This is mutiny!
The "best" shuttles are ones that are kept cheap, generally. The base shuttle is a space cow, but it's a cow with 3 attack and 10 HP for the same cost as an X-Wing. Lots of people run it with Vader and maybe 1-2 other cheap upgrades to keep it around 30 or less points and seem to do well. Just make sure it's supported by ships that can get other ships off it's rear end, because it's not very agile. The national champ just used a naked Yorr to buff up a couple elite pilots by eating stress off them. I've also seen them run with Engine Upgrade to give it a bit more speed and turning ability and upgrades like Tactician or Rebel Captive. Anti-Pursuit is pretty good if you're running a low-PS shuttle so it moves first and then lets people run into it. The higher skill pilots like Jendon at 6 are often going to move after a bunch of ships and then there's no one left to run into it and trigger the lasers.

I think ST-321 is a bit of a trap, because you can generally find people within range 3 of a shuttle pretty easily, and you don't want to have a ship hanging out far away unable to do anything but hand out a target lock each turn.

ST-321 kind of works with the Lamba/Vessery combo because you aren't really getting the lock for the shuttle but more to provide it to Vessery instead. It just means that you don't have to worry about the positioning of the Lambda in order to give Vessery the free lock and you can use it to attack people that might otherwise purposefully avoid the shuttle (which isn't hard).

Cheers, both those are useful; the APS is useless, certainly, and I'm very aware that it's worth keeping the shuttle low-cost. But I like the idea of the FCS synergy, I'll give that a go.

I've got a buddy who runs the shuttle with an HLC, Gunner, and Weapons Engineer. You can't use the Gunner with the HLC, but you can spend a TL to try and make things better (or not, if you don't feel like it/want Gunner to trigger anyway), and then if it misses you can take a second, equally TL'd shot with Gunner on a different target. This gives you two potential four-dice TL'd attacks every turn, provided the first misses (and if it didn't, good job).

Alternate set-up includes Gunner and Darth Vader. Gets expensive, but you can potentially Doomshuttle twice per round, which is deadly against unshielded targets or be really good at mauling phantoms because drat if they aren't fragile.

Nien Numb arguably makes it worth it, too. That few defense dice means you're not missing much, and having a guaranteed unblockable crit (in addition to any others rolled) is nice.

I don't know about good, but it's usable. It's a high cost to pay for sometimes-one crit. You can't use the focus for defense, and it's a whopping 3 points. It's better going against Imperial lists, because they take crits a lot earlier, but against Rebels it's not worth it until late, and by then the person who has it could easily be dead.

I think Marksmanship should be taken in the context of it's time, which is Wave 1. It's getting that sick crit against a TIE Fighter early at the expense of defense, which at the time might've been a valid tradeoff. These days you'd just take Push the Limit, which gives you more flexibility because you can TL + Focus for attack or defense.

e: Obviously some people might not have PtL or want to give their ship a stress for a variety of reasons.

Han with Gunner is the classic Marksmanship setup. It's still a steep price at 3 points, but in the gunner scenario it's better than PtL which makes you take a stress, same price as Recon Specialist and let's not even get started with Expose.

Yeah, this. Experimental Interface will also breathe some life into it, but it's a card that is worth taking on a number of pilots and that's completely fine.

Suffer not the unclean to live.
Just played a game using Krassis Trelix w/ Heavy Laser Cannon, seemed to work quite well together.

I recently picked up the Imperial Aces box (because I love TIE Interceptors), and was wanting to get some kind of 3 or 4 Interceptor list together. Don't have much else to accompany them though, just some Wave 1 and 2 ships. It seems to me that the high pilot skill guys are necessary to keep your dudes from getting blown away or outmaneuvered, and at that point the low amount of damage I'd be able to take from having 4 ships with only 3 hull points each just doesn't sit well with me at all. Any thoughts?

Also, having nothing else but the first two wave ships and a Z-95, I can't figure out ANYTHING to do with the HWK I just picked up either.

I took 4 Tie-ins with Royal Guard Pilots and Push the Limit to a local tournament and went 3-0, lost no ships in two of those games. Higher skill pilots in the final gave me my toughest game, (won by 4 points) but they're not unbeatable. I would be pretty nervous about fighting that double Falcon list somebody mentioned earlier, though.

Played a few games yesterday. Game 1 I brought a naked FS-31, Defender, and 4 Academy Pilots, against my opponents Luke, Ten Numb, and lovely A-Wing pilot. He lost pretty handily (my opponent hates B-Wings). After that my opponent dropped his B-Wing for an E-Wing and I lost both after that. I didn't get to use my Phantom which probably would have been a lot better than my Defender, but it's definitely a learning experience (my second two games also involved upgrading the poo poo out of my FS-31, which didn't seem worth it). A-Wings with the Stealth modification are ridiculously good.

