No matter what, you're going to need to buy a video capture device that can handle HDMI. However, there's a important side question: Do you need to play anything that needs fast reaction times and/or Wiimotes? Most capture cards are going to add about 1/4 of a second of lag between the console putting out a frame (or a sound) and it appearing on your PC.

If you're okay with playing that that lag -- or if you're willing to just do Off-TV Play using the WiiU gamepad -- then you can just buy any HDMI-capable capture device, plug the WiiU into it, and go nuts. If you're not okay with that, then you need one of two things.

1) You need to get a video capture device that has a pass-through -- i.e. the BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle or Intensity Extreme, or the Micomsoft XCapture-1
2) You need to buy an HDMI splitter and two more HDMI cables. WiiU goes to splitter; splitter goes to TV and capture device.

The second is a big pain in the rear end, but has a small added bonus: there are some HDMI splitters out there which will strip HDCP. If you have one of these, you can use them to capture games from PS3 or iOS devices, since those have HDCP turned on at all times and capture cards generally won't support HDCP signals.

Well for what it's worth, mainline SMT is less anime (and more mallgothy, really) than Persona, so it's closer to acceptable in a non-anime society. I mean it's still anime but it's not overboard.

I don't get why you guys are taking anime so seriously, I just like good things and I've noticed that the more anime and mallgothy things get, the more I just kinda don't want to even bother. Like, things that are super anime come off as some sort of mix as skeevy and childish, like the kinda poo poo we all loved when we were 15. You guys don't play Elmo's Number Journey for N64 and talk about how it's totally a hidden gem on the N64 because it's a game tailor-made for toddlers, why would you play a game made for troubled teenagers? And I know I should probably call them emo games or whatever these days but I'm old enough to actually be a teenager when mallgoths were a thing.

I know Shin Megami Tensei IV is fairly anime and kind of mallgothy, but at least it's written well enough so that anyone can enjoy it. Not that a game being mallgothy really means it's bad or anything, just usually out of your age range. It's good enough to not be full-on mallgothy (because Lord knows its theme fits like a glove), but the mallgoth barometer pretty much means "this is deep to 15 year olds who hate their parents and society but looks dumb to anyone past that". Same goes for anime.

I mean, gently caress, how could it get any simpler? Just play games made for your mental level. And I'm sure we've all mentally surpassed our teen years, right?

Call of Duty is a hard to describe paradox of a series, in that they do in fact sell its apparel at Hot Topic, which would make one think it'd be mallgothy but it really isn't. It's something your average mallgoth and otaku would be too snobby to play, and sells better to the sort of people who put Monster Energy decals on the back of their pickup trucks. It is 15% anime and 0% mallgothy.
