That, and the fact there were no consequences for anything and nothing really happened by the end. There was nothing to hold onto or care about. Any main character who died would get brought back to life (except if Papa Legba was involved for some reason), and any character "in danger" of dying would have no impact because you knew it probably wouldn't be permanent. And at the end of the season it was just over, it never felt like it was coming to an end, and there was no build-up or release. It was like a season that contained only a middle part, with no beginning or end.

I still maintain that Coven would have been 100x better if it had ended with the house getting ransacked and all the witches burnt at the stake together by a crazy mob of normal people. I just wanted everyone to die at the end.

Coven was trash TV with a poo poo story, horrible acting, and terrible shots of Stevie Nicks spinning in circles. It was the highest rated of the three because AHS picked up a ton of steam from the first two seasons. People got attached to the surface value substance of Coven. They could watch it episode to episode without really missing out on anything that had to do with the storyline. Everything was gore, guts, and softcore porn. I remember last year I said I hated the campiness and someone in this thread accused me of being a homophobe. That's how bad Coven was.

Doltos posted:Coven was trash TV with a poo poo story, horrible acting, and terrible shots of Stevie Nicks spinning in circles. If not for so many people here reporting friends and feeds that love the show unironically I'd assume they were all in my boat: Jumping on the show because of Asylum, giving it chance until halfway in, then riding the train wreck to the end to see if ANYTHING ever amounts to poo poo. [Spoiler: It doesn't.] Also the show honestly doesn't deserve the title of camp, anyway. Evil Dead 2 to me is camp. This was.. gently caress if I know what this was. This was "Spin the wheel of randomness to introduce plot threads or character traits, then pound enough booze & coke that we forget what we wrote yesterday" writing. QuickbreathFinisher posted:I just wanted everyone to die at the end. No kidding. I honestly hoped that vision near the end of the show with all the bodies slung around in creative ways would take place and that the series would end PRECISELY like that. It would have been the only redemption they could have. Instead they decide to loop back to the X-Men vibe they had at the start (Slightly before it went into "What the gently caress" land it really was "Xavier's school for witches") and then "open their doors to anyone who is a witch" on public TV... don't even get me started on the horrendously poo poo job they did at universe building. It takes some serious dumb as poo poo writing to put massive plot holes in your unseen universe backdrop, but by God, Coven did it. ED: I will never understand the scrawny AV guys dressed in suits with funky soundtrack music that showed up for.. things. ED2: Oh yeah. I will forever hold that the witch hunter plot started because one guy on the writing staff was a big World of Darkness fan, then two episodes later someone said "I don't like this!" and wrote them out by having them all gleefully walk into.. not even an ambush as much as "are you really stupid enough to do that?" Double bonus points for the fact that they wrote out the whole husband/baby plot so abruptly that his wife didn't even know the connection for an episode or two. Coven only "owned" if the only thing you get out of watching television is staring at movement and colors and pretty images, and you like chuckling when someone says a thing that references something you know ("Oh my god Stevie Nicks! I've heard of her!"). It had isolated moments that I liked. I liked any moment that Kathy Bates was onscreen, and Frances Conroy and Lily Rabe. That's about it.

There's a reason for that. Fun bit of trivia: A lot of really good intros on TV and film were made by a single guy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_Cooper He runs a company that does NOTHING but churn out slick title sequences for movies and TV. For example, he's done all The Walking Dead intros, too. I think one of his first projects was all the creepy credit imagery in Se7en. For whatever it's worth, I'm sure Freak Show will have an awesome intro. This guy rarely disappoints, which is largely why he's successful in such a ridiculously niche business. He also seems to have had a far better idea of what "Horror, witches, and New Orleans" should resemble than the actual show runners. ED: And games. Didn't realize he also did games. TV has to be the best contracts for him, because he gets to do new stuff every year for each show he's got signed on, though from the looks, he's done nearly every modern MGS game. Yeah I was responding to someone who asked who was boosting this shows ratings in S3, and I mentioned more than just gay people as the target demographic for S3. The different styles between Asylum and Coven should have made it obvious that yes, Ryan Murphy wished to bring in more viewers from different demographics. It shouldn't be a negative thing that Ryan Murphy wanted to cater to more people by changing up how the show was shot, just that what Murphy produced was trash. I spent a ton of posts criticizing the work directly in all manner of reasons, that was just a post responding to a specific question that people jumped all over. It wasn't really a big plot point during the season, not as much as you'd might think anyway. It was really almost an afterthought when they introduced the witch war and then the witch hunters (both of which fizzled out just as quick.)
