Death penalty? Every country in Europe except for Belarus has abolished it, also most states in the Americas except for the USA. I think I recall Japan having capital punishment on the books, but that they haven't executed anybody for a long time. Most of the other red states are prime candidates for the death penalty club.

Torrannor posted:I think I recall Japan having capital punishment on the books, but that they haven't executed anybody for a long time. Just a correction: Japan does still hang one or two murderers every year. edit: Actually my hunch was off. The number is more than that. 3 people were hanged last year and eight in 2013. I would imagine this is right. Orange probably means "has it but doesn't do it" and I'm not sure what green is. edit: Yep. Green is "Abolished for all crimes except under exceptional/special circumstances (such as crimes committed in wartime)" The article is very interesting. You can be executed for witchcraft in the Central African Republic.

Topical. Abolition of monarchy by year. And I enjoy this one because "actual kingdom" puts this image in my mind that the guy who made it was going through his date and filling it out and he got the remaining monarchies and went: "huh, wait, what? Seriously? there are actually still monarchies?" I know it's not true, but a man can dream.
