If you squint and turn your head just right, you can sort of see a point there: fat, non-joke characters are not common, so when they one takes point and center in a popular piece of media it's great. If you're fat and the fact that Rose is depicted in a positive light is a big deal for you, I can even understand disapproving of art depicting her as skinny. But what in the name of all that is holy made these people think that it was okay to torment a person like this over loving creative differences? Jesus give me strenght

Well, morbid curiosity took over so I looked up the harassed girl's art. Unless something's been deleted, the outrage is over ONE picture, with an awkward skewed perspective (most of her body is behind Steven and Greg), from 2013, just after Bubble Buddies aired. When we hadn't even seen Rose beyond a glimpse of the portrait in the background.  Literally every single one thereafter has Rose the same way she's on the show and one of the first couple is even titled something along the lines of fat and beautiful. Holy poo poo am I ever glad I narrowly missed growing up in this tumblr era. That is some distilled, concentrated, high school mean girl bullshit. I hold a similar theory regarding Amethyst and her presumable siblings. Its an absolute gold mine for character drama and worldbuilding, and the creators would be absolutely remiss not to take advantage of it. At the very least you've got the typical issue of social conformity that has been noted more than a few times on the show, but with something like the Pearls, there's also the possibility of exploring where - as has happened in real life - where someone accepts the hosed up norms of a society whilst still suffering from them, because its been drilled into their heads so long. That the Crystal Gems are such an explicit minority in their views of morality among their kind puts them in an interesting position, as heroes go.
