvin you cannot come with us! You are a bad man! "Well I'm coming along with you guys whether you want me to or not" no, Jude Milla just stab him and go away.
