I watched caddyshack for the first time this week on AMC. It's a stupid loving movie but I got some enjoyment out of it. I also watched all of the father's day national lampoon's vacation movies. They were great. Chevy Chase is perfect in all of them. I can go back and watch lovely old movies from the past that I've never seen and they all blow the current movies out of the water. I don't want to watch Batman beat up Superman, I don't want to watch Paul Rudd become an ant. I'm not loving 7 years old anymore.

actually i agree op, i dont subscribe to the idea that modern music is crap, or that people don't write good books any more or any of that, but i really struggle to get excited about films these days. I rewatch old ones all the time and they own, then i watch a current release and... they're all so overlong and flabby. i liked speed racer. lego movie was good. apart from those two i cant think of anything else ive enjoyed n the last like decade. all the good writers went to tv, innit.

There's a difference between a movie that's just deliberately trying to be dumb for comedy, and then there's movies that are just dumb. Some current movies kind of fall into the former category, but most of them just fall into the latter.
