if we're talking about good scifi and not best scifi now... Paycheck was pretty good and the only movie with Ben Affleck that I don't hate. Code 46 was good, it's got that gattaca vibe, but with Tim Robbins and incest. Metropia was good, I think the whole thing was made with adobe aftereffects or something, it has a 1984 vibe with a really weird animation style. Most people disagree, but I thought Pandorum was great. It's mindless popcorn scifi/horror, somewhere between alien and a zombie flick, plus a lot of the movie is about Dennis Quaid trying to start a reactor.

finished Cloud Atlas i cant say it is a bad movie its a wonderful tale of justice conquering greed freedom overthrowing the established order the downtrodden prevailing over the corrupt establishment and other stupid poo poo that doesn't actually happen irl its worth watching if you have 3 hours

Maybe so but I will have to give it a miss before I see Moon, Europa Report, Last Days on Mars, Mercury Rising, The Purge and its sequel, Heartless, The Last Circus, and a lot of other poo poo I have on a list somewhere agh too many movies

yeah moon was good. a couple of friends dragged me along to see it when it came out even though i didn't know anything about it and i'm glad they did the other good sf movie i've seen in a cinema in the past few years was gravity but that was good in a very different way. not much of a plot but what there was of it didn't get in the way of the spectacle. watch it if you like space movies and/or disaster movies. if you know someone with a home theatre projector go around to their place to see it because it gains a lot from being seen on a huge screen edge of tomorrow was okay i guess, i felt like it started out strong but was kinda pulling plot twists out of its rear end toward the end don't watch lucy. it is a bad movie. i thought it would at least be good at being a dumb action movie because luc besson but it didn't even manage that, by about halfway through the protagonist is established as effectively invincible and omnipotent and all the tension drains right out of the film

If you like Sam Rockwell you should also watch Choke, The Way Way Back, Seven Psychopaths, Better Living Through Chemistry and of course Galaxy Quest. If Galaxy Quest wasn't from 1999 it'd be a contender for best sci fi in this thread.

Equilibrium was pretty goddamned stupid too, but it's one of those movies that are so stupid the stupid meter overflows and the movie becomes good instead. In other news, everyone who like actual good scifi movies instead of hemorrhoids like Snowpiercer, should watch The Machine. It is a good movie.
