like the top of the elevator is a place you'd look to find someone squatting.

Jerry Bindle

this thread has taught me that the top of the elevator is indeed a prime squatting location just for that reason. it ruined now though, the secret is out. now everyone is doing it. like in the 90's how someone thought to put a tennis ball on their antennas so they could spot their car easily in the parking-lot. we went back to not being able to find our cars again after everyone had a ball on their antenna. now cars don't even have antennae.

just some crawlspace or maintenence door that's at the bottom of the shaft.

it's a pretty old elevator, and if there was any mechanism to keep the doors closed, it isn't there now.

Subject: [Noisebridge-discuss] Proposal to open Noisebridge at sunrise
Date: Wed, 29 Apr 2015 20:17:44 -0700
From: bfb@riseup.net
To: noisebridge-discuss@lists.noisebridge.net

Hi all,

At the last several meetings there has been lively discussion to bump up
our opening time from 11:00 to sunrise. Specifically, Earl, our
gatekeeper, is configured for three user types.

Earl currently opens when an RFID key is scanned for:

anonymous users from 11:00 - 22:00
deanonymized users from 7:00 - 23:59
root users with 24 hour access

The proposal is to change this to:

anonymous users from sunrise - 22:00
deanonymized users form sunrise - 23:59
root users with 24 hour access

To accomplish this we use the https://github.com/cpucycle/astrotime
library. The code is in place, perhaps ready to deploy.

How do others feel about this change? If you're curious, have a look at
meeting discussions.

https://www.noisebridge.net/Meeting_Notes_2015_04_07
https://www.noisebridge.net/Meeting_Notes_2015_04_21
https://www.noisebridge.net/Meeting_Notes_2015_04_28

Some salient points for me include:

Early birds have described friction with the 11:00 opening hour
Noisebridge is lonely when empty
Noisebridge prospers when used, not abused
Early birds want to hack between sunrise and 11:00 at Noisebridge
Updating RFID keys with contact information requires editing a text file
(not currently supported via the touchpad interface)
Decoupling Noisebridge from an arbitrary and obsolete governmental
definition, the PDT/PST flux, is nice
Sunrise is beautiful
If the change is not working out, we can always roll back

Thanks much for reading,
Kevin

I honestly don't care what name people give when they deanonymize themselves
in the database. I only care that people can be held accountable for making GBS threads

is unexcellent. If an anonymous person with a vendetta comes in and shits in
the woodshop, how could it be prevented? Would we just hope that they don't
poo poo in there again? Shouldn't it make sense that we would know who did it and
tell the community "Hey folks, Jackhammer Jill poo poo in the woodshop. Don't let

[Noisebridge-discuss] Bench Supply and Laser Cutter?
Zach R organicunity at hotmail.com
Thu Apr 30 14:29:48 UTC 2015
Hey all,
It was great to see some of the old faces at NB on Monday. We had Michael L, Rubin, Jake, Miloh, Kevin and some other peeps of the OG variety holding it down ! Felt like old times :)

Me and Jake took a stab at the blown bench supply that everyone was using for years (the 15V x2 output adjustable one). It's seen a lot of use, love, and abuse and it would be nice to have it going again. It has been moved to the hackershelves now since it was taking a lot of time to repair and it got late. Here is the diagnosis I made:

1) both outputs are good voltage-wise and adjust properly
2) Current control on both sides is shot, appears worse on the left as it actually displays a negative number (hah)
3) I believe the current is controlled by 2 logic chips using a sense resistor. Those chips are CD1044 and CD4066 I believe.
4) I recommend replacing those chips and / or investigating the current control circuitry on the power converter board.
5) Note power converter boards have 2x pico fuses each that check out fine (they are yellow)

And I've been meaning to ask: what exactly is wrong with the laser cutter? Does it need some expensive part? I would LOVE to take a stab at repairing this since its one of the finest pieces of machinery we have at NB.

Best,
Zach

The laser tube needs wired up. It is sitting inside the tube compartment in
the laser cutter itself. Thats about as much as I know :)

Hilaire Nollette metatecque at gmail.com
Thu Apr 30 21:37:23 UTC 2015

I did a little maintenance on the laser cutter a year and a half ago, there
should be a brass connection on the left side. .. if you duplicate this
connection on the right you will be good to go, do not solder directly to
the tube, you can remove the rubber insulation on the right and solder a
brass crimp connector to the wire.
Blessings,
Hilaire

Thanks for info everyone.

That's great, I thought it was broken way worse. I can bring my tools over and look at it next week. NOTE, we do not have ANY needle nose pliers and the dozens of tools I donated last month (lots of screwdrivers and such) were nowhere to be found on monday. Makes doing these repairs really difficult cause I have to bring my tools from home...just an fyi for everyone to keep an eye on what we have.

Do you know more about the brass contact it uses? Id be down to order another on ebay rather than replicate / jerry rig something for such a nice piece of equipment.

-Zach

Hilaire Nollette metatecque at gmail.com

Zach,
I found that connector among the electronic supplies. I was told by the
manufacturer that you could use an alligator clip, but he did say do not
solder directly to the tube. I'm not physically around nb, but as I had
some time invested in that machine I thought I'd help where I can.

Cheers,
Hilaire

We've got a huge bin of screwdrivers in the dirty shop. Needle nose pliers
tend to end up in the big red rolling toolbox.

Adam Munich adam at aperture.systems
Fri May 1 19:48:14 UTC 2015

I have one of those full spectrum models ( its at Sudo room right now) and
it's not an incredibly complex machine. I would say that wiring up the
laser tube would take only about 1 minute, the difficulty is aligning the
laser there after adjusting all the mirrors.

Last time I did this I used polycarbonate glasses ( which are opaque at
that wavelength ) and a magnet over the safety switch sensor to make the
machine think it wasnt open. I then held down the later test button and
used a piece of cardboard to determine where the beam is and where it
should go, and adjusted accordingly.

Zach organic_unity at yahoo.com
Sat May 2 07:25:27 UTC 2015

drat, Adam it sounds like it would be GREAT to have you around for calibrating. Any chance you could drop by NB sometime when I'm there and spread the knowledge?

Also, about the tools - there are ZERO needle nose pliers in the red bin. I am very familiar with the red bins. Woodshop yielded zilch too. I mean, there are a LOT of tools missing. just saying.

-Zach

so uh, next week someone's probably going blind

if they can find a pair of pliers
