One morning I heard what sounded like construction going on outside and when I went I saw a completely destroyed tree stump and one of these guys A pileated woodpecker. They're over a foot long so they look comically large compared to other woodpeckers

Moorhens are pretty great, especially because they sound like squeaky toys. Here's a photo I took the other year of a parent feeding its chick: Oddly enough, the chicks look more like the adults than the juveniles do - they start out black with red beaks, turn brown, and then go back to black with red beaks.
