Is Hodgson reclamation-project bad or AHL-garbage bad? (can he play 3rd line minutes on a decent team, skate well, and win a face off?)

Hodgson is specifically a nightmare defensively so I really doubt that good teams would give him 3rd line C duty. Hard to say what's going to happen with him, though. He was scoring decent even last year and really highly touted prospects like him who've had some success at the NHL level usually get 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th chances.

That Roy is so far down the list makes me consider him the proto-Price. To be fair to Montreal, they've been playing better in better quality games against better opposition. They'll still go down in the first round of the Playoffs after Price sees 200 shots in 4 games, but that's besides the point.

Apparently the Penguins are considering rolling with Letang and Despres on the top defensive pairing when everybody's healthy (excluding Maatta I assume since he's out for the season). While the wisdom of making that a thing seems kind of questionable, it does put the Penguins one step closer to icing a starting lineup composed entirely of French-Canadians. If only Dupuis didn't have those drat blood clots...

His stellar season .870 save percentage actually went down even farther. He's the worst goalie I've ever seen. And that's saying a lot as an Islander fan. The dude is literally the Tanner Glass of goalies. Isles don't really need to make any big moves before the TDL but a new backup is absolutely one of them. You can see noticeable differences in how hard they even play now when Johnson starts.

I'm not sure where he would end up at this point though. He'll be the 4th centre in Buffalo after McEichel/Reinhart/Grigorenko if they really commit to the kids, and there's no way they'll keep his cap hit around long term. Not really sure who's suffering at center enough to take a flyer on him, other than the comedy option of the Flyers.

I had to leave before the third started, but going by the stats (and what I saw I guess? like the 1 minute of ES in the 2nd), they were respectable in the 2nd and 3rd (hovering around 51% Corsi). They managed to be spectacularly bad in the first, though. It's kind of their thing. Also, Carey Price is good and handsome.

I think he could see success as a special-deployment-only bottom line player plus PP specialist but he will probably get way too much money for that to ever be worth it. and not even Vigneault does crazy enough zone starts to protect Hodgson, so its not like there is a coach out there who even would do that

My hope for this year was that they'd finally stop riding percentages and actually play as bad as their underlying stats so that Carlyle and Nonis would finally lose their jobs. It's not really that fun to watch but the team falling down the standings in a decent draft year and getting rid of Carlyle is a hell of a lot more rewarding than sneaking into a wildcard they don't belong in and validating a bunch of smug dinosaurs.