Did a couple of games and got to try a couple of lists that I have been meaning to try.

First game was:
Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
ST-321 (3)

Colonel Vessery (35)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Academy Pilot (12)

Academy Pilot (12)

Total: 98

It went against (iirc) a Soontir with PtL (might have had something else), a naked Bounty Hunter and Echo with VI and ACD. I only lost a single TIE, with the shuttle taking no damage and the defender going into shields, after I managed to get a lucky shot on Soontir and then took down Echo using the Defender by bumping him with the shuttle/remaining TIE Fighter. I was impressed by the synergy between the shuttle and Vessery and I'm getting to like Defenders quite a lot now.

Second game I went for a crazy list (I use a proxy for the YT-2400 because I don't have it yet):

"Leebo" (34)
Push the Limit (3)
Autoblaster (5)
Nien Nunb (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Outrider (5)

Corran Horn (35)
Marksmanship (3)
Fire-Control System (2)
R2-D2 (4)
Shield Upgrade (4)

Total: 100

This went against 3 Academy TIEs, Dark Curse and Krassis with HLC and I can't remember the EPT. Leebo got stuck in and managed to destroy one TIE with the autoblaster and damage another, but then I flew him in an asteroid and he died without being able to fire back. By this time Corran had gone down to 1 shield but had managed to finish off another TIE, leaving the situation at Dark Curse (undamaged), a damaged Academy and Krassis (undamaged). After managing to take out the Academy and gaining back his shield thanks to R2-D2, Krassis ended up on an asteroid after a turn, which allowed Corran to get a range 1 double-shot using marmanship, getting the Firespray down to 2 hull. Some more jostling occurred and Corran was able to take down the Firespray, which just left Dark Curse who eventually went down as well.

I still liked the Autoblaster 2400 but it has its limitations and it is a lot of points for something that is only slightly survivable. I was really impressed by Corran though, he really pulled his weight.

The actual lists he flew against:

First game:

Soontir Fel (27)
Push the Limit (3)
Targeting Computer (2)
Echo (30)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Advanced Cloaking Device (4)
Bounty Hunter (33)

Second game:

Krassis Trelix (36)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Mercenary Copilot (2)
Dark Curse (16)
Academy Pilot (12)
Academy Pilot (12)
Academy Pilot (12)

I still don't like/am not convinced by Soontir; he's too many points for something that's too fragile - a single shot can kill him or make him completely useless if you're just unlucky with the dice (death to dice, incidentally; people should stop making games that use them :v:).

I'll be flying the 4x RG PtL list next time, in my quest to justify taking Interceptors over just cramming more TIEs in instead (spoiler: I will never be able to justify this).

In a way, I'm glad I managed to avoid Dungeon Command since it seems to have died rather uneventfully, but a minis game with no dice where losing units didn't cause a snowballing loss of power sure was pretty attractive.

http://www.makeplayingcards.com/design/tuckbox-for-mini-playing-cards.html

If you're using FFG mini sleeves you'll need to trim 1-2mm off the height of the sleeves to make them fit in these tuckboxes, but they perform perfectly when it comes to keeping the mini cards all sorted. Turns out 5 mini tuckboxes is pretty much the same size as an Ultra-Pro cheapo deck box too, so that all works. I still haven't found a 3 ring binder page that will fit 41mmx63mm cards in their sleeves but having used these tuckboxes I'm not sure I'd want to. Pilots, maybe.

I will note that the website above charges a minimum of like 6 dollars shipping, so if you really want a deal on your tuckboxes (they're like 30 cents apiece) you might consider a split at your FLGS if multiple people are annoyed with the cards and are willing to spend a few bucks to solve the problem.

So! After finally finding an A- and B-Wing at a local Barnes & Noble (thank you all for suggesting there; no idea why B&N has better selection than my FLGS, but *shrug*), I got in a couple interesting games with my brother today. Our lists:

4x Tie Academy Pilots
2x Tie Phantoms, 1 w/Fire Control Systems

1x X-Wing Red Squadron Pilot
1x B-Wing Blue Squadron Pilot
1x A-Wing Arvel Cyynyd
1x X-Wing Luke Skywalker w/R2-D2

We hot-swapped between games to both play both lists, and I won both times (excellent...). Any general thoughts on these lists? I know they're incredibly basic, selection-limited starter lists, but they both seemed to perform well and do what they were supposed to. If we brought these to a local tournament, would we be laughed out of the room? Thank you!
