thats the table. notic that people are invited to plug stuff in because ???

it connects to the mains via a iec 60320 c13 socket, which is fused

that mates with a c14 plug and a nema 5-15 that does the actual mains connection (this is literally the ubiquitous computer/monitor power cable)

looks like the c14/5-15 cable melted, which isn't really all that good, but id need to know more on the cable material and wire gauge

it in turn caused physical damage to the c13 plug and fuse which is now repaired in the stupidest way possible

but none of this is actual code violations, just poo poo that ul wouldn't sign off on, but that isn't anything new

our laser cutter has been broken for months because the idiot CTO (me) put a Windows 10 preview on the computer that drives it and it expired

then I got ms to donate us a real license and it refuses to install, and I lost patience because computers suck

our license allows us to also install 7 and 8.1 and 8.1 installed fine so whatever when I let someone else try. thanks microsoft :downs:

I spent a morning arguing with people over hangouts about how to next proceed with fixing some issues with the CNC router since I just spent my Sunday and gas money bringing the truck in to move over a new spoil board. we had a material clearing bit that was too large, so I offered to just buy a $20 collett that fit it. but noone wanted me to do that because the router was apparently "old and was going to be replaced any day now". but then noone could decide on what to replace it with even though I spent the effort into researching the most reasonable 1 or two routers, as well as material clearing bits with the right shank size.

Then some dumb rear end in a top hat came in in the middle of the night with his lovely gcode and crashed the heads thrice and burnt out a driver.

Also we had our first and second crazy person stories happen in december but I'll post those later. We're moving this month and the founder was gifted free lawyer time from the previous landlord in order to deal with the current one.

The building got bought from the previous owner by a major real estate investors in lexington and they have spent the past six months figuring out ways to violate the lease agreement and make us leave (and are apparently just terrible human beings to be around according to anyone else who finds out they currently own the building). This included blocking access to the rollup door, much of the parking, and forcing us to rewire the entire space for our power needs (they stuck their catering company in the adjacent room and told us to get off the circuit), and also we have no heat atm. Barry, the previous owner, found out, and poo poo his pants.

Hey sorry I understand [that electricity is dangerous] but I determined that [amateurishly rewiring a high-voltage piece of equipment with a fuse that didn't fit] was a do-ocratically excellent thing to do at the time

It is perfectly excellent, just make sure to fix with the right fuse to not verschlimmbessern it

I'm going to recommend that people stop describing do-ocracy as meaning that you should "just do" a thing without asking permission. My observation is that this idea is harmful.

Do-ocracy is a process in which people decide to do things on their own, no permission necessary. Kyle did all the right things.

crazy person 1: lady who ran upcycling events at the space wanted to open up an "earth store" where you exchange "earth credit" for used goods. for some reason we let her get a licensed space in the place, even though you can't actually have a storefront in a makerspace with a locked door 6 days a week. She promptly filled it with a quarter of a Goodwill worth of smelly clothes and lightbulbs filled with scented oils, accused me of stealing her lovely camera, and then "hired" a homeless person off the street with promises of having 24/7 access, and left him standing in the middle of her space for the afternoon. we kicked her out within 2 days of her moving in. it took her a month to move her stuff out (I almost called the salvation army to come pick up her stuff) all the while begging, demanding a trial by her peers, then by the cofounders, then threatening to talk to the landlord about us. She now is trying to reestablish at the Plantory, a sort of non profit incubator with desk rentals thats even less suited for her dream. I pray to whomever is currently holding her garbage.

crazy person 2: dude I thought was actually a member, since he showed up to the member only meeting and asked me to put him in the google hangout. hes working on a Tim Tyler style crazy keyboard, also a gaming chair??? (hes left it in the space since). One day he climbed over a wall in the adjacent hallway and cleaned the bathroom and asked our founder if he could trade janitorial work for a membership. I've not seen him since.

the voltage rating is more for what happens after the fuse blows. a 32v blown fuse could be arcing with 250v and be as good as not having any fuse at all. there is also the speed factor that has been mentioned here. you want to get the same type or a faster type when replacing fuses

he was going from DC to AC which is generally "safer" in the sense that an AC fuse might rely on a zerocross and just short DC forever
