So, I themed my case around black /orange. Is there any 980 Ti that would work with this? I've looked at all available options and I just don't see anything.

So I moved up from a 560 Ti SC to a Gigabyte 970 and jesus christ... I can't find a game that will slow this thing down, I almost feel like I overspent on it lol. Maxed out Titanfall, Witcher 3, you name it all at 1080p.

That is, when u actually get my 980 Ti. I have to figure out which one I want though. The low end MSI blower style is $620(shipping). There are several open box Zotac models and two of the BNIB Zotac include a DP to HDMI single. I have really been considering the Galax 980 Ti HOF. Even though it doesn't go with my theme, the white card looks amazing. SlayVus fucked around with this message at 22:54 on Aug 25, 2015 |

Older AMD cards apparently support MPEG2 encoding, Nvidia does seem not to and I don't know about GCN chips. If you are doing H264, maybe the fastest way would be through Intel Quick Sync through a Haswell Core i3. I'm encoding to H264. I just ordered an i5-2500k, so hopefully that helps too. If you can afford fancy computer parts you can afford to have a half dozen of the things lying around, just like you can afford a cakebox of DVD blanks. If he loses it make him buy you a beer or two next time you're out and you're square. Anyway, by all means do what you need/want but at this point I find they're a gigantic pain in the rear end from start to finish. I burn maybe 2 DVDs a year for the oddball cases and my life is better for it. Zotac are the ones who broke cross-brand SLI compatibility, right? What is the exact threshold on that? Is it any of their cards, or just some? Can you SLI any cards within their brand, or only exactly identical models?

Yes, the i5 is significantly faster in encoding through CPU and if your encoder supports Quick Sync, it will be 10-fold faster but you'll take a small quality hit.

A large part of this is for archival purposes, so getting the absolute best quality is paramount.

It's fine for real-time applications like streaming, but archival quality it is not.

I still think VeeDub's score for 3DMark is relatively low for having 980 Ti x2. I'm seeing a single 980 Ti in the 18000-19000 range with i7-4790k. Only getting 3-3.5k more with a second card in Win8.1 doesn't seem right.

The last card that I had that had a reference style blower cooler had a high pitched whine. The last 2 cards I have had, have had 2 larger open fans and had been much quieter. Is this the case on the 980ti cards? The EVGA ACX+ cards have my eye.

Rosoboronexport posted:If the source is home-made VHS, will it matter? edit: Yeah on hindsight it will matter if you blow up the resolution from VHS to 1080p and do other post-processing effects. VHS might not be great quality, but because of that it is going to be noisy. A noisy source through a crappy encoder is going to leave all new digital artifacts on the image, which is going to add another layer of ugliness. Better off cleaning it up and sticking it through a well respected encoder like x264, at a decent bitrate or CRF. HalloKitty fucked around with this message at 14:49 on Aug 26, 2015 |

Yes. The blower style reference design is based upon the idea that it will work in any case, but be kind of annoying sound-wise and have lower overall cooling potential. The 3rd party solutions that work less noisily and more efficiently dump heat into the case and rely on your case having good airflow.

Nano is full-fat Fiji (as the rumours previously suggested). I'm imagining these are aggressively binned and throttled, but that's an interesting part. But being full-fat Fiji makes me think it's also going to be costly. Oh, and the yields will be terrible.
