LG is making the panels also arn't they? And LG are the IPS guys right now.

Well, my HP zr24w just died and I guess that guy from the last page selling one for £20 has got rid of it already, not that I want to pick it up from Cambridge anyway so I need a new monitor. 1080p is bullshit so it looks like either the dell ultrasharp 24 inch at 1920x1200 or maybe an acer k272 27 inch with a higher resolution. But, is buying a bottom end 27 inch going to end up with a poo poo panel compared to a mid range 24? Edit: looks like the dell 25 inch 2560x1440 is a good compromise now I've found it. It's simply the next step up. Be careful though, keep in mind 1440p can be intensely more difficult on your gpu depending on games you play/settings you use as it is 75% more pixels. It's the sweet spot (to me, at the moment) for reasonable gpu demand while looking the best that but it isn't a cakewalk. Also, I've not actually seen a lovely 1440p panel yet in any casing. Dont know how true that holds over, but its nothing like 1080p/1200p where you can go out and buy a total piece of garbage 1gnoirents fucked around with this message at 00:21 on Jan 30, 2015 |

I underestimated the experience of smooth gameplay and up to 144 frames/ Hz. You can't describe it, you have to see it. Everytime I showed my buddies my new gaming rig, they were in awe and amazed. Not because of my PC specs but because of the ASUS Swift.

Firstly there are 1440p 144hz IPS panels coming out very soon, which fix the major shortcoming of the Swift (TN). Secondly ASUS' exclusivity on the TN 1440p 144hz ended with 2014, so there are equivalent models coming out from companies like AOC and Acer that won't carry the ASUS Tax and Exclusivity Tax, pushing down the prices. Really I think its a bad time to buy a Swift right now.

Picked up one of those "used refurbished" 2560x1440 Korean monitors on eBay for 175$. I don't think mine has ever been touched before. No dead pixels, no backlight bleed, no issues at all. I only slightly regret getting glossy because MY GIRLFRIEND makes jewelry in the same room as my gaming setup and it's like a mirror with all the super-bright lights she uses... It's a tough call gaming-wise whether I'll use this or the 120Hz, but my current desk only has room for the one monitor so I guess the IPS wins for now Captain Yossarian fucked around with this message at 13:42 on Jan 30, 2015 |

Can you check to see if it's overclockable? Some of those korean monitors can be pushed to 120hz (or at the very least, 96hz). If it only has a dual-link DVI input then it likely is.

From what I'm reading, technically the Shimian QH270 should be able to overclock, but the results people have reported seem to be pretty poor and the word is that they top out around 70 Hz before seeing artifacts. Captain Yossarian posted:This is the one I ended up getting. http://preview.tinyurl.com/jw2cgfm Looks like it is at $179 now which is still hella cheap. Don't know if I hit the jackpot or not but mine is basically perfect. Bezels are a little large but I am only rolling with the one screen right now so it doesn't bother me at all. Yeah the shimian probably has the most prominant bezel out of all of them, partially cause it's kinda big and partially cause of the dumb white stripe. And even though I have mine vesa mounted the part of the stand connected to the monitor doesn't come off without dismantling part of it. Neither of those bother me enough to not make it worth it though, no dead pixels or backlight bleed for $180 was pretty sweet.

So I'm having some buyer's remorse about the Swift, I think mostly because it's a TN panel and with a panel that size it's hard to avoid having a bad angle on part of the screen. I'm thinking about switching to a 4K IPS panel, which I've wanted for programming and such for some time, and then waiting for Acer to get my G-sync fix. What are the crowd-favorite 4K displays? I might be able to get a deal on a friend's ASUS PQ321Q, which looks good, but I'm not sure what other good options are.

Thinking about picking up a QNIX QX2710 from this seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/QNIX-QX2710...=item1e876ecd0b I will be gaming in 1440p on a GTX 970. I play a lot of single player AAA titles, and while I've been on a hiatus from FPS for a while, I am definitely looking to get back into the fray once the new setup arrives. Does anyone have a better recommendation, or a reason to go for a different monitor? My display budget is ~$350.

I'm scouring, but does any one see a posting for an original one that's below $350? I guess the same would go for the X-Star DP2710; my needed specifications are kind of expensive. Hmm... does anyone have experience with glossy panels? Would it be worth it to spend the extra cash on matte over glossy? This would probably be the panel I went with if it wasn't. Can someone point out the difference besides price between this display and this one? Edit: Upon further inspection, it looks like the listing titles are just mislabeled, the item specifications list the correct model. The less expensive one is the glossy model, the more expensive being the matte model. Nuja fucked around with this message at 04:35 on Feb 1, 2015 |
