I'm trying to get excited about this, but it's just not happening. This is an earnest question: Since almost every "reboot" under the sun comes across as a creative-less cash-grab that just demonstrates how bereft of originality Hollywood is, why is anyone looking for to this? This to me looks like "Hey, you know that iconic and well-loved movie from the 80s? What if we re-made it but they're all women this time?? Wouldn't that be ka-ray-zee?" Again, this is an earnest question...I'm not TRYING to be a wet blanket, but this just looks like another lovely reboot. What makes this NOT just another lovely reboot?

The argument is that this isn't just a cash grab and their actually trying to carefully revive the franchise. See also: Jurassic World, Mad Max, and Star Wars. Cash grabs are more like Total Recall, Footloose, red dawn, Clash of the titans, etc.

So don't get excited. Wait until you see a trailer? Also, Jurassic World was pretty soulless and had a rather poor script- if GB ends up like that...wooof. New total Recall was a better movie than JW, even if it was a lovely reboot.

I beg to differ. It was simplistic sure but was a far better film than TLW and JP3 and a lot of the garbage Hollywood passes off as "blockbusters" these days (Man of Steel, the thor films, everything by Michael Bay, etc.)

I never saw the JP sequels, so only had the first one to compare it to. :mediocre: in every way compared to it, and it seemed like a copy, structure-wise. Pratt's stuff was fun, though. And  if you think JW was a better put together movie than Bad Boys 2 or MoS.

I think people are getting excited about it because 1.) they're Ghostbusters fans and it's fun to see something new being done with it, 2.) it is not going to contain washed up old actors and a phoned-in Bill Murray performance, and 3.) that Ecto-1 is rad, the proton packs are rad, the costumes are rad, and the characters look more interesting than just "female versions of the male team".

From what very little information we have about the movie so far, the quality of the props alone is already in-line with what people actually want to see. It looks like a lot of thought and care was put into them to give them character without simply copying stuff directly. The director is being open with production and giving us some clues that show this might just be a modern take on Ghostbusters to bring a new generation of fans into the series who aren't just kids whose dads force them to wear proton packs and play with 25 year old toys.

While I agree that he didn't meant it the way that guy took it, I think it's an understandable misunderstanding considering the amount of crazy, sexist poo poo that has already been flung at this movie for daring to make the main cast a group of women.

Good point, and I hope so. Don't get me wrong - I'd love for this to be good, but given Hollywood's track record for resurrecting old franchises for nostalgia's sake (see Terminator Genisys for the most recent example), that's where my skepticism comes in. But again, I hope you're right.

Then how about saving the screams of "SEXISM!" for when it actually happens, and not casually throwing it out at anybody who might not be head-over-heels in love with the concept of yet another Hollywood reboot. Again, I'm just trying to get people to share their thoughts with me as to WHY they're looking forward to this. Thanks to those who have.

The concept of terminator was pretty neat. Young Sarah Connor. But then the trailer was like oh no John is a evil terminator! And welp

A few of those were made when remakes were not plaguing the film landscape. And a few were remakes of B movies, or those that didn't do well first time around. Or from another country in the case of the The Ring.

I wonder how many of those were designed for summer or winter blockbusters though.
I think we can all agree that remakes that end up being touted as the Big Blockbuster, are always shite.

You're not wrong and I'm not saying that ALL reboots are lovely cash grabs, but let me ask you then: What makes you think that this is going to be more like the movies you just listed and less like the updated reboots of Robocop, Total Recall, etc.? That's what I'm curious to hear.

Fantastic Four is technically a reboot and that looks way better than the original. Dredd was eons better than Judge Dredd. Personally I think the 1980s "remake" of The Thing is one of the best films ever. For every unneeded poo poo remake like Total Recall/Robocop/Clash of the Titans there will always be one or two great reimaginations that add a lot of cool poo poo and ideas to an old concept. I wasn't on board with a new Ghostbusters at first but I'm really coming around to it, cast and costumes and car look great and I heard Feige's been on a nice roll.

I'm concerned it's going to be a lukewarm movie when it's done. I really hope it isn't, I want it to be big, but I'm not seeing a lot that gets me excited about it. Apparently that makes me a sexist rear end in a top hat.

If the movie turns out to be legitimately bad the solution is to just make fun of the dumb people and really bad posters who attribute it being perceived as bad to misogynists or w/e

I mean the second one isn't considered to be very good so it's not like it's some franchise that would be "ruined" by having an all-female cast- if it's bad, it's just another bad Ghostbusters movie after the second one
