Toxxupation posted:

It's such a tragedy that people like different things, and don't all have the same taste as you. :allears:

Mad Men is a show that I respect as well-made, good production values, classically "good" acting, writing, and directing, but it bores me to tears. It may be that it resembles a piece of literature more than most TV shows, and I've always been more into Asimov than Hemingway, more into Poe than Dickens, etc. I don't necessarily think The Flash deserves to be that high, but in principle I have no objections to that.

We've still got The Leftovers, we've still got Mr. Robot, we've still got Rick and Morty, we've still got Daredevil, we've still got Fargo, we've still got Better Call Saul and we've still got Hannibal! Which show will be TVIV's #1 show of 2015? You'll find out soon enough but until then what do you think of the list so far? Brooklyn Nine-Nine dropped quite a ways. And what happened to the Flash? And look at the return to form for Justified! What do you reckon TV IV, are we getting it right?

...Okay, forgive me Rarity, but I spent too many hours working on this NOT to go ahead and post it today. But as a compromise, I'll only include the shows that you've posted so far, and leave the rest as question marks. (EDIT: since the results have been announced, I have updated the list to be complete.) To repeat:

Wanton Spoon posted:

I have a program that can reference lists of media (like the top ten lists in this thread) and cross-reference them in a way to figure out which of those media are associated with each other most frequently, then defines different categories of media based on those connections.
So here are those categories, as defined through processing the 66 top ten lists submitted in this thread. Hopefully this should help sort out the issue with comparing Mad Men to The Flash: now you don't have to, because they're on separate lists! Hopefully, the rest of the shows have been placed with their peers as well.

Now, this is kind of a beta run of my program. I'm used to using it for another purpose. I have no idea how accurate it is with this particular database, because I know almost nothing about any of these shows. Like I said, these categories were defined purely by cross-referencing show rankings in the top ten lists, no other data was used. Could anyone volunteer comments/critiques regarding whether these categories actually represent separate themes from each other, and what those themes might be?

Just for reference, the number of each category was arbitrarily determined by the program. It's just there to distinguish the categories from each other, it bears no real significance.

If a show's title is in italics, it means it was placed in two different categories.

I think Fahrenheit is better for weather
The CW is a collection of lunatics who continue to produce good shows even though nobody watches them.
I'm not really complaining, but you have to admit that they are weird. How does that network survive?

SUCK A DICK, DUMBSHITS!

Did they seriously completely reboot Leftovers with a totally new premise and everything? Season 1 was loving abject garbage but it's in the top 10 now?

Also I think I need to watch at least one episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

IN DEBUT, I SPEW!!!
I hate-watched The Leftovers season 1 and watched two episodes of The 100 season 1 and hated both about equally. Currently enjoying the second seasons of both thanks to the persistence of this forum of ding dongs. Both shows made sharp turns in the right direction.

No, it's a continuation, but both functionally and thematically it's a "new beginning" type of story. People have already written several walls of text in this thread about why it's so good, but the long and short of it is that it's so much more full of energy and just keeps ramping up the stakes and everyone puts in a loving killer performance.

Watch the pilot for sure, as it has two of the best musical numbers in it. I think the hour-long episodes drag in places, but the songs are the best, and watching Rachel Bloom perform is like seeing a star being born.

All the musical numbers are on Youtube as well, often in unrated versions that didn't air.

Man I didn't expect Leftovers to make the top 10. This is mad exciting! I thought I was going to go insane once it switched to 5 shows a post but the 'tension' is actually effective

Plz finish in the next couple hours though cause I have to go to sleep really early :(

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! It sure is hotting up in here, friends! We're breaking straight through to the top 10 and I've got to say, by my reckoning this is pound for pound the best top 10 we've ever had. Where will your favourite show end up? Can Rick and Morty take comedy to the top spot for the very first time? Can Mr. Robot pull of a shock upset and take number one in its very first appearance? Or how about Fargo or Better Call Saul? And just where are those three Marvel shows? There's only one way to find out folks, let's get this show on the road!

Yes, your #10 is Agents of Shield, holding on strong for a second consecutive year in the top 10. You praised it for its tight ensemble cast and stunning pace and such great qualities have been rewarded. But what show will place in #9?

We'll find out...

...soon.

Oh yeah, this is happening.

Let's hear it for Sense8, making it into the top 10 on its very first appearance! You acknowledged that this Wachowskis project had the potential to turn off viewers but you just couldn't ignore its amazing style or its emotional core. With another season in the works, chances are this isn't the last time we'll see Sense8 in our top 10.
