Don't freak out over the name "Chara". To add one more to the pile so that it really sinks in, "Chara" is the in-engine default name for the player character, it's just that there's no menu option to go with the default - which is why there's an easter egg for naming them that. It helps to have particular name for the Fallen Child, and it's not a canonical name, because it's not really a plot-related thing. It's related to the game programming itself. It's (almost) entirely fanon, and it has no significance otherwise.RareAcumen posted:Seeing Sans now, I'm able to freely say that I'm a bit miffed at how he was generally ineffective when Flowey abushed everyone on the True Pacifist run. Why would she? She had no idea that anything was gonna happen. Also, sans doesn't wanna do anything until he absolutely has to. He similarly got caught off guard.

I did only say a bit miffed. You'd think they'd be able to do more than deflect a single attack each considering how much time they had to hype you up, after all.

I think the only real question we have left is 'what's with that door near Snowdin'. And I'm assuming that's something that'll come up on the final run. Unless the answer is 'it's one big troll there's nothing behind it'.

Sans is your judge, and waits until the very last moment before stepping in and putting your rear end down.

Sans is a cool guy By the way, another small detail in the fight: For the entire game in a normal run, Sans always winks at you with his left eye: the one that glows when he gets dangerous. Once he's aggro'd, Sans starts winking with his right eye instead. He isn't taking his killing eye off you Augus fucked around with this message at 18:42 on Nov 3, 2015 |

Gabriel Pope posted:Also, I'm curious. Is "c'mon, buddy. do you remember me?" specifically a response to having completed a neutral/pacifist run on your save or is it part of sans's dialogue regardless? I've seen the dialogue differently on a different genocide playthrough and from how it's different I'm pretty sure that the text here is unique to having done a pacifist run before. A ton of people have answered as such already, I'm only posting because I want to stress is that to my knowledge Sans still "spares" you after some "c'mon buddy" dialogue regardless of what routes you've completed, the text is just different Edit: And to address someone saying he couldn't because his memories were erased, yeah I figure they were but he somehow knows about saving and loading and probably inferred from how you acted (maybe a tinge of guilt?) of what you might have done before, he just can't be sure about it. Yeah, I know that Sans doesn't remember but considering he can accuately suss out exactly how many times he's killed you I'd say he's pretty drat good at reading time travelers' experiences.

What is he supposed to do in order to "help"? Sans knows that he ultimately can't stop you, and that doesn't change no matter when he would confront you. He's only doing it at the very end because you're about to destroy the world and he no longer has any choice but to try. At that point he's betting on the possibility of the player tiring of getting dunked on and resetting the game, in which case it doesn't matter that you've killed everyone.

We did everything we could in the game, got bored, and killed everybody in the game. Then, since there wasn't anybody left in the game to kill, we killed the game. I'm reminded of Little Inferno. That was a one-gimmick, one-message game, but its message was a good one. Wonder if Undertale was barking up the same tree.

Well, I guess it's a good thing I've already gone through that part of the game myself, because the amount of GIFs made my browser get dunked on and half the poo poo won't load. It might be prudent to split that update in half come archival time. Sans... yeah, that was a drat good fight. Took us about twenty tries, he sure put up a hell of a lot more of a fight than Undyne did. Of course, we never got dunked on - really, Sans, we had to murder my favorite character so hard she turned into goo, and you're going to spare us? Yeah, no thanks, not buying it or even caring enough to acknowledge it. Of course, when I talk about "us", I mean "Chara (or in my case, Simon) and me". Unlikely comrades in arms with goals not entirely conform with each other, but comrades nonetheless. ProfessorProf posted:Power. Out of all the memorable and impactful lines in this game, this is the one that really gave me pause for thought. Made me think back to all the RPGs and similar games I played. All the enemies I destroyed. All the numbers I increased. All the way back to the first RPG I ever played - a Final Fantasy game, I believe. Can't quite remember, it was quite a while ago. I didn't have a loving clue what I was doing and the story went completely over my head, I'm sure, but the concept of beating up enemies and making numbers go up, that still resonated with me. Didn't know what the numbers were for, but I knew that them going up was a good thing. I thought of the time I went through the Four Job Fiesta and didn't really know what I was doing because I didn't work out that Mystic Knight is a really loving good job to have, so I grinded the hell out of the game. Tedious work, and yet, the numbers going up and the constant progress towards my goal I was making... I was still having a lot of fun. And all those times, Chara was there with me. Thinking about it like that caused a total emotional disconnect from the game. So I destroyed the world of Undertale without a second thought. Here's to you, Chara. Can't wait for our reunion when I decide to get back to playing Persona 2, you must have gotten a kick out of when I grinded the casino for hours on end just to get some items for the entire party to make the numbers go up more.
