More VHD!!  The novels are one of my guilty pleasures. I have all of them that have been translated so far (they are uniformly terrible). It really doesn't matter how awful that turns out to be, I will watch every second.

While both series have vampires, I can safely say that they both have vastly different tones and atmospheres (mostly due to the settings and the attitudes of the main characters and... well everything honestly). Vampire Hunter D got some great anime adaptations, but the source material is pretty bad. Just watch the two movies and leave it at that.
