Taken to the limits imposed by physical laws, it is not known that information-theoretic death ever occurs. Physical information is not known to be destroyed, except by the controversial black hole information paradox; and as such, resuscitation is not specifically ruled out by the laws of physics, unless information critical to that resuscitation passes beyond the event horizon of a black hole.

I guarantee those huge mining operations are a Rube Goldberg way to convert Chinese currency to electricity to bitcoins to sell in another country for actual money, thus evading currency controls. This is in response to the crackdown on Chinese exchanges.

meanwhile in bitcoin land Huobi Passes Proof-Of-Solvency Audit (103.52% Reserve Ratio) (self.Bitcoin) submitted 9 hours ago by Huobi The audit was conducted by Stefan Thomas, the world's most experienced auditor of bitcoin exchanges, on August 28, 2014. See his full report here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=760876.0 Users can find instructions on how to confirm that your account balance was included in the audit by logging in to Huobi, going to the Finance tab on the top, and then clicking the Asset Audit button on the left side. We understand that this kind of audit is not infallible, so Huobi will be taking further steps in the future to ensure even greater transparency and security for users. [–]Sherlockcoin 8 points 7 hours ago What do you mean by 103.52%? What happened? They found another 3 % under the couch!? [–]Shibinator 17 points 7 hours ago Hoping someone who actually knows will reply, but I guess maybe they have some of their profits stored as 'reserves' in case something goes wrong. [–]Huobi[S] 11 points 7 hours ago That is essentially correct. The amount of BTC demonstrated by Huobi as being in its possession during the audit exceeded the sum of all user BTC account balances by 3.52 percent. Users can check whether their account balance was included in the audit by following the instructions on the site. [–]tophernator 12 points 3 hours ago Just a bit of constructive criticism: this probably isn't the way to do it. Customer deposits, whether bitcoin or fiat, should be ring-fenced separately from operating funds. So an audit like this should show 100% exactly. Of course the important thing is that you've got the funds covered. But by lumping together business funds and customer funds implies that you treat them the same way and could therefore dip into customer funds to pay for expenses. [–]Huobi[S] 8 points 2 hours ago Thank you, that is a good point. We will work to refine and standardize the audit procedure in the future. This was the first time, so the primary goal was just to put to rest any doubts above overall solvency. [–]coelomate -1 points an hour ago As tophernator pointed out in a comment above, this result is extremely disturbing. Co-mingling client funds and business profits/operating funds is terrible for a number of reasons, and is the only way a greater than 100% reserve would be possible. This is like, financial institutions 101. We're not even talking about regulations requiring things like that, we're talking about all of the prudential reasons why it's a terrible idea. Being completely ignorant of that reality, and bragging about it... actually scares the poo poo out of me. [–]Hodldown 0 points 55 minutes ago Why would anyone anywhere think this was good news? Like unless your 9 the message you should get out of this is "holy poo poo the people acting like a bank can't even balance their own books and have found that for every 100 dollars they have they don't know where 3 of them came from. " Not "oh good, they magically have extra money, more resolves = better"

[–]herzmeister 14 points an hour ago indeed, the synchronicity with this Ice Bucket Challenge thing is staggering, from a metaphysical perspective it's almost as if the whole world is acknowledging him and celebrating his pass-over with a ritual. [–]crimdelacrim 10 points an hour ago He's just been put into cold storage. [–]mrchaddavis 12 points 57 minutes ago I never spoke with him and certainly can't speak for him, but after lurking and reading post of his over the past decade or so, I am of the opinion that he would appreciate OPs post. [–]hawks5999[S] 3 points 22 minutes ago The good news is, hopefully one day, we'll know what he thinks about it.
