All trolling and drama aside, it was a cool place where they were actually teaching classes and doing cool things and they hooked me up with some A+ accomadations at a rad as gently caress hostel when I was in town. I met some really interesting people, including an Italian hacker-punk who was couchsurfing in SF and had pirate/squatter/hacker LAN parties in castle cellars in the early 90s so...

In 2010, more than $11 billion was generated in the United States from severance taxes alone. Between 10.5 percent and 74.3 percent of total state tax revenue came from severance taxes in at least six states—Alaska, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Wyoming.2 Severance taxes help insure that costs associated with resource extraction—such as road construction and maintenance, and environmental protection—are paid by the producers, helping to alleviate potential impacts on state and local taxpayers. States distribute revenues in various ways, but typically, most of the collected taxes are deposited into the general fund.
