Okay. I'm trying to remember this French song for personal family reasons (it involves something someone wants played). It's a marching song, I have no idea if it has lyrics. I am pretty sure it starts with an M, and is something like "Le Marganot" or something. It is NOT La Marseille, the French national anthem, nor is it La Madelon.
Your description doesn't really sound like it but I immediately thought of La Mer

I can't even remember what the music sounded like to this song, but I do remember the music video was about the aftermath of a (school?) shooting? And there was a scene in it where somebody was getting stick-and-poke tattoos and maybe a scene on a railroad but I'm not sure about that. It's kind of a long shot but does anyone know what song I'm talking about?

There's a song I remember from various movie soundtracks. It's a dramatic song usually played at some kind of epic scene, starts with loud and low violins for a few seconds, then a chorus of voiceless screaming. Edit: Found it myself. Dies Irae, from Verdi's Requiem.

I'm trying to piss off a co-worker (a noble intention) and I remembered a technoey/alternativey song from maybe 2008-09 (possibly older) that featured a female vocalist with a godawful (and LOUD) horse neighing sound that was just plastered into the song at random points. Not sure if anyone knows the song, but I figure this is probably the only place I can ask such a vague and stupid question.

It's much more recent, but Flume's remix of Tennis Court has a horse neighing in it. Is that what you're thinking of?

I don't actually remember much about the song itself, but I'm trying to find it based on the music video. The artist was a black man, possibly overweight, and he spends the entire video singing about/to a white woman wearing lipstick. At one point she's looking out a window while he's on a city street.

Edit: More details. The woman was blonde, he might not have been stalking her the whole song I don't remember the end of it; and I think it was from the late 90s or 2000s, but it could have also been modern or from the 80s. I think the video was set during the day or at dawn/dusk, not at night.

I remembered something else: the artist wore a black men's hat (fedora or trilby) and a black jacket.

I know I'm going to kick myself and/or remember this the moment I actually get it posted, but I've got a tiny chunk of a bass guitar lick in my head, I know there's a song I listened to recently that has it as a main feature, and I can't for the life of me come up with the rest of it. At least I can hum it:

Life would be simple in the forest except for Cyril Sneer. And his life would be simple except for The Raccoons.
Okay this is a long shot as I have very little to go on.

The chorus (I think the song consisted almost entirely of the chorus) went something like:

"crossing that stream, chasing that car, calling my baby"
<repeat multiple times>

In a pinch the melody was similar to do-do-doo-di-di-doo-doo bit from Depeche Mode's Just Can't Get Enough.

Those are very likely not the lyrics but it does reflect the rhyming scheme. The song came out in the early 2000s. My friend who I remember listening to it, listened to a lot of then-indie bands, and in particular, Canadian indie bands (Sloan, Joel Plaskett, the Super Friendz, etc). It MAY have been an Air song.

Might be double posting Buuuuut is it Anthem for a Seventeen year old girl by Broken Social Scene?

They're early 2000s Canadian indie, and the repeating thing sounds similar, kinda loses it on the DM thing tho it's much less poppy.

I heard a song once. Probably from a link on SA somewhere. I really don't have a lot of information, but I know that it was 1) kind of an upbeat indie-rock sorta thing 2) Russian or some sort of Baltic 3) mentioned some kind of big corporation(s) in the chorus.

I remember loving loving that song, and oh man do I wish I knew what it was.

This is actually a request to identify an instrument, not a song.

What is the type of horn/trumpet instrument that I associate with music in western genre movies? It's, for example, the instrument that plays in the following clip at 0:27, 1:14, and 2:03.

I think it's just a regular trumpet, frankly. The liner credits (as transcribed onto discogs, at least) only credit a guy playing the trumpet. When I think of that type of sound I think of Alone Again Or by Love, and that too just credits a trumpeter.

Erebus

Okay... Keep your head, Steve boy...

It reminds me of kind of a mariachi sound, which would also go with your association with westerns. Those are also just regular trumpets, but there may be a certain kind of tuning or something that produces that sound.

Pork Pie Hat
Apr 27, 2011
As noted above it's a trumpet, but probably a lighter construction and using a very shallow mouthpiece (both of which are common in Mariachi trumpet playing).

In westerns you may find the occasional muted trumpet, especially if you're hearing a very "tinny" trumpet sound.

I remember this song from a while back, 3-4+ years probably (possibly older). It was either Snowgoons ft. "someone" or "someone" ft. Snowgoons, and I think it had an animated music video with some warrior, ninja, samurai or something possibly in the forest also possibly snow or something. Super vague, but does anyone know what I'm talking about? I've been searching for a bit, but I can't find anything resembling it. Maybe it got taken down from youtube or something.

EDIT: Found it by looking through their discography and listening to anything with a name that sounded half-familiar. It's called "The time is now" and it was super not worth the effort

Uh oh, I think someone just told Hunter what game he's in.
There's a melody that's been kinda stuck in my head intermittently. It's a chill , slow-but-upbeat pop song with a female vocalist who I think sounds a bit like Yael Nain.
The only bit I can really remember is her melody for the chorus. I've tried replicating it on guitar, though I messed up the tempo - it's meant to be slower: http://tindeck.com/listen/fokuk

Crazy Achmed
Mar 13, 2001

I just spent an hour fruitlessly searching for a funky instrumental track that gets used a bit for entrance songs. It starts off with a round of repetitions of a pretty powerful march-like 4/4 beat, drums only, fairly slow, swaggery tempo. Each round ends with a three-note turn on trumpets (I think), and this whole thing repeats a few times before it gets into the song proper.

I think this song also gets abused quite a bit as background music for lists of things (sports team rosters, countdowns etc.), with the drum beat getting looped while someone talks and the trumpets happening as each new item on the list is introduced.

I am pretty sure I heard the title read out on the radio once, but have since forgotten it - but I remember that the title was pretty long and unusual. Of course, the guy on the radio might have been wrong...
