Nope. Missed it when they came through my neck of the woods, but that new Ringworm release is drat fine! I wouldn't even consider myself a hardcore fan either. Hammer of the Witch sounds more like Napalm Death's most recent releases.

I think it's decent, but not as good as "Birth is Pain," which is the only other Ringworm album I've heard.

So I bought tickets for that Sleep show in Chicago, now I can't go because some work travel came up.

Would anyone want to buy my tickets? $20 each. That's $10 cheaper per ticket than buying them from the venue.

That show is sold out, I don't think you have to take a loss on them. Anyone should be happy to get them at face value if they waited this long.

I know a few of you were into my old band HUGENELK, so here's a bit of news on that front: Alex and Steve started a new band called Hashteroid with our buddy Mike on bass. They sound a bit NELKish, but with a faster, more punk rock kind of feel. No recordings yet, but here's a video of one of their first shows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06E1_0ddjSY

It tends toward the psychedelic/rock and fits in with the recent albums pretty well. I like it a lot, but it's hard for the band to do wrong by me.

Earth definitely still belongs in this thread.

They're a band who've tried a lot of different stuff over the years but I don't think there's any of it I haven't liked. Sonar and Depth Charge is pushing it a bit maybe.

This is pretty pretty perfect.

Also the Pitchfork music player doesn't let me just start in the middle of the song like you can do with most other websites. That's a uncharitable habit of mine when previewing new music. Drop it in the middle, play 10 seconds of a song, booo.... next
Am I the only douche one that does that?

I do that somewhat, but to be fair, we're in a thread where an intro to a bad song could be a fine 5 minutes of feedback that just segues into a let-down.

That's me! I thought about adding them for a while, but I wasn't sure because apparently they don't like being categorized as a sludge band. I think they fit in fine, they have that raw edge to them and their attitude is very sludgey, even if the music is not.
I might as well thank you for adding Earthless. I bought their new cd immediately and now going through their older stuff. A perfect jam for the summer, especially when you are cruising around.
And that new Earth track is nice. Funny how much more fresh they sound with a vocalist.

I don't exactly listen to psyche all the time but God, I could listen to Earthless forever. One of the biggest bands on my "haven't seen live yet" list - they did Roadburn the year before I started going yearly, so I really hope they come around again soon.

Also that Earth track blew me away. Way better than I was expecting, and that's saying something. Sucks that the LP is still 3 months away.

Yeah, I've listened to it several times now and it keeps getting better. The singer's main band Rose Windows has an album out and while it's not Earth (and not doom) it's not bad either, maybe it will help tide you over until Primitive & Deadly comes out:

Also I realised that while Earth are one of my favourite bands I actually never got around to listening to Hex or Angels II, so I've still got that to look forward to.

There's vocals on like one song on Pentastar and two on the Sunn Amps & Smashed Guitars compilation. Even if one of those vocal performances is Kurt Cobain, when I think of when I think of Earth is BWOOOM, followed by a whole bunch of bluesy instrumental drone rock. Vast majority of their output over twenty years has been instrumental and if this whole album has vocals, it will be a first in that sense.

I went through it once and I think they have lost me now. They are in this weird phase where they clearly want to play straightforward poppy hard rock but try to add their "weird" and surprising little twists in there but it doesn't sound that natural to me anymore.
Their songs have always been quite straightforward (outside of few songs) to me but it was a schizophrenic kind of straightforward which made it interesting. Now it is just a collection of random 4 minute rock radio songs that meander along aimlessly.
I hate that I've become that "their older stuff was better" whiner, since I try to be open-minded and all that, but the new stuff just bores me.

It happens. Sometimes bands just move away from the things that they did that we liked. I loved Remission and Leviathan. Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye were still fun, solid albums for me, but that's all I'll ever put on.

(I will, however still listen to Lethargy and the TDITD stuff with Brann and Brent:
