Oh okay, I see what you mean. Glad we're on the same page. If XCOM 2 doesn't have this feature I hope modders can make it happen.

Speaking of which how hard would it be to implement a "cinematic feature", where the actions happen one after another in a movie-ish way after the mission is over?

I will admit to wanting this feature because it would make doing a screenshot LP of X-Com much, much easier. :v:

EDIT: I know you're in touch with people over at Firaxis - where would be the best place to start bringing the idea up so they might see it?

I think like a lot of ideas that it's one of those things that's too late to ask for when the game already looks pretty finished, but if there's a lot of moddability a) who knows b) maybe it's already in and c) maybe we can mod it in ourselves?!

If you wanted to ask someone official about it I'd reccomend either tweeting @XCOM or getting a lot of community support for it as they very regularly take notice of the subreddit from what I've seen. Those are the two most visible ways, one less direct than the other of course. But tweeting @XCOM out of the blue with "hey I have an idea about your game" might not get replied to despite how awesome the guy who's running it is, whereas if you made a topic about it on the XCOM subreddit and it gained a lot of traction and visibility they're likely to see that.

Maybe the fifth class is a scout type class, focused on reconnaissance and has extra use for stealth (but not to the point of it being a crutch). They could maybe carry battle scanners or have an Analyze ability that improves crit rate on a certain target.

The 5th class is straight up just the Medic from TF2. It's a weird choice, seeing as how the cartoon graphics of the Medic does not match at all with the rest of the game's aesthetics and soldier customization is such a big thing, but I mean how else can you sell a game without dipping in on that sweet hat money? Pre-purchase XCOM2 and get a free Snaketits armor plating for the Pyro!

I think that's going to be the sniper, since they've said it'll let you focus on rifles or pistols. I'm hoping there's an actual rifleman class since I really like the infantry class in LW and vanilla XCOM is really missing a similar shootmans class. It doesn't look like it though. :(

Actually, I just remembered something weird about the Altar Games trilogy. The second two games were both based off a completely out-of-the-blue choice the player makes in the first game: to cooperate with the aliens. If the player refuses and wins, it's a happy end, humanity rebuilds. But if you accept its an instant game over. The second two games assume the player made the choice to cooperate, which blew my mind, and the third game takes place contemporaneously with the second, albeit from Mars rather than Earth.

It was a very weird series.

Not unlike Legacy of Kain, where Soul Reaver assumed that you chose to basically drat the world and rule out as a vampire God at the end of the first game, rather than the 'happy' ending where Kain sacrifices himself.

This is a setting where gene mods and types of aliens have been known for years. Even if the 5th class isn't a dedicated psychic it would still be nice to get access to them early on.

Doubtful - recording all the events and RNG as they happen for later playback would be likely to be pretty easy under the hood in most engines, but doing that from a mod is less likely.

In my most recent game, one of the security guards, Fatima something, wasted a Cryssalid and a Sectoid, and ultimately weathered a double volley of Mechtoid fire to draw attention away from a badly injured trooper - and then retaliated with a lethal grenade toss. She survived the mission with an "earned a promotion" icon, and I lamented that she would not be joining the squad as a trooper.

When I did the DLC mission, The Furies, one of the Furies was a loving Assault with her exact name, nationality, and skin tone. :stare:

Very tough mission, I have to say. Was very touch-and-go advancing into the mech bay while it was inhabited by two mechtoids, two sectoids, and a muton, and two cyberdiscs coming through the cave at once earlier.

That was my first reaction, but it's actually amazingly configurable, so I tweaked away the things I didn't like, and made a few things easier for my lovely babby xcom skills, and I'm having a blast with it now. I set it up so that it's not really much harder than vanilla, just a lot more interesting.

A few things I changed (I can't remember all of them):

Way shorter aircraft repair (also shorter rearm and refuel time)
Longer arc thrower range
Shorter fatigue (I actually like a little bit... just not 4-8 days for everyone with no injuries, that's really annoying)
Shorter injuries. A big injury will still be a couple weeks at least, but no more month+ downtimes. At that point a soldier might as well not exist anymore.
No item repair. gently caress that.
More salvage from UFO's

I'm also playing with cinematic mode second wave option, which is higher aim soldiers and aircraft. Mostly for the air (gently caress the air game) but also I really hate every shot being 45%. :v:
The only other thing I can remember is the aiming angles second wave option, which improves hit chance the closer you are to a flank. This applies to enemies too so it's not just a "make it easier" button, but just adds more strategy to how you play the game.

In general the choices Long War makes of to simply make the game brutal and tedious as gently caress I am personally not a fan of, but you can tweak out the worst offenses and it leaves you with (for the most part) just a way more interesting version of xcom that gives much more strategic choice. I recommend it to anyone who has beaten the game and wants more. The changes I described only take a few minutes with a little ctrl+f in a single .ini file. There are lots of threads a google search will show you that break all that business out in extreme detail.
