My brother and I are looking for a good game to play together online. Anything co-op would be great, but we've got a preference for MMOs with lots of duo content, and would prefer to play something free or cheap($30 or less). PC or PS3.

Games we've played and enjoyed that I can remember right now:
-Borderlands 1/2/Pre-sequel
-Everquest and EQ2
-Rift Online
-Anarchy Online
-Orcs Must Die 1/2
-Portal 2
-Diablo 2/3
-Torchlight 1/2
-Guild Wars 2
-Dota 2(please no more mobas though)
-TF2
-Battlefield (various)
-Titanfall
-Baldur's Gate 1/2 EE

Like I said, we like all kinds of games, so long as we can partner up and feel like we're getting something done.

Defiance is a pretty decent f2p shooter, a bit like a less zany Borderlands in MMO form. I played it with a buddy of mine for some time, it's pretty fun roaming around shooting stuff as a duo, occasionally wandering into these huge gently caress-off battles with random other players against huge hordes of mobs. It's really simple to get into and not a deep game at all, but somehow I just felt it was way more fun that it has any right to be.

Also seconding Divinity: Original Sin. It is still full price at the moment, but put it on a watch list or something and grab it if it goes on sale. It's a drat great RPG, and while I personally haven't played it in multiplayer either, I have zero doubt it's oodles of fun to futz around with a buddy in.

I've played through Divinity OS solo, and it was a blast. That's a really good idea. Defiance looks alright too, I didn't realize it was a f2p game, we'll definitely have a look at that as well.

Dead island is a possibility, Dying Light is a bit high on the price point for what we're looking for though. We're a little Zombied out from Left 4 Dead though. Looks like I forgot to mention that one in my list.

Warframe looks really fun, actually. That's one we'll have to try.

Dying Light has made Dead Island obsolete. There is no reason for anyone to play Dead Island again. If you get Dead Island, especially if you are feeling zombied out, you will be disappointed, I promise you. Dying Light, however, is incredible. It has the exact same gameplay of Dead Island only improved in really every way a game can be improved. The worst part about Dying Light is that the first hour is kind of slow but once the game gets rolling, it loving rolls.

Where can I get more cyberpunk RPG? (that isn't jazzpunk, shadowrun, binary domain, or FO:NV.)

It's not an RPG but Dishonored is a fantastic game that's in the gameplay style of Deus Ex where it gives you big levels with multiple ways to approach them.

Warthunder's a F2P online tanks & planes game where teamwork is the most OP thing possible. Two people who work together and are good can easily decide matches.

lenoon
Jan 7, 2010

I second the warthunder reccommendation. It's not really co-OP in the strictest sense of the word in that you're on a large team, but two people playing together can do much much more than two people playing on their own. If you see it as a coop game against idiot bots you'll basically have it sorted. Escorting bombers, being a proper wingman, backing each other up in a tank, it's all really rather wonderful. Plus it runs on virtually anything and arcade mode is as pick up and play as you'd like it to be. There's no real need to grind up, you can just pick planes/tanks you enjoy playing and only use those.

I want a game where the hitting/shooting is as satisfying as it is in Max Payne 3. It doesn't have to be a particularly great game otherwise (MP3 certainly wasn't) but drat it nailed the gunplay. I've been playing a lot of more abstract games where you just sort of chip away at an unflinching enemy or maybe inflict status effects until they do a canned death animation and it's given me that particular itch that needs scratching. PC or PS3 (or uh Android I guess).

Have you tried Binary Domain? It's really satisfying shooting robots and watching bits fly off. The way you earn money even encourages it over mere clean kills.

Others have answered the first part of your question. I can chime in that I was a huge ME1/ME2 fan who hated the typical parts of ME3 that people hate (dumb ninja, dumb ending). Later I replayed the whole series and found ME3 much, much easier to enjoy once I was already in a zen place about the end, particularly with the ME3 DLC (revised endings and Shepard's apartment hangout party).

What kinda games are you looking for specifically? Just cyberpunk in general or more cyberpunk FPSRPGs?

If you want a FPSRPG, Get thyself to System Shock 2 as fast as you can. Cyberpunk FPSRPG is pretty specific though, there's not much else other than Deus Ex 1 and Invisible Revolution. Just play Deus Ex again? Check out the HD mod?

If you're cool with a pure FPS, check out Hard Reset, EYE, Farcry Blood Dragon, Dystopia, or Neotokyo..

If you're cool with pure RPG check out Anacronox.

If you're cool with Third-person check out Remember me or Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.

This is going to sound awkward because everyone hated it but the Kane & Lynch series had really satisfying gunplay. The first game is like a spiritual successor to Freedom Fighters. Kind of aged poorly but it's one of the few shooters, even today, where loving everything crumbles around you. The sequel is just a straight shooter but the "gun feel" is great. They upped the number of poo poo that shatters to your never ending hail of gunfire and it's "realistic" in a pleasing way. Enemies basically go down with a shot to the chest and shotguns maintain their power over a long range unlike a lot of games that make them useless beyond point blank. I don't know why people thought the game was bad, like I think it plays better than Max Payne 3. It's totally devoid of any content and I'd be pissed dropping $60 on it but it's commonly on sale. You might even have it from a past bundle or something.

The Darkness 2 is also amazing. It's not the action/adventure of its Xbox exclusive predecessor but it has really great gun combat mixed with all the gruesome poo poo you can do with your monster tentacles.

E.Y.E. is way more fascinating and entertaining than a game that janky has any right to be. One of the most apt descriptions I've seen is "Cyberpunk and WH40k mixed in a crazed fever dream".

Like, I tried to hack into an ATM, but the loving ATM counter-hacked my cyber-brain, and the backlash caused my character to have a nervous meltdown and wildly fire the whole magazine from his pistol all over an empty street. Don't gently caress with ATMs, man.

EYE takes a lot of patience and more than a little bit of tolerance for mental instability but if you can get past it then there is a game worth playing under there. Everything is bullshit the first time you play it, but once you know that this is the level where I play cyber serious sam and mow down neverending monsters with a minigun and this is the level where I shoot down gunships with a revolver and argue with druggies, it gets a lot better.

The latter level features some random looter you can get into an argument with for no reason, which features the line "gently caress you! You're the hobo!" You later meet some giant death god underground who wants you to kill some people for no reason. He asks you if you want to join his undead army and when you say no his line is something along the lines of "Hahahh good choice dude!"

The game's failure to ever make sense really never stops being entertaining. I think I've finished the campaign 6 or more times now.
