In case you haven't heard about this, Governor Snyder's appointed financial manager switched the city of Flint's water to the Flint River, with no changes in how the water was treated. It corroded the city's plumbing and poisoned the entire city with lead, including 7,000 children. And as a kicker, people were charged really high rates for that crap water.

Sure, Paul used that argument, but only as a piece of a much larger essay about the nature of sin and death. Well yeah, but that requires us to take a nuanced look at scripture and how to interpret it. Look, if we just dress up a horrible world view in biblical quotes and bald faced contempt for humanity then we'll get to bathe in those sweet, sweet Patreon funds. But seriously, if that previous comic about how much he smoked weed, drank and fought really was about him I'm not surprised to see that he was a lovely person with possibly an addictive personality who became a lovely person with a different addiction after finding Jesus. I've known several people like that, and suffice to say I don't interact with them anymore.

One of the standard theological responses to this is that God gave us all free will, that being good because you were created to be good and know nothing else makes your act of being good meaningless because you can't conceive of anything but being good. Unless you talk to a Calvinist, in which case all bets are off.

Here's a little weekend feature I'd like to look at, given how appropriate it is. Something I'd like to call Each week I'll look at cartoons from this month in 2008. This week we're looking at the January cartoons of Glenn McCoy and Mike Lester! Glenn McCoy 1 Obama was something of an upstart, although he had gained a lot of popularity via a speech he gave at the 2004 convention but you can see why some people think Sanders has a chance. 2 Hillary cried in a speech after she lost Iowa to Obama. The response is exactly how you'd imagine it. 3 While she lost Iowa, Hillary got her second wind in New Hampshire, starting an overly long democratic primary. 4 Republicans were incredibly unenthused with their options in 2008. 5 McCain was kinda sort moderate (not really) and, while they hated that, the Republicans would nonetheless try to play this up as a strength in the general. Obviously, they failed. Mike Lester 6 Eight years ago, cartoonists were just as eager to use Hillary's campaign to dust off moldy old Bill jokes as they are now. 7 Edwards was a distant third in the primary, which was a blessing for Democrats because later that August a giant scandal broke about his affair and love child. 8 Exactly how you'd imagine it. 9 Some people thought Hillary's crying helped her win New Hampshire; others thought it made her look week and Lester's take shouldn't be surprising. 10 Rev. Wright would bring up Obama's campaign and race later that March, but Lester decided to be racist as soon as possible. Next Week: Michael Ramirez and Eric Allie! Also a new header for this feature because jesus.

This is true in a sense, but it's more of a reference to the way Snyder ran his campaign when he was first elected. He ran on the platform of being a successful businessmen, he was the chairmen of Gateway, and that he could fix Michigan's financial woes. As you can see, it might not be the best idea to run a government like a business. There have been recall petitions for Snyder that have been rejected partly for the reason that "the offenses alleged in the petition didn't happen in the governor's current term ". In other words, that since he chose the emergency city managers for Flint that made these really bad water choices during his first term, they shouldn't have an impact in having him recalled from his second.
