i riced the gently caress out of my og imac

upgraded the vram on the lovely rear end rage iic to 6mb

then i maxxed the memory to what was it 128 or 256mb i dont remember

then i got a bigger hard drive

then i got a 4x usb cd burner for it that made one good cd every third try

then i got the voodoo 2 card for the mezzanine slot that was ONLY on the rev a and maybe b macs (8 meg v2, they didnt offer 16)

i think i got an even bigger hard drive around this time but i dont remember too good

then i swapped out the daughtercard with a 400mhz upgrade that may even have been a g4 i dont remember

but that made the fucker overheat so i duct taped a fan to the top of it like a goodamn idiot but amazingly it worked that that fucker was boss for q3 and unreal tourney i tell you what

then i put suse linux on it

then i put yellow dog linux on it

then i put osx on it

then i bought a g4 emac and pieced together a pc and the imac went into a spare bedroom for seven years until i threw it away

i probably spent like 1500 bucks upgrading a $1300 computer

and that brief period between ie getting really lovely on os x and safari being released when there were no good browsers on mac os at all? i used iCab

absolutely. when i find a good deal on one i'm gonna get it and strip out the electronics and put my pc inside the case cause it is just a super pro lookin case.

I was surprised last year to find out iCab still exists, I hadn't used it since the OS 8 days I think. It's available on the iPhone now.

bought a used LCIII once

all i ever did with it was boot to the //e emulation card to play Drol and Aztec and sometimes Repton

my //gs booted faster than my IIci because I had the OctoRAM card with 512K of static RAM for boot drive, 2 MB for regular RAM

GS/OS just barely fit into 512K had to trim lots of poo poo from it

still have an Extended Keyboard II NIB, never bought the ADB to USB converter

My LC did me good after I fried a modem by hot-installing it in an apple IIgs. We were able to sell my Apple IIgs to a retired teacher and her husband. I was dropped off at this house and had to install it.

Everything worked fine and she had all these floppies from her school. Nice people. It is unfortunate for them that my mom ripped them off.

6.07 with a card saying I will get System 7 for free, when it comes out.

why? every bit of vertical space is helpful but we have oceans of horizontal space:

plus you can get a hierarchy of tabs

Stand-alone spell checkers (RC). Here’s a quick roundup of spelling checker
programs:

Spelling Coach Professional ($200, Deneba) comes as close as any spelling checker to doing it all. Batch-check selections or let Coach Pro watch for errors while you type. A pop-up menu gives you options for correct spellings, and if none seems appropriate, you can ask for phonetic guesses. It includes a 95,000-word main spelling dictionary (about 90 percent with definitions) and legal, technical, and medical supplements. It also includes the terrific BigThesaurus (described in “Other Tools,” later in this chapter).

Spellswell ($75, Working Software) is more than a spelling checker but not quite a grammar checker. It catches things like incorrect capitalization, missing apostrophes, and double words. It also looks for “poor word choices,” explaining the difference between “among” and “between,” for instance; this was the first feature I turned off! Lookup ($40, Working Software) is a fast and elegant little interactive DA spelling checker. It checks a highlighted selection, but only one word at a time—a major limitation. For more power, use the program with its bigger companion checker Spellswell; it can share Spellswell’s 93,000-word dictionary, or use its own.
