LOL no. Just going back a couple of years, they bought Rodwell and Sinclair to meet their homegrown quota and everybody knew they would rot on the bench. They bought Maicon when he was about a thousand years old. Jovetic was a perpetual sick note. Navas was a twink. Mangala was overpriced, to say the least.

If you like, we can go back to the good old days when they bought a past-it Kolo Toure and Adebayor for a combined £40M.

City are hard to hate because there are some class acts in the squad, but they have spent literal hundreds of millions of pounds with no long-term plan (or on dross) and they of all clubs deserve to get hosed by FFP because of it.

The worst bit is how content Van Gaal and the fans are. It's been lauded as United's performance of the season. They only got to play that way because Mourinho let them. He let them have free reign of the ball because he knew they could do nothing with it, and United thanked him with a goal he wasn't too concerned about getting. Shambolic. Pathetic.

Its been hailed as a good performance because with the players we had out we should have got well and truly bummed and instead Mourinho played a poo poo game to play the opposition rather than let his team overrun us

Well the Abu Dhabi takeover was summer 2008, so pulling the numbers straight from here:

http://www.transferleague.co.uk/manchester-city/english-football-teams/manchester-city-transfers

http://www.transferleague.co.uk/manchester-united/english-football-teams/manchester-united-transfers

We've got City at £127.7m in that first season and United at £145.5m. Factor in mental football price inflation and you couldn't really argue United's spending this summer was more excessive than City's was that year. Transfer spending anyway. Even with wages, Toure's been on something like £250k a week for a few years now.

Lol £18m for Jo. And looking at that, I had no idea Silva signed in 2010. In my head he's only been there 2 or 3 seasons.

edit: unless the Falcao deal turns out to be in fact be an obligation to buy for something mental.

You have to bear in mind that as soon as a club like city go for a player the fee increases by ten to twenty million depending on the club/player involved.

lmao Jo was actually bought before the Sheikhs took over.

Remember they actually bought City on the last day of the 2008 summer transfer window and their only signing that year was Robinho. The other signings that window which I think included Jo, Kompany, and Zabaleta, were all made by the previous owners.

January 2009 was when City first started signing a ton of big-money players with oil money and the first round was huge overspending on players like Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Shay Given, and Joleon Lescott.
