It's just a little off-putting to juxtapose these really somber messages with a dumb fun video game event. Sucks the energy out of it, and they need all the energy they can get with this DKR marathon. Basically they need someone to be hyped about this, whether it's someone on the couch or the announcer.

I think their god-awful game choices this year sucked any fun at all out on its own. Who really wants to watch 100% runs of horribly boring N64 games?

Much like with everything else in life, the Euros seem to have more sense on how to do things in a fun atmosphere without sucking the soul out of the event.
They really need to boot this game from future marathons, it's ridiculously boring.

Diddy Kong Racing's Any% run is really really funny and a lot of fun to watch, one of those things where they just break the game over and over and over and make it do ridiculous poo poo and finish it pretty fast.

DKR 100% is a boring slog, it was a boring slog last time, and being a race is not making it less of a boring slog.

Bring back any%.

Banjo was supposed to be any% but the pal tv broke and the major skip requires a pal tv + console

DKR has been an extremely hype run in the past (toufool set a WR in it at sgdq13) and I think everyone expected this to be a really hype race given everyone involved. There's just no energy on the couch for it and I'm pretty sure none of them got the notice that they were supposed to watch a run/runs of it beforehand so they could actually talk about what was happening during the race

Which is a shame, since I love the game :( 2 hours of no commentary, 3 tiny screens and tonnes of cancer messages doesn't make for good viewing.

Unless the game can be completed in under 60-45min or something, was the Mega Man X calebhart / zero wing race last year a 100%? That was pretty good.

My paternal grandmother died from cancer but i don't think it really counts when you're pushing 80. If cancer doesn't get you at that point something else will.

They always seem to do this on day one. It's like day one is for super boring games for six hours (though not always the marathon starter) before they get to something cool (TAS bot coming up), while the last day is dedicated to boring JRPG's.

I work for a company that deals exclusively with senior citizens and it's honestly really loving depressing how many people in their 70s and 80s get cancer. I think it really does count considering how much poo poo you've probably dealt with through your life to get taken out by a disease so vile, slow and disfiguring.

MMX 100% doesn't slow the action down much because a lot of the time lost getting items is made back one-shotting bosses with the hadouken, which also increases entertainment value for some casual viewers who may not know that game well and not know about that secret. I think "is 100% entertaining/interesting in ways any% is not?" is a factor that should be considered since it obviously takes extra time.

The filtering is pretty bad sometimes, they actually have to leave a posted reminder on the table where the volunteers do it not to pass donations from Mike Hawk on.
