Aw hunny, these came out GREAT!
We've made it through the long hot offseason, it's September, the first week of college football is behind us, and real NFL games that matter are mere days away.

The defending superbowl champion Seattle Seahawks kick off the season this Thursday, hosting the Green Bay Packers. The rest of the week 1 slate will take place Sunday as per normal, and the annual MNF Double Header to cap off week 1.

Current news topics:

-The 49ers are apparently all evil thugs and Harbaugh is the ringleader
-Michael Sam was released and apparently won't make the practice squad in St. Louis.
-The Chiefs locked up Alex Smith for four more years. I am sorry Parm.
-gently caress Roger Goodell
-Bortles

Football :)

literally any team in the league would do well to have him at least on their practice squad and he's probably backup quality for (at minimum) a solid half of teams and starter-level for a handful too. especially for rookie-contract cost, and the fact that he will only get better from here under a good coach + assistants regime

so this is loving ridiculous

It's only been a day since he's cleared waivers, I'm fairly sure he'll get signed to someone's practice squad. It isn't like he's been out there waiting for a month

i hope so, i would love for my cynicism to prove dumb as hell. rams are loaded, I get that, but not being claimed on waivers when there are certainly teams for which he'd be an upgrade (and a cheap one at that) is not a positive. though i get that a team who hasn't seen him play would like to see him work in their scheme in practice before committing to a contract so i'm probably being too kneejerk right now

Claiming him off of waivers means that he'd be immediately signed to a 53 man roster though, and it's probably hard for a team to do that for an undersized rookie specialist who doesn't know any system other than St. Louis'.

I think it's just more of a practical thing than a cynical thing

edit: I cant wait to see Orton play for the Bills, dropping bombs to Watkins. I hope Watkins sits out a few weeks to heal his ribs up, long enough for Manuel to get benched/Orton to learn the playbook. Then Watkins and Orton march onto the field and own everything.

There's technically not a deadline since they can rotate players on the squad most of the season.

Doesn't look like they are official, but looks like they have five players decided based on http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-practice-squad-signings-20140831-story.html

Cornerback Al Louis-Jean, Wide receiver Josh Bellamy, center Taylor Boggs, guard Ryan Groy and linebacker DeDe Lattimore.

I reckon watch a few games a get a feel for all the teams, you'll probably develop a few crushes and eventually settle on one. I started supporting the Cowboys because as a little kid in Australia I always liked the North Queensland Cowboys and I needed a team for Madden 05. Only later did I realise what a terrible mistake I had made..
