I'm reading Moby Dick right now and it's a real hoot. Ishmael gets married to Queequeg, converts to worshiping a wooden idol named Yojo, lays around in bed for several days with Queequeg, attends to church, gets screwed by cheap Quakers, and then gets accosted by the prophet Elijah. All in the first 100 pages. It's hilarious.

I've been reading Sun Tzus Art of War but it is a book that talks in very high level concepts and it is sometimes tough to extract the intent of each passage and apply it directly to everyday life. I think it works better as a framework for how to plan your future (mostly career wise by viewing life long employment as a was). Of course of you are a nihilist then the book provides no insight and should be avoided.

I've read a few, op, and I still like the internet. e: Crazyweasel posted:I've been reading Sun Tzus Art of War but it is a book that talks in very high level concepts and it is sometimes tough to extract the intent of each passage and apply it directly to everyday life. SUN TZU Dying ground is ground where your forces are more vulnerable, for example a swamp, where you cannot manoeuvre. SUN SOME OTHER GUY It is said that dying ground is often risky to fight in, because any effort to deploy there will be met with danger. SUN ANOTHER GUY The swamp is ordinarily no place to fight - fighting there implies hazard. SUN TZU You cannot fight in a swamp and expect to win - except when fighting there is necessary, and carefully planned out. We have seen in history many caught out in this kind of ground, who fought poorly because it is dangerous. SUN ANOTHER GUY Reflecting on the words of Sun Tzu, it is important not to fight in dying ground, except where it will lead to victory. And you're just like "don't fight/live at a disadvantage and don't necessarily think you've got someone else under your thumb if they're smarter or better equipped to deal with a situation than you know, wow what a lesson". jBrereton fucked around with this message at 17:58 on Feb 21, 2015 |

I am a shameful human being for 40k and Heresy novels and own entirely too many of them. I also have shitloads of better books too but gently caress I just have to get more and more of the former. It's bad enough that once I started tearing through them a couple years ago I had to get a fourth bookshelf. Living with no roommates and having a room for books and reading loving rocks. It's also the one place in my apartment where I allow smoking because chiefing on a pipe while reading with some music on is the loving bee's knees. I like to read. In the last 12 months I've read 30 or so books. Currently reading: Pranksters: Making Mischief in the Modern World by Kembrew McLeod A History of Life in 100 Fossils by Paul Taylor Principles of Geology by Charles Lyell I usually have several books going at a time, and tend to switch between them. Mrs. Genesplicer and I have a routine on the weekends where we get out of bed, move to the couches and read for a few hours before starting our days. For those of you wondering why I am posting this rather than reading, as I just stated, today was interrupted because we are getting ready to go to a book release party for an author we know. Kinda fun.

This was really good. I mean, i've read the illegal internet version and seen the show, so I knew it would be, but the translation is good, the typesetting is flawless, and they include the colored pages. All in all a really great presentation. Definite recommend.
