It was pretty good, we got a solid hour and a bit of play time with a decent amount of back and forth around both sides of the map. We'll probably be doing more of these and I'll make sure to advertise them better in advance in future.

Speaking of changes to official maps, why isn't ctf_turbine changed to ctf_turbine_pro already? It still isn't that good, but the additional side passages and the changes to the vents near flag room make the map much more fun to play.

I remember there being some pro version of the fastlane map as well, that added some flank routes from second to last and some ledges to the middle point. That was fun as well.

If dustbowl 3.2 and 2fort have tought valve anything it's that people love tiny chokepoints and hate flanking and "fun to play" and will avoid it at all costs.

Yeah it was pretty decent. Would be good to have a few more full games to see where things start to choke because there didn't seem to be much on the newer blu side.

It's just good to know which bits work and don't before mirroring them over :)

Some of the new flanking routes seem a bit cramped. Especially the new stairways just before the hill leading to last point are really narrow and feel like total deathtraps if they are at all guarded.

This needs more testing, but some extra space around there wouldn't go amiss.

Yeah, that isn't too much of an issue, what I was fixing was the lack of a little extra flanking, not the space to be honest. I'll space some of the routes a little.

It honestly doesn't. In an absolutely ideal 1-in-1000 situation perhaps, when a soldier with 5 health would have found you 0.3 seconds before your un-jagged sentry would have been built then it will save you, but the majority of the time you will be killed for no reason other than the enemy being in the right place at the right time. If you want to build behind enemy lines, the Gunslinger is better because it lets you immediately replace your sentry with another, and it builds far quicker.

I love how the Jag/Southern Hospitality debate always emerges at some point in TF2 discussions. Really, either weapon doesn't really change your play style much if at all and played correctly the Engineer shouldn't be using his melee on anything but his buildings so the Jag is obviously the best wrench :smugdog:

Also the Australian Valve servers are back up! Filled with worse-than-bot players! With 180 ping! I actually couldn't hit a Pyro running straight at me as he seemed to have the Unreal Tournament Translocator equipped and kept warping forwards at me! Oh I never mind about winning or losing, I love playing hide-and-seek when my team loses. It's just the worst when almost all the all the players seem to be piloted by day one newbies connecting from the Moon, really :negative:

vvvv I've got about 33 kills on mine, it's hardly a "killing" weapon. More like the definitive gimmick "~chaos piero~" weapon and it totally sucks that the Strange variant doesn't count environmental kills (no doubt will be a Strange Part down the line :rolleye:)

It's useful for having a fire and forget chip-damage secondary with anything but the Degreaser. It can stall an uber push if you're lucky and make a 125hp class run for a health pack but really you're giving up a damaging secondary to goof around and annoy Snipers, Spies and the occasional Demoman.

Sentence-mixing is like rocket jumping. It's really hard to do "right", pubbies can't even touch the basics, you can get messy-but-passable versions with a little practice, and someone with LOTS of practice can do something amazing.
The choppy dialogue notwithstanding, remember that all of Dr. Face's stuff isn't made in SFM like everyone else. He shoots his videos frame-by-frame in Garry's Mod and then arranges and touches them up in an editing program. That's what gives his videos an old-style animation charm opposed to other TF2 videos' smoothed blandness.

You can't upgrade buildings, but it inflicts DOT for a while and also brands enemies so that they are shown as silhouettes for everyone in the team until the branded guy dies or runs back to spawn. Spies beware!

Also no random crits, of course.

I kind of like the idea of it being similar to the huntsman. Your friendly pyro can heat you up to red hot poker status and you deal more damage. On reconsideration this would probably be a very annoying feature that would certainly lead to many tears. Probably even heavy/medic tears if we just make the combo crit.

Edit- Ah gently caress I thought the sun on a stick just set you on fire (setting your pyro up for the axtinguisher); whoops.

I really wish I had more reasons to use the scottish resistance. When you can get set up it can be fantastic, but whenever I have it I find myself switching to it, throwing out some stickies and wondering why everyone isn't dead yet. Love that taunt, though. For gravelpit style maps? i.e. gpit and the map that shall not be named.

On a pub attacking B is better, people know A is easier to cap and tend to attack/defend it first because that's where the action starts. Who among RED is patient enough to faithfully guard the point that matters while everyone else is shooting dudes at A? If BLU goes all-in at B and RED isn't there in numbers it can be an easy cap on B. As always, A is trivial to cap. Capping A first just means RED no longer needs to split their attention.

Someone once told me, "Time is a flat circle".
The Scottish Resistance is moderately useful on defense on Badwater Payload. There are lots of areas where you can set blind traps and lock down some common paths of advance.

The problem is you lose a lot of the direct combat ability of the stock stickies. If your team has another demo or soldier going direct combat, the you can be useful to hold the flanks or act as a second line of defense.

The real advantage of the SR is that your traps are more sustainable since you can set clusters off separately. If you have the luxury of a bit of time to set up, then you can beat off multiple groups. Otherwise if you're being pushed and don't have traps up, you're at a disadvantage.

It's also good for MvM because of the greater number of stickies and multi-trap ability.

I wish Valve would make more weapon-specific MvM upgrades so you can reduce the arm time for Scottish Resistance stickies. The stock launcher is great for taking down tanks, especially since you usually don't have enough money to upgrade both your grenade launcher and your sticky launcher.
