I don't think I have enough appendages to count the total number of closed loops you can make in his family tree when you bring in the possibility of combining smaller ones. 5. He consists about half of the article on pedigree collapse, which is pretty relevant to this chat.

Supper was calling and I didn't have time to search out Charles' II family I also wondered if there were political cartoons in that period. Silly me, of course there were! There's probably cave paintings in Lascaux ridiculing the hunt leader for farting during the stalk and spooking the prey.

achillesforever6 posted:Ben Affleck was on Bill Maher's show and had the audacity to call him out on being Islamophobic bigot. This is correct. While Europe was having some trouble in that sketchy period between the fall of the Roman Empire and the Rennaissance, Muslim societies were making huge scientific and cultural strides, bringing wonders like regular bathing and algebra to the world. Every society has made major contributions to science, art, literature and infrastructure. If you see a group of people currently in a bad way in terms of stability and development, it is a pretty safe bet that it's not because X Group is intrinsically barbarous or otherwise deficient, it's because they were on the losing side of an exchange with a greater power.

Now, and I don't say this often, to be fair to Bill Maher that wasn't what he said. He never said they had nothing good in their history, just that in their present state their views are "worse" than western views. He made way to many sweeping statements for me to want to defend him, but he never said anything close to saying they are intrinsically barbarous as compared to other people. He was stressing how they currently treat religious minorities, how they currently treat those who leave Islam, how they currently treat women, etc. He made the mistake of lumping 1.5 billion people into a single group and giving them Arab characteristics rather than Asian like the majority are, but that's different than what you're accusing him of.
