The other track on that split from The Ocean is worth listening to, if you're down for some progressive post-metal stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-lavJn5dII Could benefit from sparser vocals, I think, but it's not bad.

Can anyone recommend any good albums that strongly evoke the sea or have a maritime or nautical feel to them? I realize that that's fairly vague and I can't even articulate why anything would give off that feeling besides maybe some subconscious suggestion from the album or band name. I've been listening to The End of the Ocean's Pacific/Atlantic a lot and I kinda want more of that. Of Sinking Ships gets sorta close at times, but doesn't quite hit it just right.

Isis - Oceanic fits the bill fairly well. In Each Hand A Cutlass and The Pirate Ship Quintet are both very good in spite of their names. I can think of a few other post-rock bands with nautical names/themes but none that I would recommend off the top of my head.

Isis springs to mind immediately yes. Maybe Deafheaven too. Ocean Machine? Godspeed earlier dronier stuff. Helicon Part 2 by Mogwai.

Not really a post-rock band but the recently departed Giant Squid might appeal to you.

Late to the convo, but I've also gone alone to post rock concerts. None of my friends understand...and I'm perfectly ok with this.

From Fathoms by Gifts from Enola has an ocean theme. I think they've gone out of favour with the thread though.

There's one of those post metal/sludge/whocares vaguely Neurosis inspired bands called The Ocean, who unsurprisingly are ocean themed. Personally I find their music quite boring, but some people seem to be into them.

Actually, outside of their most recent album Pelagial (which is meant to be an experience akin to going deeper and deeper into the sea), The Ocean aren't really ocean-themed at all besides some song titles.

Hey man, google music is laying the hits on me lately, and that Pacific/Atlantic album is dope. These recommendations are all pretty drat great, thanks all! Finally, a soundtrack for when I look longingly into the horizon. Edit: Just to further contribute, Metavari's "Be One Of Us and Hear No Noise" is a pretty great album for the same purpose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCip8gBuxZs GrandpaPants fucked around with this message at 16:18 on Nov 4, 2015 |

Tortoise finally release the first new material in 6 years. Pretty stoked about this. "On October 6, 2015, it was announced that a new album, called The Catastrophist, would be released in early 2016 by Thrill Jockey.[10] Additionally, a single from the new album, entitled Gesceap, was released and it is available on YouTube. However, mail order pressings of the album are available through Thrill Jockey as of October 10, 2015.[11]" (Wikipedia, 5/11/2015)

This is a weird one to be posting. Anna von Hausswolff is essentially an art-pop singer and organist in the vein of Kate Bush, but the post-rock influence is enormous. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hepsvsx6H70

Here's an obscure little project I've been enjoying lately, Reverie Falls on All - Rebloom It's a Turkish duo, and I'd say the music is as much glitch (as in, the electronica genre) as it is post-rock, but I find myself enjoying the contrasting blend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3b4Mkii7_kk
