Normally "people can't stop loving with the laser cutter & I keep fixing it and it's missing parts" ends some different way than "this is an opportunity to buy a new one and we'll have a ready set of spare parts!" Whatever works, I guess also you have like one person who ever maintains and keeps fixing a laser cutter but suddenly eveyone's an expert with a recommendation when he or she brings up getting a new one. the whole thing is hackerspace dot txt as gently caress

our laser cutter has been broken for months because the idiot CTO (me) put a Windows 10 preview on the computer that drives it and it expired then I got ms to donate us a real license and it refuses to install, and I lost patience because computers suck our license allows us to also install 7 and 8.1 and 8.1 installed fine so whatever when I let someone else try. thanks microsoft

Whatever works, I guess I spent a morning arguing with people over hangouts about how to next proceed with fixing some issues with the CNC router since I just spent my Sunday and gas money bringing the truck in to move over a new spoil board. we had a material clearing bit that was too large, so I offered to just buy a $20 collett that fit it. but noone wanted me to do that because the router was apparently "old and was going to be replaced any day now". but then noone could decide on what to replace it with even though I spent the effort into researching the most reasonable 1 or two routers, as well as material clearing bits with the right shank size. Then some dumb rear end in a top hat came in in the middle of the night with his lovely gcode and crashed the heads thrice and burnt out a driver. Also we had our first and second crazy person stories happen in december but I'll post those later. crazy person 1: lady who ran upcycling events at the space wanted to open up an "earth store" where you exchange "earth credit" for used goods. for some reason we let her get a licensed space in the place, even though you can't actually have a storefront in a makerspace with a locked door 6 days a week. She promptly filled it with a quarter of a Goodwill worth of smelly clothes and lightbulbs filled with scented oils, accused me of stealing her lovely camera, and then "hired" a homeless person off the street with promises of having 24/7 access, and left him standing in the middle of her space for the afternoon. we kicked her out within 2 days of her moving in. it took her a month to move her stuff out (I almost called the salvation army to come pick up her stuff) all the while begging, demanding a trial by her peers, then by the cofounders, then threatening to talk to the landlord about us. She now is trying to reestablish at the Plantory, a sort of non profit incubator with desk rentals thats even less suited for her dream. I pray to whomever is currently holding her garbage. crazy person 2: dude I thought was actually a member, since he showed up to the member only meeting and asked me to put him in the google hangout. hes working on a Tim Tyler style crazy keyboard, also a gaming chair??? (hes left it in the space since). One day he climbed over a wall in the adjacent hallway and cleaned the bathroom and asked our founder if he could trade janitorial work for a membership. I've not seen him since. also that guy with the kickstarter for the leaning standing desk thing is a member, but hes normal.

i didnt think the voltage would matter in a fuse if the difference is between 250 and 32. the current is the important bit. and yet i see fuses with voltage ratings on so who knows what the gently caress.

Thanks Ants posted:i didnt think the voltage would matter in a fuse if the difference is between 250 and 32. the current is the important bit. the voltage rating is more for what happens after the fuse blows. a 32v blown fuse could be arcing with 250v and be as good as not having any fuse at all. there is also the speed factor that has been mentioned here. you want to get the same type or a faster type when replacing fuses
